So if you are a motordiam rushing to push out the new bike someone ordered, especially if its a high price model, it doesn't matter if you bid another $500 more than the last price in 1st bidding to get your COE. For that matter, if its a bike that cost anything more than 10k in machine price, it doesn't matter even if you bid another $1k higher, since the cost is passed onto the consumer.

Well, the quota figures LTA released are till Apr 2014 only. For some unknown reason if some farker decide to revise the 719 number lower again, we will have a price breakthru in May 2014...

Balls to this system!

Exzactly ....

Aiyoh guys,

If you calculate properly, public transport is still the cheapest mode of transport in sg - taking into account, parking, road tax, coe (split annually), maintenance costs, fuel costs, riding gear cost (even if you just bought helmet only), erp, etc etc...

If bike is the cheapest, then i suppose a lot more riders on the roads in sg...

btw, cannot abolish bike coe, lor... then how gahmen want to fund programmes?

soo... no choice must support lor... after all, we already 1st world, you know?! :p

All those you pay for bike, parking, fuel, maintainence and blahblahblah is equals to time, which is priceless.

in the first place which idiot bid at 3k??? and the 2nd idiot to bid at 4k??? and the next idiot who is idiot enough to bid higher than 4k???

Doesn't work like that. Motordiam needs the COE to complete the sale transaction. The earlier they get the COE, the earlier the cash register rings. Doesn't matter if the price is 1k, 2k or even 4k.

As consumers, we already know the buying power varies from person to person. Since some shops offer instalment, it gives some buyers the illusion that the monthly cost they pay is something they can afford. Just picture this,

machine price : 7.5k

coe : 3k

OTR (without insurance) 10.5k

instalment 5 years : $175 + 7% compounding interest

machine price : 7.5k

coe : 4k

OTR (without insurance) 11.5k

instalment 5 years : $195.80 + 7% compounding interest

machine price : 7.5k

coe : 5k

OTR (without insurance) 12.5k

instalment 5 years : $208.30 + 7% compounding interest

Its like the Courts Instalment Illusion...Pay few hundred per month to own the latest, largest LCD Smart TV. Only in this case, it the shiny 2B bike. Tell the P-plater its stupid to buy a bike like this...I can't even hide my anxiety to get a bike for the first time and ended up with a lemon. What would you think the P-plater would say to your face?

Agree with 'Mr anger'. If everyone bid 1k, will the coe will be that high?

If this works, then why not everyone bid $1?

Its human psychology. Just like last time queuing outside Double O to enter the venue. Queue in the ordinary line, pay the normal fee and wait. Pay extra and jump queue. Got people pay extra? Sure have one! I am one of those stupid people lor... Am I the only one? Judging by the number of people who join me or was in front of me at the express queue, I seriously doubt so.

agreed with yr maths bro. but what i am trying to say is that really got idiot bid 4k?

for bike COE i believe only dealer will bid. unlike cars, direct owner will wanna try their own luck to save the few thousand bucks. so which dealer so power to jack up the COE from 1.5k++ to 3k? and now 4k. so whats next? pay a COE of 10k to own a cub or scooter which cost is less than 3k and only owned for 10 years? why not apply COE to bicycle also. the bicycles population on the road have increase so much now. people are willing to buy bicycle worth few thousand bucks. some even more ex the Bikes. so they sure don mind paying COE on bicycle.

thats why its time for the GVM to look into this matter.

maybe should just void COE. lol.

apply high GST!

basic needs > 7-10%

luxury > 15-20%

luxury luxury > 25-50%

the lower group will be happy and contended.

the middle group can afford.

the super rich? WILL NOT GIVE A DAM.

Don't worry, Bro. This brilliant scheme of bicycle COE is in the process. I remember some brilliant MP from PAPAYA raising the point that riding a bicycle should be regulated for the "safety of all road users".

Its a matter of time. Give the PAPAYA another 5 more years of power in 2016, and we may even see ERP installed on bicycles...hahahaha.

Seriously, bike ownership is less than 200k people, I think. 200k people of a nearly 4 billion population is a murmur in the crowd. Its not even a concern since bikers have been painted by mainstream media as trouble makers, accident causers most of the time. Couple with the old 2T smokey bikes and bikers who choose to act irresponsibly (e.g. riding on pedestrian pavement, climbing onto kerbs and walkways to avoid gantries), I have a feeling that bikers have been made a target of dislike by the media for the general populace.

As for taxes, economics will prove that in order for taxes to be effective, it must be aimed at the general population and not just the rich. No point imposing a 50% luxury tax on just 10% of the super rich population. It yields lesser monies from 10% tax on 80% of the general population, and irritates the super rich. Not forgetting the fact that most big shots in garmen are also rich to begin with...

Mr anger was talking about who are the idiot bid 4k. People are fighting each other for the coe and bring the coe price up.

I understand Mr Anger's frustration. I am feeling the same too. I think most of my posts inside this forum have been about this stupid COE scheme.

if ERP on bicycles, there will be ton of ERP gantries. lol....!!!!

There is already a tonne of them now. One straight road from SOTA to town of less than 2km already got 3 gantries. I think next time they use the GPS enabled system, the ERP will start charging from the moment we leave our carparks...wtf man.

Let me be sarcastic for this post

"But think on the bright side, we may get a few hundred dollars in 2016. And maybe some GST rebate also. Or maybe even some Patriotic Bonus like the NS45 allowance... $80 dollars for serving 2 years of NS. Which brilliant General thought of this scheme to reward our 2 (2.5) years of slavery, while people are imported from overseas to fill our job vacancies, huh?"

in no time,

a pair of track shoe in SG will cost at least 1k liao. cause ppl will choose to walk than owning a vehicle including bicycle.

believe me. sports giant like nicky and adds will see this as potential and highly advertise on their future products! lol

seriously how i wish i m in NS now.

stay army, (no need to worry about shelter, apply BTO, apply HLE...)

eat army, (every day 4 meals provided. everyday different food. no need to worry what to eat.)

wear army. (everyday same attire. no need to think what to wear. no need waste money to buy.)

No need to worry COE as we will have 3 tonner, buses, helicopter, c-130...

***even oversea all fully paid!!!! (SQ somemore!)

no need to worry. no need to work. no need to pay bills and get paid.

Free medical! dun even need to use medi-save!

NS should stretch to 5 years instead of cutting to 2 years.

reservists should be every month instead of every year! and stretch to 65 year old instead of 40!

I think something else will happen.

Public transport will suddenly become very crowded, not that it isn't now. But it will become so crowded that you will need to employ station/ bus staff to help "squeeze" people into the trains/ buses. Then, gahmen will announce, public transport making a big loss, need to up the transport fare.
