Thought everyone else might wanna know....

My premium with Mitsui for the coming year would be $357 (obviously 3rd party, if anyone can get 1st party you are probably not riding an RVF).

My situation : Insurance expires September 04, Road tax expires August 04. In order to renew my road tax, my insurance has to cover the period of the road tax, which is August 04 - Feb 05. So I'll need to extend my insurance from September 04 - Feb 05.

Trap (Impt!) : The shop told me they will settle everything for me and then tell me how much it is after everything is done when I go back to collect the stuff. Its a big NONO. Who knows how much they gonna charge? So always settle the price before getting them to do it for you. If they change after quoting you this sum, you can actually sue them for breaching of agreement....yes even verbal agreements are legally binding.

Was told by Ken that extension works like this : yearly premium / 12 * num of mths of extension. So it works out to be : $148.75.

I need to renew through the bikeshop. They quoted me $185 for the extension, which is about $40 more than what is supposed to be. But $40 not alot, so still alright.

Total spending :

1) Insurance extension : $185

2) Road tax : $70

3) Service charge : $10

Total : $265

Conclusion : Always check with the insurance company what premium you are charged before getting the shop to do it for you.

btw guys, it is possible to convert my current 3rd party to fire & thief on my next coming renewal? Can i do it myself or have to tell my bikeshop to do?? My bike is FQ plate. Quite a few of my frens bike got stolen, every month see them paying monthly installment for nothing.. abit worry.. and i still got 7k+ of loan.. :giddy:

Extension != renewal

Renewal is done when you need to get insurance coverage for the whole of next year. Extension is done when you only need less than 12 mths of coverage.

The $300+ you are talking about is the premium of the whole year - 12mths.

There is no more fire n theft for RVFs. Only 3rd party coverage. However i've heard there are some shops insure you of fire n theft (dont even know if thats legal).... as in you pay more, the excess goes to the shop. If any fire or theft happens, the shop will pay for your loss.

most motordiams provide this service to renew rd tax and ins...so no need worry much lah.

I just extended my insurance in late june, cant remember the exact figures but i did call up Mitsui

Ins myself and got a quote for renewing...$100+ i think.

But when i went to my motordiam, what they quoted me for renewing is cheaper by $10-$20. I was surprised! tot usually is the other way round like your case.

However i think yr motordiam's service charge for renewin rd tax is abit too ex.

I was quoted $4 or $5 only..but didnt take up the offer oso..

My next year Ins is quoted in the $200+ figure and according to the counter guy, i may get fire n theft....dunno if its the real insurance deal...keepin my fingers crossed.

Yo I just renew my insurance.

Quoted by MITSUI 's underwriters WTT for $179 third party.

Then upgraded to third plus fire and theft for $550.

that's the current rate, and yes I ride a RVF

I asked Mitsui in MArch last year, they were not taking fire & theft.

But this early this year I heard they started again.

I am 29 this year and the bike's FP, so I'm not THAT old!

Ya 550 is pretty much on the steep side, but after careful consideration( about 10 seconds ), I decided to play safe and pay, as I'm quite SUAY, and I could afford it at the time.

Anyway, used to pay even higher for my 125, but that's another story.

As far as i know, only mitsui is taking, not NTUC.:giddy:

Read in Ride magazine mini reviews of RVF400 that our bike dun take too well to electrical alarms as the battery/rectifiers are very fussy. In fact ,general advise is dun do too much tampering with the bike's electrical system.

But i wana find out anyone installed any aftermarket electrical LOUD horns? any problems with the electricals? e.g drain off too much current and stuff?

coz on just one trip to pay my installments, a total of 3 bloody cars cut into my lane

recklessly...wana get a loud horn and scare the sh*t outta these ppl. :cheeky:

And also, anyone did the Breather tube mod? does yr engine actually run cooler?

about the breather tube, the bike temp. during traffic jam is still the same, just that when moving off from traffic jam, the temp. can decrease faster.

the electric horn, if done properly, is okie. but if not done up properly, well, the reviews of the magazine of urs says it.
