Bikers who can't lane split, shouldn't really stay on the lines, especially between Lanes 1 & 2. You're just holding up the world.

Either go to Lane 3/4 or get in line with the cars.

is lane splitting mean travelling at 80-100km/h between cars like those Malaysian cup riders?

I think what he means is that if you're not comfortable doing that, don't stay in lane 1.5 (between 1 & 2). You'll be holding up riders coming up behind who are willing to take that risk. Holding back a trail of bikes makes it dangerous for everyone.

No one's asking anyone to split at those speeds. Don't want? either go between lane 2&3 or stay comfortably in a lane with the cars. Nobody's holding a gun to anybody's head to lanesplit. And if someone is travelling between 1&2 at the same speed as the cars then better off in a lane anyway. The drivers may fail to note movement (note I say movement, no object) in the mirrors and just lane change without consideration. If one is moving faster than them, they may see the movement in the mirrors.

I do do that at times, split between lane 1&2 when traffic is steadily chugging along with no big empty pockets. Moving slightly faster than surrounding traffic. If I see headlights coming up my arse, I just move over between cars, let the fella through then back behind. Nothing difficult about that. No ego to defend.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

I agree with your last paragraph. If you see someone coming fast behind you, just move in and give way. Some will acknowledge by raising up their palms as a way of saying thanks. I got hold up behind a super 4 with ultra wide scrambler handlebars before along a PIE jam. It's pretty frustrating when you know the gap is big enough but because of the super 4 owner's fond of off road bars and refusing to give way to others, you and other bikes get held up.

rien d'autre que le max.

In this case I'll honk the bugger. Some riders are just selfish when riding. While trail of bikes behind them they still take their own sweet time.

Yes ride at your own pace but if your pace is much slower than others, then please let others through...

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...

Encountered that before too. Probably because the fellow think my small cc bike is slower than his. Instead I slowed down and moved to in between 2 and 3 when I had the opportunity. Next thing is I am ahead of him. Did occur in my mind of hovering ahead of him to let him have a taste of his own medicine but figured it would be a waste of time. So I just went on my way to my destination.

It's a fallacy for some riders to think that big bikes can always split faster.

Small bikes have an easier time. But it's all on the rider to decide.

Ultimately the rule applies, if you're not splitting fast enough, move aside momentarily, let the faster rider through, then get back and continue on your pace.

No one's asking you to split faster that you're comfortable with.

tonite while riding at the stretch of road at brickland road off chua chu kang, i was riding about 50km/hr going toward bukit batok. from about 100metres i saw this van turnng right towards a minor road. i thought it was stopping waiting for the traffic light to turn to his favour and as i approached i noticed something not right. I REALLY THOUGHT HE WOULD WAIT. he didnt stop. i couldnt brake in time. i pressed on my petrol and my wife got brushed by the driver side door but i managed to proceed. i stopped the bike and decide to go after him. but the traffic was against me. it was awhile before i amanged to catch up to him. i confronted him at Esso. I asked him why he kept going. ASked him if i was knocked down would he helped me. because when we nearly hit, i kept horning him to stop but he kept going.

he said , luckily NOTHING happened. He was so casual like nothing happened and thats when i blow my top off by saying the f word. then his wife came over and tell me actually he is supposed to go for operation for his eyes and cannot see properly. wahhh. the more i blew off. I said then he shouldnt be drivinng.

I am wondering !!!!!! at that stretch of road TP put 2 boards about 2 incident where they have not found any witness. 1 was since june 2014 another one near the chinses temple. i wonder ??? related???

to ALL watch out for this van because the driver need operation for his eyes and cannot see in the night but yet still drivingPhoto0010 (2).jpg

Be socially responsible... Unfortunately Singapore has become a place where everyone just cares about nothing but themselves. Local or foreigner alike... Stay here for too long u will immerse into the culture of "Kia Su"... And in the end? You simply lose yourselves...

So... What have u lost today?

Agree... I always "Siam" when I see a bike coming behind...

Usually I'm happy to be at the last of the "dragon"

There is no need to somewhat censor the number plate. Being that irresponsible the fellow deserves to be exposed for all to see. Thankfully you and your wife are safe and sound. Too many of these selfish people around only care about their safety but not others. Just as you would a driver parking in four bike lots for own convenience but could care less about others. :sian:

I do not mind being at the last of the dragon either. However the person in front of me better be faster than me though. Was riding yesterday and lane splitting usual. Moved to the left to allow a faster moving bike which I noticed in the mirror which was about 50m or so? Noticed the headlights getting 'brighter and brighter'. Few seconds later two TPs on bikes passed by. After which the speed of the traffic ahead suddenly dropped significantly.

its ok duo. i managed to take one picture of the plate because i didnt want to cause any more noise at the esso station. the near death / serious injury incident has made me realised i should get that long awaited/discussed camera. i really how in the world i manage to escape any serious injury. the front of the van was just inches away from me.trust me if i had video , i would surely put it up.

This is the part of "following the law" that's sweet for me... especially if some car has just sped past me and drove like a maniac...

Got tailgated by a driver in silver 2.0L honda civic... Car has a TEIN sign.

Was travelling at 95kmh (6k rpm for fuel consumption) on lane 1 with a car in front of me, this tailgater came to less than 2meters behind me... i could see his face in my mirror. Couldn't move out as there were too many lorries on my left. Waiting till there's a slot and went to lane 2... moron followed me out to lane 2 and finally i gave up lane splited away in between land 2-3... after that i saw him going back to lane 1 to tail gate another kup... and yes i think its about 1 meter behind that kup...

Idiots like that should be banned from the road... all it takes is a wrong move and he's going to literally go over the bike... at the speed of 100kmh+... i know cause i was still maintaining my 95kmh and they are pulling away from me.

U wanna drive so close... do that behind a truck. i think that would work very well indeed.

This seems to be quite a common sight. When not riding and I see this I shook my head in disgust. Obviously these drivers does not ride a bike. If they do they would know that tailgating a rider would literally 'blind' the rider as what the rider would be able to see in his mirrors is nothing! It will just be bright with the lights reflecting on it. These are also those drivers that are stuck in the era when there were signs of "Motorcycles keep left" were around. These were around decades ago but hs since been removed as bikes are getting more powerful as technology advances. Also these are the divers with the mentality of "my car more expensive/bigger so must give way to me" and " I am protected by metal whereas you are covering the metal". o_O

I know how it feels as I been high beamed for being in lane 1 with traffic on the left and in front of me. Pretty much 'boxed' up. Thought of lane splitting my way out but the inconsistent of maintaining driving in the lane of the car beside makes me think twice and even thrice. And so the driver tailgating me was enjoying high beaming me. What was I supposed to do? Fly?! There is a car right in front and on the left of me. Is this driver myopic? I believe we were taught to also look far ahead when on the roads. The moment I saw an opportunity to speed away from the car I did. However it left me quite furious.

These car drivers do not even dare to tailgate a bigger vehicle. Suddenly what was taught in driving school is applied when they follow a bigger vehicle. But when you kept a safe following distance behind a bigger vehicle these drivers will cut you off then slow down forcing you to slow down because they want to suddenly apply what is taught in driving school about following a bigger vehicle. A new rule of having at least a 2B licence and actual riding experience on the roads before being allowed to take a class 3 should be implemented. That should cut down on these drivers. Perhaps that would also let them know why we ride the way we ride. For those who cannot balance on 2 wheels then too bad. Can learn how to or just get a 3 wheeled bike.

Too many such drivers... our TP should start having undercover type... and just give these people 24 point deduction for reckless driving. :cheer:

A fellow forumer was knocked down by a pregnant woman on the way to hospital. She was going in labour when it happened. Sometimes I wonder too, if not well, why drive? It's better to take taxi than to risk people's lives. Then again, why didn't the wife do the driving? I'm sure there's a 50% chance she has Class 3

Couple of days back, while driving, I saw a green harley coming up from behind, I signaled left, check blind spot, went to the middle lane, and then as the harley was going to pass me by the right most lane I signal right and prepared to go back to overtaking the vehicles in front.

Then to my pleasant surprise, the harley rider and his pillion waved a thank you. :)
