All the oils u list are meant for cars, usually too slippery for ur wet clutch. There could be chance that one of them could work but nt worth the risk. Just stick to the reputable 4T oils. Make sure there is a JASO-MA certification.

Actually read online that any oils works, be it for diesel engine or whatnot.

However, if ever get a non bike specific oil, just remember to avoid those with energy conversion labels.

Just wondering anyone else does this locally

Either you go for the most top end fully synthetic product cos it's just 1 liter bottle for your spark or you can go for any 20w50 mineral oil cos it's a fuss free engine. Hahaha.

Noted. :)

Yeah general idea is 40wt and above are ok, but sometimes they contain high amounts of moly that can cause clutch to slip. Diesel oil however are not energy conserving, so usually they are ok for bike use, but they are more on the thicker side (e.g 40wt has quite a broad range)

Thanks, thinking of buying over from Amazon if free shipping qualifies.

As Pollution Control Department emailed me that individual use motor oils not under controlled items.

Never tried before though.

Well, I have gone as far as entering shipping details and such, so far it seems like Amazon can ship but it takes like a month or so. My guess is that it may be going via surface, e.g. ship. At the start of July, I was interested in placing an order, but delivery date was late Aug.

Might be worth a shot, considering plenty of interesting things which cannot be found locally.

Motorex is good stuff, pricey too at times. The 10w60 stuff are the recommended oil for some of ktm thumpers. Have a friend who buys in carton quantities and gets it slightly cheaper.

Actually for old bikes, any semi syn at least 10W50 or 15W50 will do but nowadays, semi syn is selling at least $15 a bottle at bike shop. Quite Ex . Motorex is selling at $20 a bottle which is same price as Maxima or Synergy.

I didnt really bother much about the price, i just thinking of which oil really suits, but you sa put a semi syn in? definitely sure more easier spoil! or change oil earlier! My next oil change i am thinking of putting motorex, but motorex is 10w-60w, i think. In fact i even thought of trying to put motul 300v

Inline-4 engines dont rly like too thick oils. Stick to max of 50wt. 60 will make ur bike really sluggish.

But with 60, wont it protect inside more.?? even thou its thick.

U can try Motorex 10W50 full syn if u want. W60, too heavy for the engine , u will find throttle heavy. U will find pickup veri slow. Dun waste money on Motul. Too ex in my opinion.

An old bike, usually have problem with cold starts.

An inline four dont favour heavy oils like naim said.

Even on my v-twin water cooled, i stick with 40wt oil after trial and errors.

50wt oils makes it sluggish.

I'm 90% sure your manual would reccomend w40 oils too.

The oil basically performs like a 60wt oil at operating temperature which is heavy for my liking.

But good for single cylinders.

I used bardahl before and i was relieved when my oil was changed.

From your brand choices, i think you dont diy change.

So may i suggest,

Off the shelves, for 20+/- a litre, you can try mobil 1, chex and maxima extra.

Naim, i just got rimula r3x 15w40 yet to change though.

Any reccomendations or suggestions in venturing to hdeo.

Nothing too ex and easy to get off the shelves.

not necessarily. also must keep in mind that the engine is designed with the thinner oils in mind. the thicker oils will have trouble flowing smoothly around the engine and through the oil channels, which can cause starvation as the oil is not flowing quickly enough. a thinner oil also absorbs and disperses heat more easily.

eh u nv use HDEO before ah? rimula i nv tried. only tried delvac. these HDEOs although its rated at 40wt, its on the thicker side, almost 50wt. so not ideal for my watercooled scooter. and since i do short commutes nowadays, the thicker 15wt startup viscosity is too thick and warms up slow. my FC therefore increased. but tried once ride up to Genting, it was really smooth at high speeds, because of the thicker viscosity. and im sure its also very shear stable.

wa i think iusing bardhal 10-50 now. I already find my pickup abit slow, between 2krpm - 5krpm, motul is expensive, but isit good? it has to be good. Or maybe its good, but not suitable for my engine. need more opinion on what oil for older bikes...

Chex9000 you mean? Yar i saw it some where, but dont know if its good.. looks abit, cheap. Maxima and mobil i can try to look around. Thanks for advice. I am starting to think that, old engine should use old "good" oil. My cbr400 is not single cylinder right? i know drz is single cylinder. Sorry abit newbie, need to give me example then i understand lol.

Sorry i dont know what is HDEO or rimula or delvac! never heard before! where can i find? Visit most bike shop like nothing special leh...

I guess i have to change my current engine oil soon.

Ur cbr400 has a 4-cylinder engine. Just stick to the better brands like motul or maxima and preferably 40wt spec. Should be best compromise between protection and performance.

HDEO = heavy duty engine oil. Its meant for heavy vehicles. Its good enough for huge diesel engines w/ turbos, should be gd enough for our small engines. Cant find at bike shop, only at petrol kiosks.

More for DIYer, because i doubt bikeshop mechanic will chg for u. Confirm will swear and curse at u for using lorry oil. More info, u can scroll back to the earlier pages. Lots more discussion on this was done.

If you indeed wish to try maxima, motul 300v full synthetic ester stuff, your bike might be consuming engine oil and you might need to top up every now and then. Bet your CBR is old and thus with the worn out rings and all, won't get good seal. Just so you know.

I used to use chex9000 full syn and castrol power 1 semi syn on my previous S4, it was good for its price.

Xue ling: let me know how the ipone performed. I know it's ester based but for its price, was thinking if I'm better off with power 1 racing or maxima extra

thank you naim yes... never used. will update back but wont be soon. :)

15w was my concern because 5w is fantastic for cold starts and less warm up periods.

Oh yes.. do not use schnell 5w40 sold at giant for your motorcycle.

Gave me lots of clutch slips.
