Hi all I am doing a study on theft of motorcycle in singapore. Particularly with Yamaha RXZ.

Yamaha RXZ is one of the highest model reported being stolen in Singapore.

As such I would like to seek advice from fellow bikers here with regards to the following questions.

1) What is the reason why this particular model is a favourite with thief?

2) What are the precautions that can better secure this model from being stolen? What kind of locks is recommended?

Thank you.

I believed old bikes are easy targets.

e.g, 9 years ago when I was working at Pizza Hut, the RX-K's ignition can be turned on by finger nails :faint:

Rxz parts are stolen for spare parts.

Fairings are stolen by young boys on bicycle who dress their bicycle up with RXZ fairings.

I doubt kids at the age of 14 buys the fairing and brings them home to use.

Even if you chain it up, I can carry it up with a buddy.

It is right. the ignition is easy to switch on with items.

Best way to prevent theft is to lock it(any method) and cover it up.

i think in singapore most of the theft is petty theft or opportunity theft mainly for joy ride or hydher mentioned for the parts.

locking the handle bar or even a cheap globe brand padlocks could prevent most motorcycle theft in singapore.

heard of the story where two friends encounter a bear while hiking? when one of the chap dropped his bag, change into running gears and started doing warm-up, his friend told him not to be silly as he can't out run a bear. the chap just reply he dosn't have to out-run the bear. he just have to out-run his friend...

you just have to make it difficult enough for the thief to go for the bike next to yours:cheeky: RXZ is a damn common bike.

I believe a simple cover will protect the bike a lot.
