Riding defensively is best, but it seems like drivers should at least understand their actions endanger lives of bikers? Instead of that 30 minute video being shown after passing the 2B / 2A / 2 licence, they really should show it to 3 / 3A licence takers....

today while riding...

 

was quite an eventful day, early morning otw to school saw an old uncle fell from bike, think it was a slow speed fall after turning left into PIE --> Tuas kallang bahru exit, suspect is trying to slot in cashcard then lost balance, moreover it was a wet morning. he got up immediately to pick up his bike so I didn't slow down too long to observe if he needed help.

 

on my way back from sch met one @!#*$& female driver in a black Honda Fit/Jazz on the highway. Was travelling along lane 3 before PIE --> Changi well before Paya lebar exit when said moron suddenly cut in from lane 2. Yes, while she did signal, but signaling + turning at the same time + without checking blindspot might as well don't signal right??!!! blasted my horn to let her know I was beside her, she saw me and she still kept cutting in, at that moment I really felt like punching her side mirror since she doesn't even use them. In the end just told myself to keep calm, overtook her, looked back and gave her the finger. Observed her for awhile after I moved to lane 2, that queen of the road then pulled the same stunt on a silver Toyota while cutting into lane 4 right before going into paya lebar exit... Bloody road hazard... not being a sexist but the driving reputation of the kinder gender already not so good, this kinda driver just reinforces it...

 

To the said moron, I understand 6pm+ after getting off work on a monday people just wanna get home fast, but not at the expense of endangering someone's else life right...

Similar experience at Tampines. Was with pillion. Horned at driver and gave a ' What do you think you are doing?!' She backed away. I slowed down as I was reaching a traffic junction that was about to turn red. From my mirror can see the driver was actually slowing down so much to avoid being beside me probably scared I will confront her. Lights turned green and can still see the car moving really slow.

i think most onli check their rears when they wan to change lane or do some turns , plus their head too heavy to turn .

Why is it that certain drivers feel they have the right of way over motorcycles, and can bully motorcyclists around? *It might not be a majority, but definitely a noticeable number.

 

Today just took the cake though. Was riding to work, going down Scotts, and an A4 cuts me off. A little ticked, but whatever. Since I'm turning left, went into the next lane. I'm almost abreast with at the driver's window, he thinks he can cut into me.... Seriously? I'm well within the lane, near the arrow, and this driver thinks he can push me like that? So I just kept my line, stayed at 45-50ish, looked at him and shook my head. He keeps trying to crowd me, so I honk, look at him again, hard, and try to keep my bike in front.

 

So, he then proceeds to turn into me, and hits my bike, pushing the bike sideways. How does anybody think they can do something like that. And he honks at me when I slow down and look back at him. What the hell!?

 

Stopped my bike, thinking to look at any damage (probably should've moved it to the side of the road), and he continues to honk at me. Man, that seriously pissed me off, and I stood in front of his car for like a minute yelling at him to try to get it through his thick skull that he tagged me, esp since it could've been a whole lot worse if I'd not been able to keep my bike upright. Guy couldn't have cared less, just yelling that I should move and even tried to drive through me. What the hell. Eventually, I just gave up and he drove off without even tryin to look at what he did. Thankfully no damage to my bike, but seriously, what the hell.

 

Could've I given way? Possibly, but I was well within the lane, with an established position. How can any driver not consider it to be my right of way? Bet if I was in a car, would've never tried nonsense like that. Is there a general view of motorcyclists as second rate citizens or something?!? And it's not like it is a small bike, the M400 looks just like it's bigger Monster cousins.

 

 

Bah, had to get that off my chest.

 

First, the reality is that you are exposed and he is in a cage. Staying alive is more important than anything else. If he insists on cutting your lane even after honking, I think you should just give way to this madman. You may have the right of way, but it means nothing if you get hurt.

 

Second, since you managed to stop him, you should have called the police immediately. Yelling at him achieves nothing and may even put you in a bad light (for road rage). Let the police deal with him. Unfortunately, you allowed this criminal to get away scott-free and ready to hit another biker possible to the grave.

 

It's a sad day for motorcycling.

 

EDIT: I don't mean to sound harsh to the victim of the incident. I just don't want people here to get all worked up and start screaming "I'll punch the driver's teeth out" kind of things. I myself have experience the same madness on the expressway. Can you imagine a relatively small car (Alfa Romeo convertible) nudging a big, imposing sports tourer with side boxes? I was also wearing full face, jacket, gloves and boots - a total "I am a serious biker don't mess with me" look. Some drivers are simply mad. AVOID THEM.

On the contrary, you should be thankful it was a timid female driver. It could easily have been an aggressive Ah Beng who would have tailed you and made the rest of your trip hell.

Its not so much so to count the lucky stars that it wasnt an aggressive Ah Beng that was behind the wheel. Its to send a message that such irrational behaviour might have caused an accident an unwanted injuries.

I was making a turn pickin up my speed as in next traffic light is red so I pick up my speed as per normal than signal to right change lane out of sudden this car No.skj 6553z horn @ me. I check back wth u horn @ me in font is red how to go fast. nvm I stop in font waiting to look @ who is e idiot driver. he was speeding when I look @ him than he show his smelly middle finger. than I du lan I pick up my speed take over him show him back. Just a read on how it is possible that drivers may not see you, even if they do a quick check of their blind spot. Or even if they seem to be glancing at you.

 

They may know to check the blind spot but if not done correctly or properly, they may still miss out on seeing the biker.

 

Bottom line is when your eyes are in motion, they switch off. So even if you sweep across from point A to b, you won't see what is in between.

 

Accept that you may be hard to spot and ride as such.

 

End of the day, may all have a safe ride. =)

As in the video right after this post of yours, you can see that given the scenario of both biker and driver being aggressive, the rider will always be the sheep. We're lucky if a driver who has made a mistake apologizes, or backs off and hide, or even act blur out of embarrassment.

 

If you provoke the wrong lion, you might just end up with broken limbs, a wrecked bike, and maybe lose your dream job all over again and have an additional chip on your shoulder.

 

Better just play safe and learn to let it go.
