Just wondering y do all these big heavy n SLOW moving vehicles like to occupy the extreme lane? Does the TP have any idea how it will cause unnecessary accident n jams if they were to break down o lose control of their vehicle???

they're not supposed to be there, and neither does tp allow them to be there. i see a few times before, in front of me all the big and small trucks/buses/lorries all of a sudden form 2nd lane at the same time try to squeeze back to 3rd lane, no space oso die-die try to squeeze. i see this happening only true enough 2 seconds later tp bike or highway patrol car go past me.

i oso see before tp tell these trucks to move to 3rd lane or even tell them pull over.

in short, its not tp at fault, its the drivers bochap.

Wanna see such Drivers? Go AYE... You will see alot of THESE Drivers... Horn them they stare at you like they have the right to travel on the right lane... Got once i HORN this Truck driver.. After overtaking him, He High Beam me and HORN me also... WTF!!!

then i hope the Tp can immediately book them without listening their explanation. Let them learn their lesson once n for all.....make them go refresher course....demerit them is the best too....imagine them riding on 2-lane n they occupy the right lane. wat if their vehicle break down, wil cause a massive jam man....

we can't really blame them oso..

most of these truck drivers earn by the no of trip they send.. so, if they send more, they get more pay, send less get less pay.. for those who transport earth, when rain they cannot even earn a single cent...

as we all know, these drivers are usually in their 40+ which has children to provide like you and me, be it whether u r in sec sch, poly/jc/ite or uni education...

because of their pay structure (and sometimes their cranky boss), they juz have to send faster n therefore driver faster to earn more, provide us with a more comfortable life, or juz simply prepare for raining days...

someone gave this kinda argument before for taxi driver too, but i refuse to accept that i 'cannot blame them'. they slow down, they earn less, they speed and bang bikers, the biker dies. why should they have a right to endanger someone's life for their living?

u r right that they shoudn't speed in order to earn more money... but first of all, we muz look at the factors that contributing them to speed...

1. Like i said, their pay structure.. if they r paid $2000 per mth without commission, they would take their time to drive and maybe seize any opportunity to eat snake...

2. Their boss. When the boss r urgent for his workers to transport all earth to another place, that place pressure on da workers... We can simply say, hey brainless boss, why dun u juz buy more trucks and hire more workers? Will the boss ever listen in da first place?

So in conclusion, who do we blame? da boss of da truck drivers? wait the boss say, the contractor wan by tml remove 10 toones of earth... den the contractor say, my boss say he wan complete by tml so dat he can receive HDB's money n pay my salary... den the contractor boss got money liao, can buy one new bike for his son coz he keep asking for one...

so, now blame who? the son who is a rider like u and i?

First of all, i want to say that i DO NOT support them in speeding nor i support "dun blame them" attitute... the reason why i said all these is because when something happens, one tends to blame others tham blame himself...

If everyone can be understanding towards other road users, eg:

Boss understand the safety of his drivers, urged him not to speed... den in turn,

Drivers understand the need to be driving at 60km/h and stay in extreme left lane

Everyone understads that lane 1 is for emergency and overtaking, not road hogging...

IF everyone understands each and every of the road user, do we have this problem in da first place?

If passenger understands that da taxi driver will face demerit points if he speed, u tink will he tell the uncle to do so even if da passenger is late or whatsoever?

I can only partially agreeded tat they earned base on per trip. More trips more $, but wat if they REALLY got into an accident....write statment at police station, pay fine n demerit. But wat if the accidents involve deaths? They have to go attend court hearings, depend on the judge verdict, they may even penalise til revoke licence for a few years. Do u think worth it or not????

Watever it is, stil play safety at the 1st place is the best solution. Dun wait til fingers are burnt, then say:"i go n c the doctor now." It wil b late liaoz.....

the whole reason why we have laws and regulations is because ppl don't understand or care about other people. sure, i can sit here and listen to ur explanations about the need to understand the truck drivers, but if they're not gonna understand us, nothing is gonna get solved. hence the need to enforce.

based on ur views, then perhaps we should extend penalties to the bosses in addition to the drivers, like they do wif the cab companies. i think this would be a good idea.

but the notion about the need for understanding on everyone's part is idealistic, not realistic.

i agree to ur part that if penalties r extended to their bosses as well, trucks on the extreme right lane will be greatly reduced.. i believe if we want to prevent trucks on lane 1, we should start from here...

when/where do u always see that happen? wad if they're trying to make a right turn? do u understand that being heavier n bigger in size means they have to keep right earlier in order to make a right turn in an approaching junction, especially in hours of heavy traffic? do u noe that they haf bigger and more blind spots?

oh no... looks like bikers are making enemies with everything on the road

we haf threads cursing taxis, women drivers, traffic police and now lorry and truck drivers. wats next? tink we can see some one cursing ambulances and QX soon.

BTW do take a look at other forums, others are cursing bikers even more aggressively

Posted

actually out there on the road we can see both good & bad road users... when i am on my small bike i always see bikers on bigger capacity bikes switching lanes without signalling, speed past smaller bikes in the same lane... same goes for taxis, trucks/lorries, cars... there are just as many bad bikers as there are bad drivers...

who are we to complain about other bad road users when there are bikers who also abuse the ability and power of their bikes?

i seriously think u guys dun realli understand the other road user ..

i myself is a lorri driver and i can tell u this .. if u expect all the lorri to maintain at 60km/h and keeping to lane 3 .. u can forget abt goin onto expressway cause u would not be able to sqeeze in from the filter lane and getting onto the expressway..

and also shld lorri maintain at 60km/h , think we are goin to c more jams ard ...

lorris have lots of blind spot and seriously , sometimes we cant even c the bike near us .. and they zoom past the lorry .. if we bang them who is to blame ??

lorry for being big ?? or riders for coming close to the lorry ??

well , its a gif and take situation ... juz approaching lorry approach wif care ba .

i'd like to ask: if all these trucks always maintain a distance of about 2 car lengths from the front truck, would'n it mean there wouldn be such a thing as 'cannot squeeze in from filter lane'?

and also shld lorri maintain at 60km/h , think we are goin to c more jams ard ...

peak period traffic jams cannot be avoided, and obviously no one group of road users can be blamed as the cause of peak period jam. but you are implying here that off-peak, if trucks go at 60kmh, we'll end up with traffic jams the whole day. my apologies, but i find this very difficult to believe.

on the expressway, slower vehicles are supposed to keep left precisely so that faster vehicles can go past and a 'whole day traffic jam' can be avoided. isn this the whole point of the 'slower vehicles keep left' idea?

off the expressway, its even worse. you are accusing bikers of not understanding the truck drivers, but do you understand us then? off expressway, where the lanes are not as wide, have you ever felt what its like to be on a bike and suddenly a 5 tonne truck go past right beside you at 90kmh?

lorris have lots of blind spot and seriously , sometimes we cant even c the bike near us .. and they zoom past the lorry .. if we bang them who is to blame ??

lorry for being big ?? or riders for coming close to the lorry ??

first of all, as a biker, i fully agree that bikers must make themselves as visible as possible to other road users. personally, i always try to ride at the center of the lane rather than hide in blind spots of cars, much less trucks. any biker who does not bother trying to be visible and rather squeeze, i agree he's in the wrong.

so if you ask me if lorry bang them them who is to blame, obviously i'll say whoever is in the wrong. i dont ride close to lorries, i think its stupid, but i'll be fair and admit some riders do that because they're trying to get past all the traffic. this question is far too shallow without examining individual circumstances.

well , its a gif and take situation ... juz approaching lorry approach wif care ba .

cheers ..

my stand on the issue of road use has always been that everyone should do their part, be it taxis or rucks or riders. i think that truckers maintaining no more that 70kmh and keeping left is their part in the responsibility. as a trucker, do you agree that this is so, or are you saying that truckers should not have such prohibitions?

http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/280x200q90/689/siggyyy.jpghttp://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/280x200q90/203/hsmj.jpg

for this case, i think that it's also the lorry driver's responsibility to check his blindspots whenever he needs to change lane/turn left/turn/right/u-turn.

i've also noticed that a lot of lorry drivers still arent wearing their seat belts and EVEN phone & drive on the move, thus losing their focus on the road and sometimes will drift out of their lane causing danger to other road users.

As to those on the extreme right lane, i feel that it is really very inconsiderate of these drivers to hog the overtaking lane. Not only trucks/buses/lorries but also cars and bikes too who travel on the overtaking lane at 70kmph as if they're driving on their own road. The extreme right lane is for emergency vehicles and overtaking only. We have learnt this during our theory lesson before getting our licences.

Last but not least i hope BuZhiDe dun take offence at wad i say. This is juz what i feel as a Driver & Rider. I drive and ride too.

Have anybody ever seen TP in the morning on the expressway?

If you ever see one, can immediately go and buy any 4 number, sure strike

Wah! I also didn't see the original thread was created in 2004, just reply, sorry

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Bro, nvm lah old thread new replies.

One of my ex-colleagues from a divisional traffic patrol unit once told me this. He used to give chance to those tipper truck and prime mover drivers who he caught speeding, driving carelessly (not recklessly) until one day he saw an accident scene between one such big vehicle and a family sedan. The family all dead, the truck driver no injury. From that day on he always summon these &^%^& drivers no matter what excuse they give, even if they say they have a paraplegic mother and father to take care and 8 children to feed...

Hey, you need more money go sell your backside or something. Don't endanger the lives of other road users by driving fast in your invincible large truck.
