Happy New Year to all..! Just pass my 2A and super itchy to get a 400cc(especially M400) bike for the road, sadly I just bought a Pulsar not long ago.. Any1 knows of any shop selling M400 that's also willing to do an overtrade, not sure if the term is right..

I'm not sure if any other Monster owners here encounter the same thing. I'm riding a Monster 696. Anyway, here it goes...

Scenario 1 : I was at the traffic junction waiting for the lights to turn green. Just as i was about to clutch in to engage back to gear 1, the power went off by itself. It was like a 'restart' function. My meter went blank & the engine died. It all happened within a split second. The power came back and my meter light up again. I quickly ignite and move off before the cars behind me start honking...

Scenario 2 : I was on my way to work and was negotiating a bend cruising at 70-80kph. The same thing happened again. It all happened within a split second. The power went off, the meter went off for a moment, the bike jerked forward due to the engine brake. Thankfully my throttle was on, it sort of 'forced' the engine to crank up again within that split second. I saw my meter jumped from 0kph back 70-80kph again.

Scenario 3 : It was during the rainy season back in Dec. I had ended work and ready to head home after the rain. The ride home was smooth until i reached my carpark. I was so 'heng' that i managed to reach my usual bike lot, clutched in wanting to engage neutral. It was then the power went off again and the engine cut off by itself.

This time the power didn't come back. I tried switching on and off several times by turning the key to off/on positions. The meter didn't light up, the headlight didn't light up. However, the 'red light' on our meter is still blinking.

I decided to head back home first, put down my helmet and change out of my slightly damped clothes. I came back down again and try again. Surprisingly, the power came back. My meter lighted up and I was so relieved. With the help of my friends, we checked the fuse box and wires. No signs of burnt markings. I suspect rainwater had enter my keyhole (our keyholes faces the sky), cuz my key got small water droplets on it when i took it out from the keyhole.

Until today, I still can't figure out what's the main cause of it. Any Duc owners here encounter the same thing with electrical glitch? Now I always put on the bike cover whenever i park at work (open air carpark). Hope this may serve as a useful info to everyone here.

Cheers..

Water in your fuel or battery contact need adjusting. Sometimes Malaysian fuel causes those symptoms too. May also want to check batt.

Just go back to minerva and tell them the problem. They'll most prob plug it into the diagnostic machine and an error will comeout.

I've heard of something similar and turned out to be an ecu fault.

Was at carls jr ytd... Forgot to call u. LOL

hm..ok. will do the check soon, approaching my 12k servicing. thanks!

Might be due to ur akras. Did u retune ur ecu? If ur problems came on only after u install then chances are that will be the case.

I would say it is electrical issue for sure, loose connection, bad earth, faulty ecu, the list goes on, so only way for sure is to check if any fault codes come up at Minerva on their machines, as if it is happening while riding it could be dangerous (you don't want it bump starting mid corner!!) Bad fuel or aftermarket pipes would at worse cause stuttery

(whoops).... power or rough running, they would not shut down the dash. Hopefully will just be a loose connection!

True, on that note best to check the connections and micro fuses and ignition switches. Worst case senario would be a faulty dash.

Will be getting a Ducati Monster 796 soon. Saw their service manual from Ducati website which indicated service intervals of 1000km, 12000km, 24000km n so on.

I wanna check, so in between every 12,000km I don't have to change engine oil??

Wa bro, your encounter sounds kind of scary. Do let us know what is behind those engine cut offs after Minerva solved that prob.

Hello everyone.. been a while... if anyone still can remember me though :)

I haven't got my class 2 yet since 5 months ago and kinda hard to resist not to ride.

I have an S4Rs now, but still no license :( so thinking of downgrading to M400.

Anyone is looking for an upgrade? Haha...
