The screws for the engine area are the ones for the cover and not those for the internals. Handtight with application of loctite 242 should be good to do!

Was at Minerva for the first time to troubleshoot some stuff, the Mechs there aer quite friendly leh!

Oh okay! Then we can go ahead and change those screws : )

Friendly huh okay. Hope they will be friendly to me too when I go there : ) BTW we need to make appointment before going down right?

Okay neo,

So when I push my bike to Minerva, I just tell them my problems. Will they troubleshoot for me? Or should I just tell them to change the spark plugs first? I heard the mechs are not very friendly :help:

BTW grounding wire .. is it the wire used to cut off the engine when the side-stand is down?

You can change the spark plugs yourself. Easy 5 minute job.

The grounding cable is just behind your right side exhaust hanger. Connects the trellis frame to the engine block using an ~8cm long wire.

Okay neo, I will try to change the spark plugs myself first. Since it seems like the simplest thing I can DIY now.

Pro Dero seems like your bike is in very critical state. Better go for thorough checkup. When I just got the bike, I do not need to use choke when I am going home from work place. But now I need to use choke even when going home. Hope our beasts get back to their full power again soon.

Hi coolcat, I think I will let Alex see my bike first on Tuesday evening. Let him fix whatever he can at his place for the next few days. The rest I will leave it to Minerva. Maybe I don't even need to go Minerva at all? Hope everything can be settled next week.

Oh BTW I was riding my bike in the heavy rain storm last afternoon. My bike survived even when I travelled at 20km/h - 50km/h for quite a long distance because visibility was very low and some parts of CTE was jammed. Part of the PIE was flooded. Water splased all over the bike, till my knees area! Helped to wash away dirt. The bike was still growling angrily all the way in the rain. I think the bike sounds best when in low gears. Shiok! So who says Monsters can't touch water?

Merry Xmas!

Yah... I agree... alot of ppl say my mito and monster cannot touch water... but sometimes i'm just to lazy to park them underground... then when i was in ocs, i left my mito out in the sun for 3 weeks... and it was pouring throughout the 3 weeks... came back other than a flat battery (which was dying even before that), everything else was as good as i left it... lol...

As for Ducatis and wet weather, the very first day I got my licence, it was raining super heavily, those kind of 20 metre visibility, sheets of water all over the road kinda rain. Totally soaked through my raincoat, but bike ran fine.

On my 999, went through the same thing, again and again over afew days, the kind of rain that gets into everywhere, even into waterproof rain pants and touring boots. But the bike ran with no problems, except a minor electrical problem (high beam comes on by itself), which is probably due to my mods. :D

Good to know that your Monster is alive and kicking! Thanks for introducing me to another budget bike shop! Too bad he don't have receipt to prove my maintenance record for the bike.

Tuesday I have to work. But will be going to Stamford to check my bike. I only off on Sat and Sun but sometimes even Sat and Sun I have to work OT. Yesterday I washed and cleaned the bike until showroom condition now can't bare to ride it haha!!

:lovestruck: made use of the public holiday and went down to clean up my bike abit. Spent about 1.5 hours only cleaning the rims with WD40 and lubing the chain. *heh*

Anyway want to find out whats the average mileage of the dukes out there? Every since I've got my bike I've topped up fuel a couple of times and got a rough average of my bike which is about 18.4 KM/L. Oh I'm using Mobil Syn 8000 by the way.

It's good to give the bike a good clean wash! But after that you won't feel like riding it, can't bear to hehe .. Sometimes I remove the pipes so that it is easier to clean the back wheel and chain. But I don't know if it is bad to keep on taking the pipes on and off.

Consumption for mine is like 21km/Litre even though I TRY not to ride agressively. I always top up petrol at 250km. The light comes and goes off. Being kia-see (scared of death), I top it up at 250km. Wanna try 300km next time. I ever tried 360km without topping up but that time my speedo wasn't working well so I suspect it was not accurate.

BTW I only pump Shell 95 (V-Power once in a while to clean the engine). My friend says Shell 98 gives more power, but for me I don't feel any difference.

Mmm, is removing the pipes difficult?

Wow 21km/l is far better than mine, found out from another duke is about 24km/l. Sigh, also my riding style is not very aggressive, I'm still new to the bike, I tend to go quite slow. Maybe my bike is telling me to ride faster :cheeky:

Anyway your 250KM not so 'kia see' leh compared to mine, I top up every 200KM or so. Reserve fuel indicator not working mah, so dun dare to take the risk.

My Monster does 24km/litre on mostly street riding.

Anyway, spark plugs are cheap, if you guys have plug fouling problems, it might be cheaper to change it often, like every 2 weeks, rather than to overhaul the carbs. But I prefer to do it the proper way though. :thumb:

The forward cylinder is also more prone to fouling than the rear one, for some reason. If possible, get the spark plug cables and plug heads changed, they detorate over the years.

:cheer: thats impressive, can I ask what fuel you use?

Also what can account for the mileage? I'm going for servicing soon, is there anything to highlight to the mechanic so that I can try imprving the mileage of the bike.

Well, riding style is one thing, don't short shift and bog the engine down on 5th gear. I usually pump in Malaysia actually, but in Singapore, I use 95 octane petrols.

Tuning plays an important role too. I don't really know much about carb internals, but they do wear out and cause the engine to run overly rich, fouling plugs and wasting fuel. I got mine overhauled when I got my bike, it ran much better after that.
