Something to share with the FZ1S owners and wannabe owners:

Should you install frame sliders (motovation brand in my case) onto your bike and is on the top engine bolt hole, request to your mechanic to use the washer from the original bolt and place on the slider bung. that way the slider will not be "pressing" against the frame when tightening. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, request them to use a torque wrench at 4.5m.kg (33ft.lb) setting and use locktite on the bolt threads. This way, your frame sliders are tightened to your frame at the recommended torque, not over-tightened.

Read from elsewhere that over-tightening or under-tightening could be one of the causes for FZ1S frame breakage. Dunno whether is it true but I'm not taking any chances.

If it's not true at all, then please ignore this post :)

Thanks.

I already gotten the headlight protectors, compliments from the bike shop as well :)

And no, given my shallow pocket, I will rather spend my moolah on practical accessories.

Share share leh. What could be more practical than the boxes and screen? :D

Damned... in this case, there're only a few mechs who I know will actually respect the request to use the torque wrench. Give it to one of those old-school ah beng mechanics, and the mofo will simply snort and you and ignore you entirely and proceed to tighten the thing till the washers bend in....

Haha... It's not me. I've the other half to consider.

Must test ride and test handling and comfort first. Until she finally finds the time to test sit and ride one, then can green light.

If you'd ask me what bike I'd choose, it would have been the 07/08 R1 already. ;)

As it is, the FZ1 is a compromise. So as with all compromises, everything has to be factored in. Especially how the rider will fit and feel on the bike.

Hi Guys,

Found this while viewing other posts.

Good info for those ppl who is considering buying Fazer.

You guys should do more research, the 06 Fazer had bad fuel injection glitches that were "solved" in the 07 model.

When I say "solved" I mean hidden, what they did is to flatten out the power to cover up a flatspot in the torque curve. Which is, reducing power at the area to mask it.

There has been some talk in foreign forums of cures that have to do with disbaling the secondary throttle butterflies and/or fooling them with a device made by a tuner called "Ivan" (Ivan's blah blah blah - his stuff is quite popular)

The problem comes about because of EURO emmissions regs. On a closed throttle, above a certain rpm, they stop injecting fuel in (to make the engine burn cleaner), so if you get back on the throttle in that area, when zero fuel is being squirted in, it takes a fraction of a second for the fuel to travel and get in and ignite, giving a slight jerk. Even my 07 still has the problem.

Its a great bike, only gripes are the small tank (18 litres for this class is a little anorexic), small storage (the underseat space is tiny), jerky fuel injection (can ride around it, but it is unrefined when compared to my R1), bad fuel economy (190 kms per 14 litres - but that might be my right hand), No compression damping in the rear shock (this bike really needs ALOT of stiffenning up from new), high beams not that bright, and worst of all: it wont wheelie like the 05 Fazer!!!!

Good stuff:

Great Road Presence, addictive mid range roar, great looks, real comfy, bulletproof engine, '02 R1 Brakes, not as hot as the R1 (no fairing), wide bars make it a fun to chuck around, best mirrors ever-like I have eyes at the back of my head!

Best free mod:

Cut out the snorkel in the airbox and reroute the wiring to go under the tank, instead of through the frame.

Instant induction roar from under the tank and slightly cooler running.

On the whole, I cant afford a KTM 990 Superduke, which is my dream road bike, so I'll have to settle for this.

S'good enough for the money!

PS - Many frames on this bike have cracked due to falls and stuff, watch the welds on the side spars when buying a 2nd hand one. I have seen one local rider with a cracked frame already. Check all around the weld and use silicone and a black light if you have the opportunity, it will show the cracks if there are any.

As what I had described earlier, picture speaks a thousand words. This is how I fix up the motovation sliders (without touching the frame)

agreed on the article posted, this problem can be eliminated by using Ivan's FCE (Fuel Cut Eliminator).

Yes, that's one of the investments I'm looking into. Been using one since Motoworld first brought it in and no doubt is the best device you can get for the bike :)

Oh wait... don't tell me you also gave it away like the box and racks?! :slapforehead:

I still have mine from the S4. Guess I save on that.
