Hi all, I am riding a Kymco Grandink 250cc. Recently I have the experience of hearing pop sounds from exhaust, I think, whenever I decelerate till almost complete stop. When I turn my throttle to move off, the RPM will drop a bit before it accelerates normally. And since yesterday while riding in the rain, I am feeling this jerky acceleration. The bike loses power then accelerates for a few times before moving normally again. It is not very frequent though. Could this be the carburetor problem? If I want to change a caburetor, roughly how much does one cost? I asked my mechanic, he told me that it costs about $500 - $600. Not sure if it is real though. I have emailed the Kymco sales, no reply yet though.

Any experts, please advise me on my problems. Thanks a big lot.

Dont straight change carb. Get a reliable mech. granddink is not old. maybe 4 , 5 yrs. i am sure its hasnt gone 50k km. then check the filter, exhaust, clean etc. get a good mech.

I used to have a similar issue on my Phantom TA 200. Tried many things like changing the air filter, air suction etc. In the end took it back to the agent, they had a spare carb in the shop, as soon as they fitted it, the bike felt like a new bike. All problems gone. I was also advised that my previous mech had damaged the carb while trying to clean it.

Suggest, you take it back to the agent, Motorsports, to take a look. Servicing a carb requires skill and not every mechanic can do it. After my last experience with the Phantom, I will not let any mechanic service the carb.

Hi Guys,

Thanks a lot for the reply. My granddink has mileage of around 70K. I guess I will have to bring my bike to the Kymco workshop to check for everything related.

A new thing experienced yesterday while riding in the rain again. While moving at low speed, the engine just died off and I had to turn the key off and on again to be able to start the engine.

Sigh...
