was riding in the 1st lane when ALMOST got squeezed into the centre divider on BKE while on the way back to work just now by a stupid white mitsubishi.

As veterans informed me:

1) Don't speed

2) Don't Hog

:lol::faint:

Whatever it is... let your head control the throttle and not your emotions aka ego.

Ride defensively and assume that everybody else on the road is an idiot... and in that way if you happen to meet a considerate rider or driver.. take it as twice the blessing. If he turns out to be an inconsiderate idiot.. you already expected it so no big deal.

I have been riding for 33 years... and that is how I keep myself alive on the roads. You guys should learn something from this.

proactively moving out of potential danger zones and into safe pockets of spaces.

But you are right about the idiots part. After 15 years, there's not much they can do on the road to surprise me and get my temper flaring.

Yeah. That's what I do.

Only... replace idiot with "assholes". And assholes are always out to kill me.

Am glad my philosophy is in line with veteran riders. Active Safety.

and just now while riding in a carpark, it was madness!! first a car wanted to come out from its lot. i had to swerve left to avoid it. only to swerve right again when ANOTHER car on my left also wanted to come out. that one never mind. after 10m or so. got ANOTHER car wanted to come out from its lot so i swerved left again to avoid it and then back straight only to avoid yet ANOTHER car that's coming out from its lot also! total madness! and yet scary!!

What bike u got? a horn @ the first may have prevented the other few.

Today while riding! :faint:

Really wanted to confront this driver at traffic light (red), but decided 2 heated heads ain't gonna solve anything...

Please help to make this guy famous, else he's gonna harm one of us sooner than later.

Actually I ride slightly faster than the traffic so that I only concentrate on all the idiots in front. All the time expecting an idiotic move from them like switching lanes without signalling. In a way... I guess I call that being defensive.

Mebbe the right word should be proactive instead of waiting for crap to happen then react to it.

Ride safe. :thumb:

Yeah. That's what I do.

Only... replace idiot with "assholes". And assholes are always out to kill me.

Different terms, different perspectives, but i guess we are all doing the same thing: Running away from murderous idiots behind us while dodging the murderous idiots in front of us in case they really do something that will kill us.

Am glad my philosophy is in line with veteran riders. Active Safety.

Good start, but please take note such "paranoid" anticipation technique may involve alot of speed and acceleration, basically to get yourself out of imaginary (and possible) kill zones the idiot drivers will potentially murder you in. In many cases, situational awareness and correct judgement of safe escape route may need to be gained through experience. Some learn faster, some get it correct slower (like me, several operations and countless bandages later). Ride safely please, knowing it and doing it without thinking may take time...

Even veterans may need a near-miss once in awhile to prevent getting over-confident. :cheeky:

JackOhJack, something similar happened to me tonight as I was riding back from my recce of the F1 track...was on Upper Serangoon Road just after PIE heading towards Hougang side. This tow truck with a Toyota Wish in tow came very close to me...I could not even give way cos was in the slow lane already...in the end I move to middle lane for him to speed pass me...

...later...just after the Braddel Road junction, I went straight...this truck is now in middle lane and I in slow lane, in front of me got a taxi in slow lane...that truck just swerve left into one of the small roads to the private estate...taxi and me gotta jam brake...

interesting isn't it?

nothing against the bike but some riders just think that their bike is all high and mighty and just like to open their VTEC when overtaking...

is it?:dozed:

its the attitude of the riders, got nothing to do wif the bike

in fact, class 2 riders seem to have more 'manners' than these class 2a riders.

not 100% correct, there are F-up cls 2 riders around too:sian:

Had brushed in with few drivers with mentally retard childish thought of 'bikes are s-hole and cars are kings on the road' yesterday

It was around 8pm on PIE towards tuas. The traffic was mediumly heavy. On my GTR 1400, I was travelling behind a black sporty car with after market exhaust on lane 1. All was cool until this car lane change (without signalling) during a bend. Upon seeing his car was 80% on lane 2, i sped up.

To my bloody shock, for no apparent reason he moved back to lane 1! I press and hold my honk to alert him of my presence on his immediate right. I could not slow down to give way because all these happened during a bend and there was a car driving quite close behind.

After he got behind me, he flashed his high beam continously for 5 sec. (probably could win the Singapore Guinness record for doing so).

I raised up left hand and flashed my middle fingers. Then i swayed the finger left to right continously. I pulled my throttle and did lane split to clear away from him.

He tried to follow suit but was blocked by other cars. What else can he do? ohhhhhh....he tried the high beam flash stunt again. This time at the expense of other road users.

I could not be bothered with him. Pulled throttle and zipped off.

yup, sometimes needa accelerate outta harms' way (like if a funking truck tailgate @ 30cm!!!):faint:

most cases dou, i tend to slow down rather than speed up. mabbe its coz of my bike, but also bcoz if i qiong fast and anything happens, it would have happened at that higher speed. if i slow down and something happens, it would also have occurred at that lower speed.

Exunctly, such drivers are really idiotic azzholes, if im "hogging" den ok la, my bad, but funking hell, there's OBVIOUSLY a driver in front of me... :sian:

What do such drivers need to have in their heart in order to do something like that? I akin it to a murderer's mindset...

in your encounter, not only were u endangered, the cabbie also chua dio sai ah. so it's back to the vicious cycle of TP bike > truck > car > motorcycle... ... ...

I was really boiling and wanted to confront him, not to bash him or anything (nothing to gain, everything to lose), but perhaps to get him to realise that his actions were plain irresponsible.

Today while riding...

Went for breakfast and on the way back home, was happily riding on PIE until I felt engine running on fumes. I reached down and to turn to reserve, but the fuel c0ck cant turn in the correct direction. Realised to my horror I had left the fuel c0ck in reserve without checking (my meter cable broke off and for two days i was running without clocking mileage). o_O

Resigned to pushing bike off the expressway and at least another half a kilometer to the nearest petrol kiosk under the hot sun, I glided all the way to a chevron marking and parked inside. Stood around and checked GPS for a petrol kiosk nearby and the shortest way to push.

Coincidentally an Expressway Patrol pulled over another vehicle right in front of me. Decided to inform them before they think I am parking in chevron markings for fun and laughter. The young officer is sympathetic and straight away called EMAS for me. I was already embarrassed enough to get stuck due to my own oversight, and now more and more people got involved.... :faint:

EMAS tow truck came shortly and the two friendly chaps onboard, being bikers themselves, helpfully towed my bike to right beside the 1st petrol kiosk off the highway, reducing the distance to push my bike to a mere 5 meters.

If the two towing chaps are reading the forums, do drop me a PM. Lunch or dinner's on me after puasa month.

Like I have said before....

If riding on the roads is like going to war with other road users, requiring you to use flipping fingers, swerving and accelerating techiques to escape attack, requiring the frequent use of your overly loud aftermarket horn in your crusade against the other road users... and if it happens everyday you get on the bike...

Something is very wrong with the way YOU are riding. You are either very poor at reading traffic and forseeing situations, have very low situational awareness or just plainly possess poor road etiquette.

Really, its time to do some self reflection.

that's true. sometimes after riding, i do reflect if my riding was bad. :cheeky:

however, i have to say that most Singaporean drivers ARE like going on a war path everyday, using all their office politics skills on the road. Like, if you happen to know that during the peak hour, the bus lane is coming up and you are not turning, you better get off the left most lane ASAP. No, many drivers bo-chap; either they drive INTO the bus lanes or do a last minute swerve into the 2nd lane when there is a bike. Why? cos they purposely want to speed in the left lane becos others are avoiding it. That's just a small glimpse of the mentality of some drivers.

P.S. Honestly, I seldom see bikers dare to ride in the bus lanes, except for kupkias.

I was NOT road hogging ok!!!:cheeky::cheeky:

I have this habit or shall i say phobia of vehicles that tailgate so whenever i ride, every 5-10 seconds i will check my mirror for any vehicle to pass. Doesnt matter JB rempit/S4(i also s4 rider)/blackbird/gs1150/ktm adventure/mclaren/fellali...

i just hate road hoggers so i try not to be like them.

as for my speed, i was going at a reasonable speed of around 100-110kmh..very nice cruising speed for s4 i think and there was no car/bike behind me..

Wah another case of monkey behind the steering wheel. i kena yesterday, u kena today.

i think the monkey didnt practice his lane disclipline when he realized he "drifted" to lane 2.

did about the same thing as you except the horning and the middle finger part(cause was fasting)

the only difference is i didnt think the stupid monkey car was chasing me...

This is another example of monkeys behind the steering wheels. and another phobia of mine...i really a lot of phobia one...haha...

when do we feel that we can safely overtake the vehicle in front...when 80%,50% or 100% in the lane and we are sure that the vehicle wont swerve back into our lane?

KNN(break fast already ah so can vulgar abit) i will always try to ride defensively/safely/actively but with so many monkeys on the road how can we predict their next act?

It aint me officer...The bike is POSSESSED!!

Even most idiots do not attempt the apparently impossible, such as changing lane when another car is directly beside them. So a part of predicting is reading the traffic and what each car can do (or rather, what the driver may think they can pull off).

Next is observing his lane discipline and speed. If the cars seems fidgetty and restless, most likely the driver is impatient for whatever reasons and may do something normal drivers will not do. Give it wide berth, especially if its a sporty type with a young one behind the wheels or a large expensive luxury car with those i-can-afford-any-lawsuit type of uncles.

Basically this two factors will help alot in determining when to pass safely and when to watch out. Others like relative speed and position, visibility, road conditions, etc will generally help in giving a feel of whats to come.

If all else fails bring a crystal ball.

EDIT: oh, of course, and make sure the path to overtake is clean and direct, and you dun dilly-dally in executing it. Once determined safe, don't wait for other drivers to change their mind and foul your path again.

can i just rant on how much i hate th AYE ?

i knocked off after work slightly late, thus i had to rush over to get to my part time job. i wanted to changeover to lane 1 to exit at clementi ave 6, but there wasn't a chance fr me to lane change. so i just straddled between lane 3 and 4. behind me on lane 4 was a BBO, beside me on lane 4 was a stupid bozo. there wasn't even space for him to change to lane 3, yet he still moved nearer and nearer to 3rd lane. and let me make this clear, i was riding ALONGSIDE that bozo. meaning, i'm not even in his blindspot as he can just see me from the corner of his eye. i didnt horn, but my bike suddenly lost power and i just had to throttle hard. really felt like smacking on his window or kick his mirror, but then again, i'll be the sandwich.

then whilst delivering orders, i was sleepy, so i decided to play with the headlights when th lights were red. highbeam, lowbeam, highbeam lowbeam etc ..~ hehe .. the lady infront got abit pissed, winded down her window and gave me the wth face. i think she also nothing to do then give me the wth face.

anyway, on the middle lane after the maju camp stretch of road heading to ulu pandan, i just realized that theres a pit in th middle of the road. i pass by there almost everyday, even when doing deliveries, but never realized that crater existed. was it already there all along? coz just this morning i rode into that bugger hole. butt pain man ! hehhs ...

anyway, issit me or theres more of TP sightings nowadays? yesterday wanted to filter to clementi ave 6 from PIE, got LTA officer on road shoulder. WAAAA scared like hell laaa .. luckily never kena ask pullover. haha

Hmm.. I actually like AYE/ECP more than PIE... lanes feel wider, and the driving style of the road users are more predictable. But's just me I guess.

But.... what are u doing riding alongside a car? o_O

It simply puts you at the mercy of the other driver's lane keeping skills.... Better to either pass him/her completely and keeping him/her behind you, or just stay back...

What bike u got? a horn @ the first may have prevented the other few.

i rarely use my horn, use it only when in critical situation rather. i just got a cheap piece of junk. a Yamaha DT125 rather. too poor to afford a wr400 right now. but i'm still loving the feel of this 2 stroker. orgasmic feel whenever i accelerate away!! nice power when the valve open. maybe now i know why all those super 4 riders seem 'hostile' to me. maybe they are just too high enjoying their ride till they see me as non-existent. :cheeky:

is it?:dozed:

its the attitude of the riders, got nothing to do wif the bike

not 100% correct, there are F-up cls 2 riders around too:sian:

i've yet to meet with F-up cls 2 riders though. most seem to take their time to move off from the traffic lights. it's usually the kupchais that accelerate away!

OK!! checklist time for me. i don't have the 'going to war' mentality, i rarely flip out the finger(too lazy to gesculate wildly), swerving and accelerating away from danger is a yes(too lazy to do an e-brake),don't use horn(horn also no effect until i become lazy now), and it happens almost everyday on my bike.

so, how do i rate? the only bad thing i can reflect on myself is that i like to close throttle when the traffic light is red. until just now kena horn by a car. bloody car! so many empty lanes, still wanna pick on me.

Today while riding,

Some joker in a cage decided to spray water onto their windshields @ 90km/h on the expressway. it's not even raining and wth are they squirting the water on the expressway. even if got birdshit also no need on the water for the whole 2-3km...

Damn faggots..made my suit wet.

maybe the weather is too hot and they are trying to be nice to you to keep you cooler.

my favourite expressway has got to be TPE and SLE and my least favourite will definitely be AYE and KJE!!! how often do you see big trailers/lorries or buses driving on lane 1 or 2? ALWAYS!! scary!

and i think there's more sightings of them due to the enforcing of the new law of the passengers thingy on lorries.

there's a caucasian dumba$$ lady who couldn't care less and EVERYDAY driving her SUV in the bus lane all the way from Singapore Poly to i dun noe where (i nid to turn halfway) during morning peak hours. Either she is so stupid that didn't realise that it is an offence or she is so rich that $100 fine per day is peanuts to her. :faint:
