Does anyone have experience of attaching a GPS system to the handlebars of a VFR800? Most aftermarket clamps need a real bar to attach to and the VFR doesn't really have this. Any suggestions from anyone, maybe something similar to attaching a phone charger/holder?

Make sure your electrical system is in good condition before plugging in your accessories. VFRs are quite notorious for its weak electrical system, most common being dead rectifiers and stators.

Going to pay a visit to JK Commercial and see what they can do. A friend of mine installed his GPS on his CB400 and linked it to his headlight so it is only working when the bike is running.

@lemont97: I saw your setup but I have a Tom Tom GPS previously used in car so going to try and set that up. Expect that will work better than phone :-)

My VFR's previous owner made a custom-made bracket at Seng Kuang(at AMK industrial park). Quite expensive but durable.

But what I did for attaching my GPS is simply use the suction holder onto the inner side of the windshield. I make sure the surface is very clean and attach it at the spot smack in the middle(that is not curving).

Go get a ram mount its very sturdy even at high speed.

I just use the normal suction cup mount to hold the GPS on VFR dashboard. No need to see the RPM anyway :D

And the USB socket is located just on the frame:

I like yr idea of mounting GPS on yr tachometer. Why i didn't think of that.:clapping::clapping:

:) It's very simple for anyone. At least two precautions should be known before doing so:

1. Ensure your trip contains good roads only. Bumpy road or especially offroad is nightmare to this set-up.

2. Don't forget to tie down your GPS or the GPS mount to the bike by a soft line. It's a security and the final protection in case the GPS drops from the tachnometer.

P/S: However, during my trip in the US with almost 4K miles, I removed the secure line after the first day ride, because there were all awesome flat roads.

What a great idea but I agree with the safety line. I use a rammount which fixes into the yoke combined with Arkon GPS cover but once my GPS dropped off at full speed on Msia NSHW. Luckily I was riding on road shoulder and I could walk back and pick it up, GPS was still functioning. In fact I had a safety line but the fitting broke where I attached the line - lousy plastics quality. After that I learned to attach the line directly to the GPS. ScreenHunter_71 Mar. 18 09.59.jpg
