lane splitting will kenah?? I thought it is allowed?

6 points is a lot.

Lane splitting is a grey area. It's technically not allowed, but noone will penalize you for it UNTIL you get into an accident. Only when that happens will the TPs fault you for lanesplitting.

So I didn't pass my 2nd Prac 3 (fig 8 timing exceeded by 1 sec), but I just wanted to say that timewalker84's crank "cheat code" worked like a charm. The instructor also gave me the same tip today, except he said to let go the clutch. So throttle, up 2nd gear, release clutch but DON'T throttle. Roll through until the last third of the course, then gently throttle through. Take that, stupid right angles.

Glad it was of some help to you ;) You'll get faster and more confident on the figure 8 before too long.

Then you'll clear lesson 3 and gain a whole new set of headaches when the time comes for you to face the plank. Got more cheat codes for you when you get there!

correction. no need to get into accident. just need a stupid cab driver to signal to change lane at the last minute....

Sigh my circuit revision is weird. Chiong plank and my figure 8 become lousy. Chiong figure 8 my plank becone lousy.....

Dun sweat it bro. Happens to all of us. A very common problem when learning. Focus on one, the others cock up.

Your objective is to get to a stage where you don't have any one station which is massively problematic - then you move on to test circuit training, to condition yourself to be able to do them all smoothly in the TP test order.

Cleared prac 3 by some miracle. My fig 8 timing is really inconsistent. But every time I try to speed up it's hello, kerb. Need. More. Practice. Guess will get to do lots of that during circuit revision. I hate that it's always so crowded that everyone has to wait 10 min just to use the course for 10 secs. Cdc should build more courses. Such bottlenecks so waste time. Sorry just ranting.

Anyway, now it's time to Walk the Plank!

how are you throttling in fig 8? open close open close? you should throttle up and maintain a constant throttle and control speed with brakes and make sure your are pushing down on the handlebars in the direction of your turns to get the bike to lean

Fig 8 is all abt technique. Different people do it differently. I've tried different methods, still think that this is the best:

Enter the fig 8, kick up gear 2 and maintain throttle. If you think your are going too fast, gently tap the rear break, but do not lock the breaks. I would avoid using front breaks in this situation.

And of cause, your eye lining. . Body posture just use what they teach you, and not use those motor gp style lean in/out..

Stick to the basic.

@rijac @shemish I forgot all about the brakes. And also not getting the right "feel" of handling the bike. I try to lean my bike and totally feel like I'm about to fall over. Then so many things to remember - throttle, gear up, off signal, eye line, steer, brake... Ugh. Must keep doing until it becomes second nature!

I see the instructor demo, looks so effortless. Bank until crash bar touch the ground. With pillion also can. One hand on handlebar also can. With pillion and one hand... Why...

Once you get the technique right, you'll find it easy too:) when you're in the fig 8, dont let the fear of falling overcome you. must have the confidence. Riding bike with the mentality of falling have a higher chance of falling. Just keep practicing:)

Hi guys, its me again. The one who just sucks at riding bikes.

To know more about my atrocious riding skills, please search all posts made by me lol.

Anyway today I finally pass my TP. Got 6 points.

However this is my 4th TP attempt so its still quite embarrassing for me even though I passed.

Thanks to everyone here who helped me! And if I can do it I think you can too. Even someone like me who spent $1,600 on Class 2B lessons can pass.

And yes, I spent $1,600 on Class 2B. Heart pain.

As a (struggling) learner I'm truly appreciative of all the support and kind encouragement. Very motivating and heartwarming. So much love for this thread and the awesome people who post in it. *hugs*

Doesn't matter bro, now that you passed, it's over...

I went to JB for petrol and cigs last week and bumped into an instructor from CDC there, he told me he seen 9th attempt before, so you're not the worst.

When you start to ride outside, it's when you start to learn actually, gaining first hand experience from near accidents or maybe even accidents.

Still, congratulations on passing class 2B, be safe and ride safe.

I tend to over steer and hitting the inner kerb instead. Not sure if in turning my bars too much or improper leaning.

Any tips for slalom? Do you guys prefer to on off throttle or drag the rear brakes?

Posted

There Shld be very little turning. You steer by pushing down on the handlebar in the direction you want to go an the bike will counter steer and lean

In fig 8, no need to turn the handlebars much. I've learnt that a bike is basically like a machine with a mind, and you as a rider just LEAD where it is going. Idk if i put it the right way, but once u passed and have an own bike, u will understand.

Back to fig 8, simply just look far into the course that you WANT TO GO(not where you DON'T WANT TO HIT), naturally the bike and your body will go thru the course.

Braking wise, only rear brakes used. YBR is using drum brakes if i rmmbered correctly, so not much braking power on the rear to make u skid, but locking it all the way + wet road = err... Duh? SKID. So u can actually hold the rear brake, releasing and reapplying (adjusting) what is needed to complete the fig 8 course.

Do not be reckless! Instead, try to be smooth as possible. Learn the parts where you can go slightly faster in the course(1 of the instructors taught me that i could kill some milliseconds off by releasing (and speed up) in between the fig 8.

Like 8 see the 2 circles forming the 8 right? the transition from the 1st circle to 2nd circle is where i used that technique of 'speeding up'.

For slalom, if i rmmbered correctly, i kinda rolled my throttle. meaning i do not ON and OFF, but slightly roll on and off whenever needed. Never OFF ur throttle and turn back ON, cuz that will definitely upset the traction, or in other words, reduce ur performance luh. i played the rear brakes too on the slalom, kinda just a slight bit and dragging it all the way.

Don't teach them countersteering lah rijac. Later CDC become race track hehe.

I doubt they understand the concept of countersteering, and scared they will interpret it wrongly (eg. not pushing down but turning the handlebar to the desired direction).
