what is meant by torquey? torque is the frequency of the wheels revolving izzit?

it means sort of like the "pull" of the bike.. its the charac of many shaft driven bike..

Anyway, to say FJR is under powered, i beg to differ..

I tried it out with an 04R1 out of curiosity, it didnt manage to shake me off a single bit.. He might not have given it all out, but so did I... or didnt I...

IMHO, FJR first two gears are bit heavy to drag,... but once it hits the 3rd gear, it doesnt lose out to many litre bikes... I might lose on the track due to the nimble factor.. but pick up, try us...

I must protest, I am taken entirely out of context. I didn't say anything of the sort. I said the bike lost about 20% of it power between crank and wheel through the shaft. That's a proven fact... chain drives, when properly maintaned only loose 2% and are superior in terms of power delivery (but require much more maintainence and fail sooner). That's why you will never find a belt drive or a shaft drive at motor-GP; they are too power inefficient.

0-100 km/h in 2.9 secs cannot be underpowered by any means. In other words, if you removed the FJR's shaft and put in a chain drive, it will go even faster.

Torque is a measuement of power: It is usually measured in Nm or foot-pounds (ft-lbs). It measure the amount of rotational force that is put out by the engine. The other measurement of power is horsepower.

Torque has little relation with the shaft of the bike. Some of the highest torque bikes around use a chain drive; again, see the hayabusa above at 141 Nm as opposed to the FJR's 126 Nm.

Omni... the R1 has 180hp and loses 2% due to chain drive... The FJR has 145 hp and looses 20% due to the shaft drive. R1 weighs 379 lbs dry. FJR weight 537 lbs. Compared to R1s we're fat pigs.... Your feeling is not wrong, the R1 is comparable to the FJR in the first few seconds. It puts out 81.2 ft.lbs compared to our bigger 99 ft lbs, but remember, we are pushing almost 150 lbs more weight. After a few seconds the R1 will leave us behind as its far superior hp and lighter weight takes over.

Bottom line is people, remember that we are riding a tourer at the end of the day. We have sacrificed speed for a comfortable seat, seating position, reliable final drives etc. We can never be as fast a stripped down, aerodynamic racing bikes in the litre class simply because the FJR was never built for that purpose. If you want to challenge a racing bike, challenge them to how long you can sit in your seat before your backside gives way.... confirm we will win.

Hee Hee.. Torque is not a measure of power. It gives an insight to power though.

Power (watts) = Torque (Nm) x Rotational Speed (Radian/sec)

But I fully agree with ur point that ultimately, human is the limiting factor.

In Singapore, the limit is not on the machine, but on us. Whether we dare to break the law, or extend to which we break the law...

True, the figures dun lie (a bit actually). But in Singapore roads with Singaporeans riding, there's not much diff b/w 2.9s and 2.69s from 0-100 kph.

The heat is terrible only during jams and if it happens in a sunny afternoon. Generally, its more of getting used to the heat. Once u become experienced or used to the bike, the speed u travel at will typically good enough for normal cooling w/o the fan coming on. Its only during the initial part when u dun dare to squeeze and keep stopping that causes the temp to shoot up... Thats my opinion.

1-2 bar- cool

3 bar- warm

4 bar- hot; fan turns on

5 bar- good luck to you!

If you're moving, its usually at 2-3 bars. Once you hit start-stop traffic its 4 bars... never seen it hit 5 yet. 4 bars already very hot.

Yeah it was Tiong from Southern.

Good for you if can get better offer.

Keep us posted.

BTW, so call 2005 model now seems to be merely new color scheme.

Why are people who ride motorcycles called bikers and people who ride bikes called cyclists?
