good day gents!

just got my 2011 Sportster 48 from a friend of mine and i have issues with the bike. I hope this is the right thread to discuss this.

1) on 12th March, rode the bike for a good 20plus kilometers

2) 2 days later, i cant start the bike. i believe the battery was weak because when i press the start button, it gives off this buzzer sound

3) so got a jump start cable and tried to jump start the battery, but couldnt and realised that the "side stand"words appeared on the speedo BUT how come? i was in Neutral and i was sure that my jiffystand was fully extended! *feeling suspicious here*

4) so i got on the bike, retracted the jiffy stand and tried to jump start. and it worked!

5) brought the bike for a good 10plus kilometre ride (to charge the battery). bike didnt die off even in neutral.

6) parked and switched off the bike. i tried to turn it on again just to make sure that the battery is charged. so yeah it was okay and the battery did charge.

7) but the next day when i tried to switch on the bike, the battery was weak again and giving the buzzer sound!!!!

any possible cause to this?? im sure there is some functions of the bike sucking up the battery but i cant think/see one!

need an opinion on this guys :)

Check IU? Maybe try to disconnect, ride to charge battery then park overnight. If still can't start again then maybe the battery can't hold charge anymore. DRZs with the new IU seems to have this issue cos the iU is connected directly to the battery. Niwei, good to charge the battery overnight (taking the batt out and charge at home) cos u don't know if the battery is fully charged just by riding the bike. Your lights and electronics need power from the battery too as u ride.

Just my 2 cents.

Assuming batt is original since day 1, its high time the batt gave way without the proper maintenance. Changing is prob e faster diagnose method in the absence of a voltmeter.

AN650L3 (current): All mod transferred.

SW-T400 (till oct 13): voltmeter, safety features disabled. coocase v36+remote. Adjustable, folding Brake levers. Givi AF318 windshield. on-off switch(pilot light, head light, hazard light), electrical seat unlatch,Dr pulley.

AN400K6 (apr07-dec11): side deflectors, J Costa variator, Dr pulley slider + HiT clutch.

YP250, RVF400/RS250, NSF125.

New IU connected directly to battery will definitely drained out faster. I had experienced this before.. Riding for 10-20km may not charge the Battery coz you need to ride in certain RPM before the battery get charged...

Personal experience with older bike but not Harley...
