guys..

recently my bike (Fz600 s2 08) encountered error code 51(clock area) and HI(temp area). occurred 2 times within 2 weeks time.. on both occasions, i just switch off the ignition and re-turn it on again, everything back to normal.

did a search and found out that:

Diagnostic code: 51

Item: Radiator fan motor relay

Description of items:

After 1 second has elapsed from the time the engine stop switch has been turned from OFF to ON, it actuates the radiator fan motor relay five times every 5 seconds and illuminates the engine trouble warning light. (ON 2 seconds, OFF 3 seconds)

* If the engine stop switch is ON, turn it OFF once, and then

turn it back ON.

Data displayed on meter

(reference value):

Check the radiator fan motor

relay operating sound 5 times

with the engine stop

switch ON.

(At that time, the fan motor

rotates.)

anyone encountered this problem also?

actually i dun really understand what the description trying to say. i only know it regards to the radiator fan. so what should i do? is my radiator fan faulty?

u mean FZ6 tat meter will display error 51 this whole sentences ah , so high tech de ah, if i report this to let say geylang workshop they sure dont noe wat is error 51 de mah, die die must go back HL service le. And hl service not cheap leh , haiz. Just like honda bike go back boonsiew service so expensive de...

skai.. u might wan to bring it back to HL for a check soon.

dun follow my foot-steps.

& oh, i've packed a couple of useful tools in my box liao!

You found the error code list i reckon.

I hope you will be able to rectify this matter. Have HL take a look otherwise find a reputable workshop who might be able to help.

ur still under warranty, go to HL. Could just be a simple loose connector but better safe than sorry.

hmmm.. how long is the warranty ah? something like 6months or 10k km, which ever is earlier issit?

Why u nv ask us last nite?...

You always use the Engine OFF switch to shut down? Try not to use that and use off the key directly. See if the problem/error code still have bo.

got leh.. i asked jon, pop they all.. i think that time u at the other side, or u nvr pay attention to me when i'm talking :'(

anyway, i dun have this practice of switching off the engine switch. i find it abit 'geh-kang'(xtra step). hmmm... dunoe why still have this problem leh

I used to have this issue on my FZ1 during the first few months, what I did is pull out the key, re-insert fully and switch on again. Usually the error code will be gone.

Ever since I made sure I pushed my key all the way before switching on, I don't get the code anymore. Just sharing my experience but you may want to check with HL if you are feeling uneasy about it

hmmm.. when i encounter that code, i also switch off the ignition and on back again, then everything back to normal... my key also recently difficult to insert in fully. i always fiddle ard and will be able to turn on the ignition after few tries. i wonder if this is the cause of the error.

FYI, the meter will just appear '51' and 'HI' at the respective places.

i believe some shops will know about the code error, not just the dealer/agent for that brand.

now i know that code 51 is radiator related, even the shops dunoe, i can still ask them to check the radiator right....

but hor, can some1 explain to me the description.. "After 1 second has elapsed from the time the engine stop switch has been turned from OFF to ON, it actuates the radiator fan motor relay five times every 5 seconds and

illuminates the engine trouble warning light. (ON 2 seconds, OFF 3 seconds)"

i dun notice this is happening on my bike before :giddy:

Bro, I think you are confused about the fault codes and the diagnostic codes.

I have check the service manual and there is no error code no. 51.

For the diagnostic code 51, it is as you have described, but then its for you to initiate the test sequence and not for the ECU to test the item everytime you start the bike.

Perhaps you need to confirm that its error code "51"

Sorry i got another newbie question, how old is Bro SK? I'm guessing around 42-44yo from the pics I saw from the earlier pages....

SK is way more senior than 42-44yo!! He looks about that age but what's amazing is his thinking... maybe his peers think he is extraordinarily "mature"!!

yesterday i met with him and he was talking about dunno what tires..... tires that only "people of his time" will understand. Simi simi racing tyres.... somemore ask me to take reference from my dad who is 57!!! So u guess his "era".............o_O o_O o_O

elder not according to physical age but to forum age

 dis one mly say 'put oil on the fire'

Yeah you are right... he is senior in both forum AND physical age!!!

SK.....peace peace!!! Will still get the helmets for you!!!

Burning smell and heat is normal.

New bike sure got burning smell as the engine and wirings are put in use for first time, just like u "draw first blood" according to another SBF forum when u order a certain spring chicken dish.

Heat is because the bike is inherently hotter. Not sure what is your previous ride, but you will get used to it.

As for speedometer displaying MPH instead of KMH... u have a manual given to you? If so, then RTFM and RMWL. :cheeky:

i think i can guess what RTFM stands for but what about RMWL?

I do find that our bike tend to be "hotter". But what i found was that changing the radiator coolant to an "aftermarket" one instead of the one filled by Yamaha, helps a little.

I am using Maxima Coolant and it does bring the temperature down by 5-8deg and when it does heat up. The coolant seems to be able to dissipate heat a lot quicker.

Over time coolant will lose it effectiveness............then again... what do i know...... whahahahaha

if ure really concern about the heat issue, you can also use a high viscosity engine oil, eg. 50W or even higher.

and also mount an additional fan to your radiator. if it is an hassle to link it up to the ecu, have a switch mounted on your handlebar to activate the fan when you notice temperatures starting to rise.
