Harley Riders gather

on stock, a 883 you should be able to hit around 150 to 170 kmh, 1200 should be able to bring you close to 200 kmh or over but prepare for a rough ride

Getting past 150km/h would be easy and still comfortable. Anything over 170km/h and you will start observing stability issues. (Stock machines that is).

But harley davidsons are not really about top speeds but torque. What you want out of your harley is huge torque rather than hi hp for top speed. Coz it takes a lot more $ and effort to squeeze out another 10hp than it does another 10 N.m on a harley davidson. Just mho.

Cheers.

thx for the info. 150km/h is gd enuff for a cruiser. cheers. :thumb:

Usually its because the owners are upgrading to a BigTwin.

I no rpm meter (last time) but still can do the overtaking with the flick of wrist thing. 100km/h along orchard is like macam norm. hahaha

Hah! My bike has no meters at all. The previous owners took it all off. Just have to make do with counting the time taken between lamp posts...

One thousand, two thousand, three thousand.... Hehehehe!

i tend to visit the garage sale section more often in search of a harley.. but most of the harleys sold are 883s.. tend to be a bit worrying when u see a lot of the same models on sale...

Hi Bro, I tot of changing my rear to wide 200. Any comment? Any way, I think that i over paid for my 10 year sportster @ 13K. So will keep it for many years.

@reckless,

I assume you want to put 200 on your sporster. I am not sure if a kit is available to make that change but for soft tails, i do know that they have kits for 150, 200, 240, 250, 280, 300). I will list you the pros and cons for the wide tyre kit for soft tails only as I really do not know there is a kit out there for sportsters:

1. Very high costs.

a. Change fender

b. Change brake calipers

c. Re-locate belt drive and primary drive unit

d. New wheel

e. New tyres

f. New swing arm

g. New license plate relocation

h. New seat

i. New suspension.

j. New paint

all that adds up to approx S$7k for a 240mm soft tail upgrade. If there is a sporster kit out there, it should be about the same for a 200. It costs about S$1.7K to change from a 130 tyre to a 150 for the older softtails.

2. Cornering ability is lost. The sporster is not like the R1s or Fazers etc... where they can run 200 and still do knees down. The frame and structure of the sporster is more upright riding and so, you do lose cornering ability as compared to your stock tyres.

3. As your rear wheel is fatter and heavier, you will need more torque to start off. Fuel consumption may drop.

4. For softtails on 240 mods, i have experienced that there is huge difficulty in trying to get the bike bend into a turn. and there is a slight tendency that your bike steers left due to the belt drive being pushed out a few more inches.

Pros:

1. Looks damn awesome

2. Safer at hi speeds (straights) due to higher contact patch. But then again, i have never tried top speed on a fat tyre yet as the mod is so great, i fear that there could be stability issues at top speed.

Unless the harley comes stock 200 or 240, (where they have designed the frame and swing arm to fit and have passed tests), i suggest not to go the fat tyre route.

It is very costly and you may be fast at the straights, but the first corner coming up and you would hold up your friends behind you. Then you lose the essence of the sporster.

Just mho.

Cheers

Hi guys. I wander where can i get a sportster's tank fuel cap. And is the cap a standard size for all kind of Sportster model?

You can get it at the dealership but if you want really nice ones, you can order from Meng, Tony or Ah Yee. Kuryakyn (spelling?) makes very very nice flushed fuel tank caps that has a special hex key to lock it.

If you are getting the stock harley one from the dealership that can lock also, do make sure you test the lock before you buy it. IMHO it is not very well built and quite dodgy.

There is also another nice one from Harley and that is flushed too. You push it down, and it pops up for you to unscew but it cant be locked.

Cheers

2up seat? HD, Corbin, LaPera, Mustang would be the usual suspects :)

@stevenbarter:

Kiamh is correct. Those are very good seats out there. LaPera especially. The new LaPera ones comes with memory gel foam. Very comfortable despite being thin. It fits the contours of your sporster very nicely.

If you want other accessories, you can go to the Custom Chrome and Drag Specialties website. Download or buy their catalogue (as thick as the yellow pages) and just drool. Or you can go to JP Cycles website and just drool on your keyboard. JP ships to singapore but doesnt accept Paypal or Credit card. You need to wire transfer to them. But they can be trusted. so its ok. DONT Be tempted to buy the German helmets from JP Cycles website. They dont fit well unless you are there to try it yourself. Or you have a cone shaped head. So just FYI on that.

You can go to Meng@ Sumsoon or Tony@Custom Cycles and flip the catalogues too and they can order for you.

However, do note that if you intend to sell off or trade your sporster next time back to the dealership, you will need to remove all the accesories and put back the stock ones. So, keep the stock ones in good condition as you never know when you need it back.

Enjoy.

Ride slowly and safely. No need for speed especially in SGP. Traffic lights and speed cameras everywhere...Hahahah.

Well I'm glad the ex-owner took the meter out. I was contemplating of removing the mirrors as well. I am the kind of rider who turns his head and checks blindspot rather than using mirrors. Besides, the mirrors too low and I cant see a thing when I am riding upright.

You're staying in the north? So am I. Nice bike you got there.

LaPera is working on a new solo seat for 07 and up sportster/ nightster. the new sportster has the ECM...at the rear fender which needs some modification to be done in order to have the bare bones look...I am waiting for them to come out with something good which they wrote and say will be release in may or jun.

in the mean time, this is a proto type seat for one of their USA customers

Yo Bro,

I saw on web, they do have sportster 200wide kit all in about US2K. exclude shipping. base on the detail, i think i can fix it myself on cost saving. Did you change yours?

But your con is much more then your pro leh.. make me very worry.

As for the cornering do not concern me much as i always go slow at it. I not riding a sport bike anyway. Days of Thunder are over.

But the existing tyre look square and sian..

I also tot of going to convert to 1200. Anybody can recon?

Hi hi...Neslo-Ice...Sorry to barge into this thread but I used to work with the dealership and yes of course they do take in 2nd hand harley bikes but you do have to enquire first before jumping into conclusion...It's either you trade-in your old harley for a new one or you can approach any of the friendly Sales Person in the showroom about your situation...I'm sure they would be more than willing to either help you out or give you the best advise necessary...Cheers...ARMOFPEACE...
