just a head up for those with broken IU's cover especially those with the 1st generation slim IU which have a rather thin plastic hinges. the newer one have a improved plastic cover.

one of the hinge and the clip to lock the cover is broken. after doing a search here following some bro's experience, i head down to Sin Ming VICOM to replace the cover.

have a bit of problem understanding the accent of the technician. initially he was saying i needed some letter from LTA for the replacement.

to cut the long story short, in the end he did a quick check on my IU and told me he is able to replace the whole IU for free as they no longer change the cover alone due to the plastic catch will break easily. Provided i change the mounting bracket as well since without the rubber damper, it will void the warranty. it cost $13 to replace the mounting bracket. i think it worth it as it is made of stainless steel compare to the one i had from bike shop which is already rusted.

a few points from the excellent and friendly technician:

1) the mounting bracket must have rubber damper or the warranty will consider void.

2) Warranty of the IU is still 5 years instead of the reported 3 years and with the new IU, the warranty start from day 1 again:thumb:

3) you can have a replacement IU for the damage plastic cover as long as it is still attached to the IU. if the plastic cover is missing, cracked or broken off, you might not be able to get a replacement unless authorized by LTA and hence he is asking me to get the letter in the beginning. in another words, it must be due to wear and tear but not damage due to misuse.

4) if you need to replace the mounting bracket, it cost $13 which is cheaper and better then you can get from most bike shop. but do call your nearest VICOM to check that they have the bracket as he mentioned that Yishun VICOM doesn't carry it.

just to share some experiences and don't blame me if the information is not accurate. i am just sharing from what i was being told.

Thanks for the update!

About time they change the crap design!

Went through some bullsh*t when I tried to change the plastic cover some time back at one of the service centre. Hope that with this re-design, IU wont suffer the seriously lame defect.
