8% road tax reduction

A reply I received from LTA regarding the 8% road tax reduction which will take effect from 1 Sept 2007...

 

Thank you for your email of 22 Jun 2007.

 

As announced by the Second Minister of Finance in his FY2007 Budget

Statement, cars and motorcycles will enjoy a 8% road tax reduction from 1

Sep 2007. Details are provided in LTA's press release on 15 Feb 2007. A

copy of the said press release can be found on our website

(http://www.lta.gov.sg).

 

The LTA is presently making the necessary programming changes to our

computer system to incorporate the revised road tax rates. The changes to

the system have to be thoroughly tested before they are moved to

production. Meanwhile, before these changes are effected, the road tax

renewal notices will still reflect the road tax payable based on the

current rates.

 

For vehicles where the road tax period straddles beyond 1 Sep 2007, there

would be an overpayment of road tax for the portion of the period from 1

Sep 2007. This overpayment will be used to offset the road tax payable at

the next renewal. If the vehicle is transferred before the road tax

renewal, the overpayment can also be used to offset the transfer fees.
