You might want to consider skipping Hatyai and heading straight to Nakhon Si Thammarat. It's out of the way but you might enjoy it more than Hatyai which I think now is too commercialized. Prepare to reach slightly before at around lunch if you arrive at the Bukit Kayu Hitam in the morning.

It's a nice town with lots of old buddhist/hindu temples. Great value seafood, hotels. There is a carrefour & bike accessory shops within walking distance from the central area in town. :thumb:

To exit Nakhon, head towards the coast and follow the coast along Highway 401. You can't cut across town due to a military base at the end of town.

To go to Don Sak, stick to Highway 401. I remember signs pointing to Don Sak along the way. Should not get lost even without a map.

haha yes bro been there n back liao. tis time i didnt bring

any maps juz using my memory of the route :p

i went up by highway 4 then 401 i tink. but when comin

back went by the old costal rd i tink took me bout the same time

as goin up n the distance is shorter by round 40-60km.

comin back by the othe route i find it more scenic n less traffic

but theres a place where u turn off right to thung song frm nakhon

then u wont c any signs leadin to pattalung n haytai for a veri veri

long time haha :p juz hit on straight frm there n will c the signs.

i like thai n malaysia roads almost idiot proof juz go straight on if

u dun say any signs after u turn off frm the place u wan to go.

Hi there,

Anyone been to Koh Samui lately? Thinking of giving it a go with Super 4. Need help with the following... ;)

A. Check the route after Hat Yai.

1. Route 4, Phatthalung > Thung Song > Nakhon Si Thammarat > Don Sak (Surat Thani)

2. Route 408, Songkhla > Nakhon Si Thammarat > Don Sak (Surat Thani)

It seem to me both routes about the same distance, (maybe around 30KM different), but, which way is faster and safer?

I assume route 4 is faster with the bigger road? any idea how long route 4 or route 408 will take me?

B. Any good place to stay (cheap & good, I know both don't come togather, but need to budget)

My plan is simple, moving off around 22:00 & only stop for patrol, toilet along NSHW

Travel speed around 120-140KM/Hr

Hope to hit border at 07:00 (next day)

Get a 30mins rest/makan after border crossing

Continue either Route 4 or Route 408 (if route 408, might stop by Songkhla to check out the hotel, plan to stay on the way back)

Should be able to get to Don Sak around 12:00/13:00

Stay 2/3 night there, might include one night in Koh Phan Ngn (not for the FMP, my timing not even have half moon :/)

Thanks,

Tan

route 4 is favourable

seems like uve got it all planned

just pack n go

Most people go through life following the crowd.

Others think for themselves.

They go their own way.

Thanks for the reply and the link..will check it out ;)

This is Raja Ferry website:- http://www.rajaferryport.com/en/index.php

with the time table and price, good thing is they have ferry from Koh Samui to Koh Phan Nga now, but I not sure if my Super 4 can handle the road there or not. ;/

I plan to go Samui during CNY, very likely with I, Me & Myself ;), I will skip Hat Yai and go Samui, I can then buy a pack of beer and enjoy the seaside, rather then don't know what to do in Hat Yai.

Also, plan to stop over at Songkhla town on the way back as I never been there before. Or maybe Danok, but I bet the town will pack with people during CNY period.

BTW, any Hotel/Guest House to recommend? I read somewhere saying Mae Nam is more peaceful to stay?

Thanks,

Tan
