Class 2 and 2a is a whole diff story. Accrs both are quite similar or mayb the same. 400x insurance maintenance and roadtax should be cheaper..now pay insurance cant feel ar but when renewing that time quite tight (well, thats for me. )your price not including insurance yet

Singapore road everyday usage ,touring once in awhile , to me 400 is more than enough. Easy on the throttle is all we need. Because had enough of speed lol.

CB400X mainly caters to some countries with layered tax/licensing system like singapore, india to name a few, unlike their original version (CB50X) which is marketed like the NC700X. As such, the level of aftermarket parts are limited as compared to the NC700X / CB500X. Having said that, I am unable to say right now if any/all of the accessories for CB500X will fit into CB400X.

As for insurance, it is determined by your age, nothing else. For me, the difference in insurance value between this CB400X and NC700X is not much

For me, it is more of the Class 2A license limitation than any other reason for the selection of the CB400x. If I had access to the class 2 range, I would be looking at the new Hyperstrada. F800GS or SMT 990 for an adventure ride which handles well on the roads here.

My expectation is that the 400cc series would be a good placeholder ride offering plenty of usable power for city riding at permissible speeds. Might also work out to be a good value-for-money commuter for the general public as an alternative to the Super 4 for better fuel consumption.

You have a point there. but i specifically compare CB400X and NC700X because they make nearly the same HP, have a similar design (with the duckbill and all) and both are made by Honda. What I am also trying to portray in my earlier post is that the price difference between them of about $2.5 - $3K does not make any sense.

I do see the potential however of the price of NC 700X to fall a bit since I expect many people to flock to the 400 range, undermining the NC sales. :cheeky:

The 400 is just a 500 with a shorter piston stroke, otherwise its the very same bike, so I would expect it uses the exact same parts and accessories.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

If both is like almost identical then why not choose 400? 2k cheaper? Well atleast save quite abit on insurance etc... Everyday ride is better choice. Of course higher cc's higher maintain.... Its all same accrs wise obviously exhaust will be diff. Everything else should fit just nice from my pov....

why not get class 2 n consider nc700x? heard the review is not bad. fuel consumption, insurance, handling r comparable with class 2a bikes... in some cases even cheaper.

Then the question should be why get a class 2 license and a class 2 bike which should be more expensive if a class 2a ride can deliver a similar outcome? I guess to each his own, but I think if more 400cc bikes are introduced, the class 2 license will truly be for the enthusiasts instead of the commuter.

The prices were discussed in the first few pages of this thread. We do not sell exhaust or boxes, you may wish to source around.

hmmm... u r right in a way. but if u look closer, some of class 2 bikes are actually cheap to maintain and comparable to class 2a bike. for eg, we have xj6, fazer 600, nc700x, hornet 600... these bikes actually offer better torque and performance than class 2a bikes but with comparable maintenance cost. Yes, class 2 bike is generally more expensive than class 2a bike, but with the models that I mentioned above, it's actually comparable (around sgd16k - 22k) and in fact for the second hand value is even cheaper than class 2a bike... which mainly due to demand and model variety.

From what I believe an ideal commuter bike for city riding and also gives some thrills is a 250CC bike like Ninja 250, CBR250 or Comet 250. For more hardcore power hungry enthusiasts it is 600CC and above.

If you have class 2 full license, doesnt mean you have to buy a high CC bike. It just means there is no restriction for you and you can choose any bike you want. There are plently of people who go for large CC bikes and finally settle down for lower CC as they are more practical.

So for people who already have class 2, you should remove the mental block that because you have class 2 you should buy > 400CC. Look at all aspects and then choose. Similarly for people who have class 2A shouldn't try to maximise the CC allowance and get a 400CC bike, if you really need that much power, upgrade to class 2 and you have wide open choices to make.

Have class 2 not nesscrly to own 1. To me, having 400x prob will not have side bike as its a friendly commuter. If class 2 like me, owned 4 types of class 4 bikes its not adviseable to ride everyday. Fact num1 , bigger cc bigger maintenance thats for sure. Diff folks diff strokes. If 700 also not bad for heavy tourer that is you are free always. ;) ppl always have the misconcept off "bigger cc means better"

nah not all class 2 bike maintenance are expensive. like what r1der said those bikes maintenance is cheap same as super 4, only the road tax and insurance is slightly more expensive. but it is true higher cc does not mean better, just slightly higher horsepower, the other spec of the bike might loose to these new 400cc models.

If you wanted 'exciting', you wouldn start with a vtec, you'd straight off build a four cylinder.

Good points, end of the day, buy the bike that sings to you, both from $ and also a passion perspective. Life's too short for regrets

In that case, we got nothing to say about review or comparision already? 😮 We choose 400x that is what that matters :p the more we chat the more we know about this bike.... Dig more info.

Still very hard to find out more info on the bike though, so far I see more forums created for the CB500X. It seems to be very popular in Thailand. Good thing is the CB500X and the 400X are nearly identical except for the engine, so at least can do a bit of research on current problems and accessories available also
