Just wish to ask the experienced riders here. I was on the expressway which is 3 lanes and i was on the middle lane riding at 90kmh. Did not go to the 3rd lane as many slow lorries and buses there. All 3 lanes are full of vehicles.

Got a Opel car behind me high beam at me. I can close up the 15m gap in front of me but did not do so as i try following the 2s rule.

Should i

1) try to filter to the 3rd lane to join the slow moving vehicles ?

2) try to keep left of my lane to allow the Opel car to overtake me ?

3) close up the 15m gap

4) remain where i am and tap my rear brake to warn car behind ?

Thanks.

I will be for getting away from the Flasher.

For one.. He is impatient! And a danger to u!

So fine if u decide to go Lane 3.. slow down.. Let him overtake.

Or

Lane 1/Split lane(if u are comfortable) to get in front...

Just wish to ask the brothers here. I almost got into an accident yesterday evening arounf 7pm around bukit timah road. A BMW turn from minor to major road into my way ( I am going straight on major ). I horn him but he still turn out. I had to make an abrupt left swing to avoid hitting him but i make sure i swing to the divider line and not to the next lane. I was going at around 40 kmh.

Should i had brake to allow him to cut into my lane? But i afraid cars behind would hit me from behind. Or should i install louder horn?

Posted (edited)

u'll learn that in hov.

on a serious note, i think u did well in swerving to the edge of ur lane, and not to the next lane.

as bikers, we need to know what is around us, preferably all the time. so we know what to do. if u r sure there's no one ready to kiss ur ass, no prob, brake to allow him to pass u by, w/o hurting u.

if u r very sure there's no one on the other lanes, u can also change lane and rev up all u want (just not my style ba).

louder horns imo is useless in such a scenario where the driver ald know u r a biker. [horn l@n ARH? i wanna go LEH! u come and bang me LAH!]

perhaps will work if driver genuinely did not see u in his/her blindspot (he may then think it's another car beside him and give way to the imagined car, only den realise it's a biker).

i installed louder horns

and even if no use like you mentioned

what i do is pull up next to the driver and let him have a taste of my horns for at least 5 secs!!!

doesn't do anything else but relieves my tension & piss them off

then i ride off happy :) :) :)

Riding or driving, all the same.

This kind of situation, should always look into the small road to see if got cars coming out.

ALWAYS assume he will attempt to turn out. Likewise, if you are the vehicle in the small road and see car approaching with signal light on, you cannot assume that he will be turning into the small road. Sometimes the driver/rider forget to switch off signal.

Slow down (of course not slow until the car thought you going to turn in) when approaching so you have time to stop if the car really turns out suddenly.

My bike is stock! Please don't jio me!

Hey guys. Witness for accident needed here. I'd be really thankful for any witness who would stand out to help me.

Accident is on 9th of Feb 2010. Around 8 10pm at Tampines Ave 2 and Tampines st 32/23 Junction. Vehicle involved: CBR 400 (DARK GREY), TOYOTA VIOS (BLACK).

I was travelling along the road just outside Ngee Ann secondary, Tampines Ave 2 towards PIE. While approaching the junction. The traffic light was green in my favour and was hit by a car turning RIGHT from Tampines Ave 2 into Street 32.

I was flung 5meters and suffered various injuries such as:

Urethral injury (urinal pipe)

Blunt trauma to right eye

Nasal bone fracture (nose)

Right thumb fracture

Right distal radius fracture (wrist)

and warded 5 days.

I was lying on the ground where kind pedestrians came to my rescue. The driver did not apologise or asked about my condition while i was on the ground. All i saw was, he just glanced at me and walked away. (He did not hit&run.)

(I moved off from the junction at TAMP JC Straight down when the redlights turn green. I went to the scene of accident and notice that almost every car from that junction MOVING OFF FROM an immediate green light could pass by the junction of my accident effortlessly. Means it will also be Green light. However, its not of an useful support for my case.)

I had a lawyer to fight for my claims but no witness could prove that i DID NOT beat the red light.

Hope that there will be any witness who was at the scene of accident to prove that i DID NOT beat the red light.

Any witness please call me at 93803365.

Thanks people.

Agree - and at HOV you learn to see this stuff coming from afar, and be prepared to it.

I changed my stock horns to a Hella horn and I can see the difference in this exact case, because most of the time, either the driver did not see me and the bike, on he did but just thinks that somehow he'll "squeeze" in or that a bike is not important.

Bottom line is, I always assume they're going in. I always slow down, and I am usually able to change lane - specially on known roads that I travel often: I just make it a rule to anticipate, I know there's a minor road, just to be safe, a bit before I change lane - if not possible, I slow down and if I see a car coming I horn once, a quick sound just to let them know I saw them and make sure they notice me.

Aftera few months of riding, the thing I have the most difficulties with are cars cutting into my lane, squeezing in front of me. It's really giving me a hard time and I find it very hard in the city to maintain a safe distance because anyone will try to force themselves in the space, even when it's too small for their car !

On the highway it's a bit easier to have a cocoon of space, and if on the lookout for the crazies, you can see them coming in your mirror, playing slalom with other vehicles behind you.. But on normal roads, drivers can cut so abruptly into the lane without signaling or worse, they signal and turn at the same time .. I try to anticipate (when it's a cab i just assume he will do something dangerous so I always stay away from them) but sometimes it catches me by surprise and although I always manage to slow down or change lanes, I had a couple of close calls and it's not fun :weep:

Ah, you summed up my pet peeve for years perfectly. As far as I'm concerned it's local culture not to signal before turning, and this applies to any sort of vehicles.

Motorbikes? No signal at all most of the time!

I'll just let the last-second lane changer go ahead in front of me (I will brake and instruct him to take the spot. Makes me look good, too!) And I notice the driver doesn't expect me to help him and either takes the spot happily waving back, or hurriedly gets back in line. Scared!

More or less that's how I can plod along slow traffic unmolested whist not lanesplitting. I just look and ride in a very alien way.

However I don't tolerate drivers who cut in front of a non-lanesplitting bike that's filtering out to make a turn, thinking "there's enough space" when there isn't, like you said. That's when I'll break out the "stunt pilot" modus operandi and lock on to the guy in front's bumper making the silly idiot look stupid blocking the road in the middle lane.

Some horning usually ensues as the car behind me takes my side (they like to stare at my big fluffy hair) and starts battling the queue cutter! Once, a van forced a car off the road entirely for that reason. Van Drivers FTW :D

Somehow, there hasn't been a pileup situation in this kind of close quarter filtering environment since, local drivers -are- very vigilant in their rear view mirror checking and drive carefully if someone bike is locked on to their bumper (literally).

Not something to be taken advantage of, but there are caring lads (and ladies) on the road, who in their younger days, have rode bikes (loud, fast ones too) themselves.
