New Rider - Ducati Monster 400

Hi all,

 

I recently bought my very first bike, a Ducati Monster 400 from one of the members here.

 

I got my 2A licence about 3 years back but was not really keen in getting one till last month.

 

As I am pretty new to this whole 'owning a bike' thing, I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what are some things I can do to my bike.

 

Like the necessities, accessories and miscelleanous stuff to add on as well as some DOs and DONTs to my bike.

Don't buy an expensive bike like a Ducati Monster as your first bike, because you are more likely to drop it, hit it, scratch it and parts don't come cheap.

 

On a more serious note - find other owners of the bike through the forum, there must be more, let them recommend a mechanic they trust, pay him a vist and be friendly - because you bought a Ducati you will need a good mechanic as a friend.

 

Get used to the most basic maintenance of the bike - checking tire pressure and adjusting the chain - everything else you can leave it to your new trusted mechanic friend.

 

Other than that the usual - be safe, get a good full face helmet and some gloves at a minimum. The rest depends a lot on your use of the bike. Do you commute to work or is it more of a hobby on the off days?

If you are willing to go hands on your bike, then you'll be able to do quite a number of stuffs yourself. The M400 is actually pretty easy to DIY, things such as spark plugs, engine oil and others can be done pretty easily.

 

Granted that you will most probably go to a mechanic for the tougher servicing, but the basic stuffs are pretty easy to do. Others in the group, will definitely introduce to you some of their trusted workshops, especially Minervra which specializes in Ducatis.

 

Ducati parts are definitely pricier but the maintenance are actually okay. The looks, brand and sound factors plays a part in your wants too.

 

Go for armoured jackets as well as boots, definitely no slippers and shorts! It is of paramount importance to be safe.

Ride within your limits, well you won't learn much about yourself and the bike but it won't get scratched either

I viewed some monster 400s all are very expensive compared to super fours. How much a 2003 monster worth? COE until 2023
