Sorry (no offense to any 5-seater SUV drivers) tat I dun understand u at all. Ok for big sized guys, off-road terrain like Malaysia. I understand. I also understand MPVs for large families, mini-bus for work, but do other SUV drivers (small sized guys, ladies especially etc) drive them bcos their ego is too big for saloon cars? Ok maybe too much cash no where to spend. I'm puzzled cos I simply cannot think of any economic/environmental/practical benefit to drive SUVs on Sg roads. (Apart from personal safety at expense of others cos a lot of blind spots for small built drivers driving large SUV). Again, no offense to anyone.

Why do you need a 1.8L 6 cylinder goldwing? Why ride a 1000cc superbike that accelerates to 100km/h in 3 seconds? Why ride a hunk of metal that only makes "potato potato potato" noises?

If all our choices are based on economic/practical/economic benefits, then we will alll be riding Honda Cubs and driving Toyota Corollas.

C'mon... it's all about freedom of choice.

People I know drive SUV because it is taller than other cars and bigger tires too, so collision wise it is higher and harder to get hurt than a low car.

besides it is bao gao liao car, can on road can off road.

Most SUVs in Singapore will not even leave our borders. Those that do are very unlikely to go off road.

Let's be honest, how many drivers and bikers in Singapore (except those trained in Army) actually know how to handle a vehicle off road? Only the true enthusiasts do.

Lol they must have never seen an SUV flip over on a side-on collision before. Their CG is too damn high, not necessarily safer than sedans.

Buy a h2/ h3 and play bumper car with the other suvs.

That aside, usually aren't they usually used by families who prefer more space to carry the kids around in?

I don't drive one, and I don't fancy em on the road, but I see how n why ppl would ferry sugar-fueled kids around in those.

With the COE system, I suppose if you were really going to spend that sum of money on a car, might as well top it up a little to get something you want.

I guess it all boils down to preference. The same reason why some people will spend 15k on a 125cc bike. It's not a competition. Your money, your choices. Other people decide whether it is 'practical' or not but you decide on what you like and what you want to travel in.

Different people prioritize on different things. Some people like Ducati, some people like fast bikes, some go for size and so on. Some just want a kup that can squeeze and weave through traffic with minimal effort. Same for cars I would think.

Just to correct some misconception.

There is a world of difference between 4WD, and AWD.

Most SUVs are AWD which are designed to improve road holding rather than maneuvering off road terrains .

maybe i kenna hit by a SUV once along PIE so I'm a bit prejudiced. But my concerns are valid- they r so "high up" they can hardly see us on the road!

as a driver of high up but not suv, i find it is an advantage. driving high up makes me able to down at other riders/drivers better. infact driving a lorry which is even more way up makes us even more able to see people below but why many accident happening for lorry is because of the power of lorries. PS: i dont drive suv but my poor china car is high up

Lorry is TOO high thats why got so many blind spots and hard to see people. Hard to brake also once going fast because of the momentum due to the massive weight. So to avoid an accident its much less risky to swerve instead of brake because of ineffective brakes at speed, but the high centre of gravity means it can flip easily when doing so. Either way you're in trouble in a e-brake situation. So the point is, slow down if you're driving a lorry.

i agree with zalk and i think all SUVs should also drive slowly too as their AWD/4WD power is too dangerous

Sorry do u mind explaining AWD and 4WD pls?

Maybe the conclusion is that we (no particular person referred) should be higher to be able to see what goes around us abit clearer. But not too tall that we can't see what happening right under our noses (e.g. lorries)

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...
