bcos it is only a 125cc engine, most 4-strokes 125cc has 5 gear-shifts.

2-strokers may have 6 gear-shifts, honda cub only has 4 gear-shifts.

it all depends on the cost of productions n the power of it's engine.

no point having so many gear-shifts n no power to drive it.

It's more of ride-ability/drive-ability and power compensation as opposed to needing more power to push more gears.

Imagine the operator of the machine has got to push his gears faster and more times to hit his cruising gear, as opposed to someone who has lesser gears and can ride on lesser gears shift as the band of power is stretched through a bigger range of speed.

The reason for more gears is simply to achieve faster acceleration and completely vice versa to what you mentioned. Why does a low powered phantom has 6 gears and high torque/power machines like harley has lesser? Probably the designer of phantom wants the closer gear ratios to compensate the acceleration loss due to heavy weight and low-power. And harley is powerful enough to allow less-transmission gearbox fitted for an easy bike to ride on.

Why does a tourer have lesser transmission gearbox? It's for drive-ability, you want an easy bike to ride. Why does a sports bike has 6? Because the closer gear ratios make up a faster acceleration for competitive usage. At the end of the day, probably these 2 bikes have the same horsepower, but gear boxes are setup for different usage as opposed to how much power your bike has.

The problem with small cc bikes: HP means EVERYTHING.

Hence gears are paramount in power transmission. You cant really compare with big ones where drive-ability takes up the bulk of the factor since HP's more than adequate.

If a rw do have 6 gears, i doubt you can ever red line the the engine. My bikes a very good example! kakakah....max 9000rpm loh!!....unless down slope la... :nono:

Hey ppl i was using the moriwaki exhaust for the past 4 months(roughly there) and have these comments to share with u guys.

The exhaust is VERY loud, compared to the original one.If u are in a underground carpark, and moving up slope from B2 to exit, ppl at the exit point would probably hear u loud n clear.

It significantly increases the bikes power, which gives the bike more push in the pickup, but dragging the bikes means attracting police to come.

The pipe cools down at a very fast rate. I tried putting my hand at the pipe after riding from tampines back to jurong and my hand did not stick on it. So therefore would not cause any burn injuries.

I was stopped by TP once on PIE with the pipe and i was not summoned coz the TP did not know if it was the original one anot, so i told him i dunno too, and got away luckily. But if got 2nd time, think they will know already.

Price wise is too steep actually, i spent 850 in total for it, 800 for the pipe itself, n 50 for making the pipe into silver colour(it comes in rainbow colour). I heard that they used sandpaper to slowly scrap off the colour, dats y it took albout 2 days to finish.

So if u guys considering to change the moriwaki exhaust, hope my comments gave a little help. But personally, find it too ex to pay so much for dat little power, plus need to standby 500 for fine by police. But i find the sound really cool, very loud like chopper.Hope these comments help.

So mr kelvin...u are the guy roy was toking about dat day....polishing the moriwaki exhaust...lolz. Admire ur guts la.

Anywa, wat about ur top end? Any significant top speed increase. My max i tried was 130 kph BUT dat was considered on a steep downslope!

On average, my top is @ 115...120 if i din eat! Nah...juz kidding

I was able to reach 130 for my top speed, with no pillion and needed a long strech of road to be able to hit this speed. Anyway i changed my exhaust at jurong, not kaki bukit.

Another thing, I did richen my carb settings, think i put the clip at the middle slot, should be the third one i think, did it myself, but dun quite remember..

I think you've mistaken me. The closer the gear ratios the easier the power to be transferred, thus easier to rev up. What do you mean if it has more gears it's harder to redline it.

Closer gear ratios doesn't always mean greater "Final Gear Ratio". If adding up more gears give you a higher gear ratio means you're adding that 6th gear without reducing the gear ratios as what you mean, that we're probably out of sync all these while.

kk... i see what u mean. Thanks for the valuable info. Too bad, we can't do anything to the internal gears. Personally, i'll be quite happy if the rw can run smoothly on 6 gears.

Just a reminder..... damn expensive AND EASY to get a ticket...

Speeding:

Exceeding 1 - 20km/h = $130 + 4 demerit points.

Exceeding 21 - 30km/h = $150 + 6 demerit points.

Exceeding 31 - 40km/h = $180 + 8 demerit points.

Exceeding 41 - 50km/h = >$200 + 12 demerit points + Court.

Exceeding 51 - 60km/h = >$200 + 18 demerit points + Court.

Exceeding >61km/h = >$200 + 24 demerit points + Court.

If you wan to be hero and fight the court case yourself, and you lose, you pay the court charges yourself, which wil add up to your fine. I guess the court charges is at least $200 and above.

Careless driving = $150 + 6 demerit Points.

Inconsiderate Driving = $170 + 9 Demerit Points + Court.

Dangerous Driving = >$200 + 24 Demerit Points + Court + Vehicle Compounded.

Illegal Racing = >$200 + Vehicle Confiscate + Court.

Fail to put Seat Belt = $120 + 3 demerit points.

Crossing Double White lines = $130 + 4 points.

Phone and Drive = $200 + 12 demerit point + Phone Confiscate.

Do not hold your hp in your hand when you drive even with loud speaker or ear piece.

Drink Driving = Up to $5000 Fine And, or jail Term + Licence Suspended + Court. For first offence.

2nd time offence = Jail term + Fine + Court.

Making an illegal U Turn when there's no U Turn sign = $70.

Fail to Signal when changing lanes = $70.

Driving at night without headlights or taillights switch on after 7pm = $30.

No Number Plate = $70.

Obstructed Number Plate = $70.

Obscured Number Plate = $70.

Number Plate Of Unapproved Type = $70.

As for Demerit Point system:

Let's say you have 0 points on 1st January 2005, and you committed the offence of Failing to Put on Seat Belt. So now, you will have 3 demerit points and this wil last for 1 Year. If during this 1 year you have no demerit points offence at all, your 3 demerit points will be gone on 1/1/2006.

But, if during this one year, From 1/1/2005 - 1/1/2006, you commited another offence with demerit points, your very first offence will be extended for another year until 1/1/2007.
