Now the qstn is why can LTA certify a high DB pipe as compared to lower DB after market pipes? Are they unhappy with the decibel level or not paying them enough to shut their mouth?

Ans: TUV certificate. Exhaust manufacturers who take the trouble and spend the money to send their pipes and test machines for TUV testing. After the said test, if the pipes pass whatever prescribed tests/standards, the pipes will be awarded TUV certification, recognized in EU. LTA recognizes that and so, to honour that recognition, they approve the pipes when sent for another round of 'testing' and 'certification' with LTA. TUV certification costs money and as such explains the normally exorbitant prices of approved aftermarket exhausts.

Pipes like Screamin Eagles, which are really not much louder than stock (which explains the moniker Screamin Chickens), even though passes the prescribed standard in law, does not have any TUV certification, which makes it illegal to be used even in the EU. If there is no TUV certification, LTA would not even consider the pipes for local legal use.

And sometimes, when people say their pipes are approved and it sounds loud, it may be because that dude removed the silencers, which are removable in most approved aftermarket mufflers. Some pipes are already quite loud even with the silencers on. Many people do not understand that having a cert for that pipe does not equate to having the right to run as loud as you like and do whatever you want to do with the pipes. having a cert just means that one can run the pipes but not modifying it in any way after inspection.

The limit for most current motorcycles is 99db. Anything beyond that is illegal. But...

1) I do not know how the inspection centres can measure sound in an indoor environment accurately,

2) There may be a set standard of measurement as with all other forms of measurement (ie: distance from pipe, RPM range, stationary or moving, cc, other conceivable form of factors) but I sure don't know what these standards are

3) Is there really a need for LTA to 'batch approve' aftermarket exhausts with all the application/procedures assuming that the inspection centres are perfectly capable of conducting 'type approve' for individual owners? I don't understand this part so if someone would enlighten me...

Frankly, I don't give a hoot anymore. I'll rather not know. I don't think I have any problems with the way LTA is approving the aftermarket exhausts except that they take forever to approve it. But I have issues with the way LTA is enforcing on other forms of modification. Flip down mirrors, handlebars, wheels and lighting. Every rider is different and need a different positioning of mirrors. People on sports rockets probably don't have these problems but if I can flip my mirror on my Harley in a way which I think makes me see better, why the fuss? Handlebars, some are taller some are shorter, some have long hands and some have shorter hands. Do I really need to say more?

Hi everyone, got a question in my mind. along lentor to yishun that bus lane, between 5.30-6pm LTA enforcement will frequently take photos of cars using bus lane.

BUT, the question is:

Can they park their bike on the footway/pavement AND ride on the footway to the main road?

Can anyone please enlighten me.

Corners are dangerous so get through them as fast as you can

Anyone got an inspection letter in the post for a bike you have not ridden for a while? Got a registered letter to inspect my harley which I have not ridden for well over 2 months, covered in MCP.

Would like to discuss some details with you if you don't mind. Please PM me
