Hi guys, i'm going on a long ride, so don't want battery to give up on me.

So how do you know if the battery is about to 'die'?

Mine is 1 years old! Any device to check on this?

Appreciate it!

..... if no voltmeter, check the headlight. When the headlight brightens when you throttle...

Yes, headlight. Turn on engine n light, face a wall where u can see the reflection of the light, then rev... see if there's a major difference in the brightness. But dun bang the wall for no reason... haha

U can also check by the horn. Turn off engine, just turn on ignition, then horn. Then you see whether the horn is loud n smooth.

Thanks guys,

Hmmm... i'm sure there's some device to check it.

Just don't like the idea of putting a volt meter on my bike.

Btw, i'm riding a sports bike.

some bikes such as wave use generator to power the headlight... so when idle it'll be dim

Back to the topic - how u know yr batter is going to die? if u hv a voltmeter, when battery is new for S4, it is around 12.0 something volt when engine is off. Months after month, the voltage will decline until 11.2V , then u maybe cannot start engine. Never fear, just switch off yr headlight, the voltage will bounce back to 11.5V - allowing u to start engine. Then next day better change to new battery.

I didn't know bikes got generators!:cheeky:

if ur bike has a battery, it has a generator... or else how to charge the battery

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p48/allen_key/KS_400.jpg

in bike terms, we call it the coil or alternator...

generator gives you DC

alternator gives you AC

alternator in bike... that's why we need a rectifier to change to DC to charge battery... correct anot??? :cheeky:

worst to worst, if battery too weak to start the bike, just push start lor. i did that with my FZ150 long ago, daily for a few weeks b4 i had the battery replaced. Of cos, it was a small bike, easy lah as long as not going up-slope. Big tourers better to go downslope and/or 1,2 frends help push for momentum.

DO. Or DO NOT. There is no TRY.

Guys, sorry to hijack this thread but may I know what do you

think when your lights (headlights, speedo lights)

are a bit dimmer than before? The battery voltmeter

is reading at around 12v but when the headlights are on it reads 11v something. The battery is only a year old.
