Harley Riders gather

The answer is within the question itself. A H-D historically is an air-cooled, basic engine. it was a design attempt that didn't take flight as expected.... who knows, down the line and over the years ...... perhaps

BigTwin

that is so right, that 45' push rod v-twin is the heart and soul of the HD and damn if they start putting radiators and rubber hoses around that beautiful engine, i will start burning harley flags man..haha.

imho getting the engine to last just by air/oil cooling is way more complicated in development than a water cool engine and btw i would recommend you get the older carburetor models :)

My neighbour riding a 48 has that problem too. He went back to HDS to get it sorted out. If yours still has any warranty, better bring back to HDS fast. :thumb:

Hi guys, anyone here know how to disconnect the side stand switch for sportster 2009 model. Read online and found out that this is quite common for harley bikes to have problem with the side stand switch. Sadly, my sporty was infected with this 'sickness'. Whenever i clutch in, the bikes seems like going to shut down but once the clutch was released, it will be back running. Anyone faced with this kind of problem before?

I would have thought air-cooled isn't suitable for SG; and push-rods are in the past. I think it's more of the price as it's double the entry sportster.

Thinking to get a cruiser someday as looks relaxing :)

depends on why you would wanna buy a bike actually. some people buy the twin cams/evos because they like the old/classic/vintage/watever look...i belong to this category. I would have to admit that comfort wise, there are many bikes out there which may feel better and ride better...but almost nothing else beats the look.

and lets take a look at the families of bikes;

1)Sportsters

2)Dynas

3)Softails

5)Touring

6)Rods

The Revolution class has one family...while the twin cam/evo class have 5 other families...so i think it's just natural to see more twin cam/evo Harleys on the road as compared to the rods.

If I could have my way...i would want one from each family hehe.

Guys, I juz got my bike back. In e end I put e progressive springs in along wif e intiminators. Also on e bike now is e Powdercoated forks wif fork boots.

And now,e ride:e front end was stiffened up. I feel e bike rides better when changing gear as its does not dipped down. Didn't go thru much potholes to try e intiminators. But as I try over e humps,at a certain speed, can feel e bike goes down as a whole n not just e front end dips down. Wow, it's seriously. Better than b4.

No prob,I never like to let HDS earn my money,so I buy most parts off eBay n put them on at my workshop. Right now e bike is in for removal of the fork legs for powdercoating n be ready to put on e progressive springs n intiminators.

Hey bro,

Recently saw your info on the battery for harleys...it really is a great piece of info....thanks!

however i juz wana find out:- How do i know the type/model of battery i should be ordering? I am ridin a 2008 Screamin Eagle Road King. According to Komoco, they mentioned that its the same battery for 97" and up tourers and obviously they won't reveal the battery model.

How do i go about ordering the right battery for my bike? Any suggestions?

Right now i guess i have to get a local battery to use 1st as the price for a battery (S$330 after discount!) from Harley is way over the top man...

Btw, where do you do the powdercoating, thinking of doin it on the lower fork legs of my bike? But need a good quality black powdercoat...

Thanks!

Hi WildMetal,

With a lil effort, there is almost nothing u cant find on the internet :) I found the following details of ur bike battery on those sites. I guess u could find the battery part number when u remove the battery. I bought bought the battery and shipped them to my Vpost USA address. Then I put the description as "Battery, Cover". Just in case they cant ship battery over, so they would think its a battery case. Anyway the my battery weighs abt 7.2kg, and ur model is abt 10.5kg, so please take the shipping cost into consideration.

You can use the dekacatalog to check what battery suit ur bike. Click the "Powersport" Tab and look for ur model.

http://www.dekacatalog.com/

From those info, i found that ur bike uses ETX30L, which i bought ETX20L and using it for the longest time.

http://www.parkerbattery.com/ETX30L.html

Another link to cross reference your battery part number.

http://www.wholesalebatteriesdirect.com/harley-touring-replacement-batteries/49603-2008-harley-flhrse4-screamin-eagle-road-king-anniv-battery.html

For powdercoating, i go to this guy call David Kong in Defu Lane, he does a pretty decent job and price is very reasonable. U have to disassemble the parts and send it to him.

More info on powercoating can be found in this link:

Bro, just curious in case i order the wrong battery...

Seems there's difference between the battery from http://www.wholesalebatteriesdirect.com/harley-touring-replacement-batteries/49603-2008-harley-flhrse4-screamin-eagle-road-king-anniv-battery.html and ETX30L.

The Amp is only 26 for ETX30L whereas the other battery is 30Amp. The sizes of the batteries are slightly different too. Does it matter in this sense?

Also the Deka Catalog doesn't indicate my specific model cos mine is a 2008 FLHRSE4. Their references only indicate a FLHR up to 1570cc. For the ETX30L website, it seems to indicate only:-

1803cc

10-12 CVO FLH (Touring)

1690cc

10-12 FLH, FLT (Touring)

1584cc

07-11 FL, FLH Series (Touring)

1450cc

00-06 FL, FLH Series (Touring)

99 FL, FLH Series (Touring)

1340cc

97-98 FL, FLH Series (Touring)

My bike is 2008 1,803cc, so i wonder whether i can actually use this battery?

Sorry for the many questions...

hmm as such, i would go with wat the mechanics at HDS says "they mentioned that its the same battery for 97" and up tourers"

but for sure most off the touring batteries should be suitable. 1803cc 10-12 CVO FLH (Touring)

to be really sure of fitment, take a measurement of ur current battery, pay note to see if u can see the part number on it. :)

Ok guess i have to take out the battery and see whether there's a model for it. But then again even if i know the model/type, guess it will only be similar to the one i see from the Wholesale Batteries link you provided earlier...

So bro, what's your ride? A street bob?

U seems to be quite knowledgeable on Harleys...Long time rider?

Posted

I'm riding a 06 streetbob now.started wif a sportster in 05. I read up on the Harleys I had as i don't want to ride a bike blindly without knowing it.with some knowledge,I saved alot on parts n repairs myself.

My 06 bob was e 1st batch of EFI dyna, found out that there was a manufacturer defect in w transmission case, causing e inner primary bearings to spoil.another defect was e stator n rectifier was a design fault too. I bought e bike at 2yr n 6 mths old wif only 5k km.by 10k km,my inner primary bearing gave way.i read on how USA recall e bikes n replace them for free,So I ask HDS on this. HDS say my bike warranty is over n didn't wanna do it unless i pay. I should them what I found. They in end agreed to replace e whole transmission n bearings for free, but I pay for labour. Labour cost me $600, but e parts cost almost $3000+.

So knowing ur bike can save u alot of money n trouble.haha

Wow that's cool...u are lucky they did do it and glad they changed for you...yup i did read about this defect on 2006 dynas somewhere bearing in mind this was the 1st batch of Harleys that came with the 6th speed tranny

wat's happening to this thread? seems that its so quiet...quite a few of my buddies are givin up on Harleys due to the recent clamp down on exhausts...

By the way bro, i emailed Parker Battery and asked them to recommend the right battery. Was able to find other sites that supplied batteries like Drag Specialties and JP Cycles....they seem to have the right kind of battery required for my bike....but are just alittle bit more ex...seems to me the tourers are all using _TX30L batteries as it seems the other websites that is selling the batteries for my bike all end with _TX30L...

Hey guys, what spark plugs are you guys using? Will be changing my spark plugs soon. Wondering if I should save the hassle of looking around by going straight for the Screaming Eagle spark plugs or are there better alternatives out there? I'm tempted by the NGK Iridium on ebay. 18 USD for a pair!

Feedback appreciated. :thumb:

Friedfishz, combine have e ngk iridium for $20 for one.i ask ah hock

If he had those 3yrs ago n he get them fr his supplier wif the part number i gave him.its gd,but not worth e price.i'm using champion spark plugs fr USA n it's juz usd$3 for one.haha but anyway ah hock recommend at least screaming eagle plugs. Really can feel e difference fr normal plugs.i'm gonna go back to minimum screaming eagles at my next service.

Yeah I think I will stick back to screaming eagle to save me the trouble of searching around. :thumb:

You can go to 10 Kaki Bukit Road 2 First East Centre #03-27. First bike shop you see from the ramp up, signboard says Project Motors/ Bike Fabricator. Look for Ah Ahn/ Kelvin/ Derek. Quality laser cut brackets.
