This is kinda lengthy but i felt obliged to put this up as a little advertisment for his shop on a job well done...

Date: Yesterday

Shop Name: 123 bike shop(seriously!)

Address: Kempas rd, back lane of old shophouses where Minera motors is, parallel to lavender st

Phone Number: ?

What service/product did you purchase?

change eng oil, filter, rear brake & front alignment

Level of service: 10

Level of knowledge: 8

Level of value for money: 10

How happy are you overall? VERY!

What makes this shop commendable?

Friend recommended this bike shop... actually went there to service my previous bikes few yrs back. Decided to go back there again to check out the shop yesterday.

Changed eng oil n oil filter - castrol 4t, $9/btl, $13 oil filter(XR4). Then wanted him to clean my K&N filter but he said will take time to dry as its a rainy day n not adviceable to use compress air cos will damage the air filter element . Got him to check on my rear brake instead(no braking power)... very professional. Went step by step to troubleshoot it(took out caliper, clean up piston, lub it, test etc) and then finally suggested to change the pads(daytona brand - $25). Cleaned up rusty spots, put fresh grease on all the proper places before putting everything back.

I usually like to do my own basic bike maintenence but not sure if there's a correct way to align my forks. So actually wanted to ask for a little tip on how to do it but instead told me he will check out the alignment for me. Rode out twice ard the nearby blocks just to align the forks for me.

So why is this shop commendable? Some may think, "Hey, these are no big deal... any average mech can do tat...". Well IMO, this is why.

- very honest guy(kenny?) n willing to give lots of good advice("Lub here with chain lub better than WD40", "Glue rubber piece here to protect there cos see alot other bikes scratched there", even demonstrated a better method to kick start my bike!). He's not like those who are afraid u might learn too much trade secret n not come back to him. Explains stuff for you...

- professional in the way he handles your bike, gentle in everyway on it. Not like some Ah beng workshop tat treat your bike like scrape metal. Wipes oil fliter cover/drain plug/oil cap clean before opening to prevent dirt in your engine. And I'm sure u guys hated the greasy grips after a bike service... me too. This guy bothers to wrap newspapers ard the handlebar grips before putting his greasy hands on them during the servicing. And actually washed his hands before test riding my bike! 1st time i see mech do tat(maybe Planet motor also lar)... no horse run! You can see his passion for the job...

- he's a one-man-show( ) even with another customer waiting, still told me during the fork alignment he will adjust until i feel its straight... i believe some other mech might give me bull crap excueses("Your fork/handlebar/frame bend lar... cannot help lar...must change.") to make me F.O.

- cheap! for all those stuff done tat i mentioned above, he only charged a $10 workmanship fee! The shop may not look like much but Bros on a tight budget who needs some TLC kinda servicing can go to him...

TO GET MY SECONDARY THROTTLE VALVE DONE

Level of value for money: 10

How happy are you overall? Extremely happy...

what makes this shop commendable?

I reach there to look for a mech called patrick, at that moment he was servicing a ninja, then he came over to ask whats the problem...I said abt my FI problem whereby there is a powercut off when i wack my bike at 6th gear with FI light on..immediately he opened up my tank and checked whether the secondary valve is working or not, and indeed the valve was a like jammed, though the motor was working....

He played around with the switch and took about an hour to help me solve the problem and did not change me a cent, though he said a service on my FI is much adviceable...Anyway currently now there is no more FI lighting up and the secondary valve is now functioning well.....VERY VERY happy with his service...

hi all,

juz got my 2b license, thinking of getting 1st hand phantom200. been asking ard for the past week or so...eventually narrow down to this NEW SOUTHERN MOTOR at bukit merah, quote me $5500 includes everything, three years installment at 4.8%interest the boss even throw in a box....prob is that this shop seems to be quite unpopular to bikers here...

how guys?...any comments, advice or better alternatives???

beware of S**th**n man.my experience wif them was when my frnd bought a FS plate SP at 3.8k last yr wif me as main rider n him sub cuz of his age.price sounds resonable but after we signed the whole stack of contracts.grand total hits 4k+ n wan us to collect the bike 3 days later cuz they wanna do some 'touch up'!!!our mistake for not askin earlier so LL but after a few weeks,my frnd decided to change to his nm so we went dn again n they say cannot change nm unless we clear all the installments which tan consider sold to me tan can change nm!includin 10% interest it cost almost 5k!!!if not we sell the bike to them n do a reloan which we did but new price is the price tat of 3.8+10% interest+insurance which we paid in installments.when we further question them, they juz say ITS LIKE TAT 1.LL loh.sign contract le pay loh.

Best part, when we got the bike, the god damned suspension's oil seal broke, trottle jam,RPM spoilt n 2T valve snapped all within 2 weeks!!!WAT HAF THEY DONE DURING THE TOUCH UP!!??we went back again n they refuse to change it denying abt the warranty he promised us till another frnd gotta fcuk the boss rite outside his shop till he pai seh tan gif in.when we demand to change the piston cuz it is vry noisy too,to our horror, block is all black n chao ta n the mech said tat ITS LIKE TAT 1 n refuse to change the block!!!

recently, got to noe 1 of his ex mech n tan i found out tat the bosses used to tell them leave repaired bikes wif a few faults so tat they will come back again!!!

so riders, maybe u need to tink more tan twice before buying or repairing there:mad:

What service/product did you purchase?

service under warranty

Date: 20/07/05

Address: read above

Level of service: 6

How happy are you overall? pissed off to the max

what makes this shop commendable?

went down with a friend who got conned into buying a bike. still under warranty and bike had many problems but as a 2nd hand bike, it's understandable. mech was extremely unhelpful, rude and tried to outsmart me. guess how he rectified the problem of a stiff brake caliper piston? he sanded the surface of the brakepads with a power tool. excellent. i kept my silence and told myself i'll get it done myself later since he's such an idiot.

thank god i had enough experience and some technical knowledge. told the mech to get something done and he said to come back another day on the excuse of not having parts. i told him to write it down on a piece of paper and sign it because i know that these pricks are well known for tricks. he said i didn't need to know what part it was. i asked him again and he glared at me. hahaha he told me i didn't need to know what it was called and i asked him "why not" in a challenging tone. he gave up and asked his fellow mech about something and while uttering cantonese profanities under his breath (oh btw i'm cantonese too), he proceeded to get the part from a cupboard behind some bikes. came back and started fixing the stuff so i asked him POLITELY this time to tune down the 2T intake as there was too much smoke and the engine compartment was already open. he said that 2 stroke bikes are like this so i told him my bike doesn't spout smoke after half a day of riding.

if the engine was just started, smoke is obvious but after a few hours of riding, the smoke was still thick on my partner's bike.

GUESS WHAT? THE MECH TOLD ME HE WILL TURN OFF THE 2T INTAKE! I REMEMBER THIS YOU ASSWIPE. i shot back at him and said the f*cking piston will seize if there's no 2T so tune it back to the f*cking factory settings. he asked me if i was sure that i wished to do that many times (maybe he was deaf?) to which i replied yes everytime. so he told me that he will do so and while still muttering cantonese profanities under his breath, i watched him take his time. he left the bike many times to entertain the other customers and only came back when there was nothing left for him to do but then again, i have considerably good patience so i waited.

hold on, it gets better. he was going to change the engine oil when i wanted him to use R4 instead. he told me R4 was $20. Please note at this point that the bike was still under warranty and the gear shifting was really stiff so i had a reason to demand an oil change. not asking him to dismantle the gear assembly for troubleshooting was kind enough of me. fair enough, R4 $20? i told him i'll get it at hkl and when i came back, the mech had already used a bottle of R4. i told andrew i already had a bottle so i was't charged for it. simply gave him the new bottle that i bought. (just for everyone's information, HKL's R4 is $17. i chose not to pay $20 partly because i was a miser and because i just plain hated the mech)

now i fully understand why albert is known for beautiful aftersales service.

if anyone who wishes to buy a bike/ get stuff fixed and doesn't know jackshit about what they want, get prepared to be owned there. surprisingly, andrew and royston were polite enough but i can't say the same for this particular mechanic. he's the old man if anyone's curious.

care to share how your friend ended up buying a bike from Albert?

misinterpretation. i meant that my friend wanted a certain bike and they got another model instead.
