It means you'll have to switch to reserve once the petrol in your main tank runs out. This also informs you that you'll have to go top up your petrol soon.

Without the reserve, you can only guess how much petrol is left. Once you are dry including reserve, there's no way you can start your bike at all and would have to either push or have it towed to the nearest petrol station to fill it up.

Spark Plug is to ignite the fuel/air mixture which then combusts in your engine chamber, driving the pistons of the engine which in turn produces the power to move your bike.

as phantom TA200, and TA150 does not have a fuel guage nor a low-fuel indicator ...

so the reserve tank is there ...

when the normal tank is empty, u switch to use the fuel from the reserve tank ...

2.7l should last u anyway in singapore to find a petrol station ...

not sure how it look like inside the bike ...

as for the spark plug .. as the name suggest, it gives the spark for the combustion of the fuel ...

u install side boxes to protect you in case of a crash?!

that's so weird...anyway sideboxes affect stability when you are cornering...your handlebars shake like loco and you have to know how and when to shift your weight accordingly.

haha no la bro, i installed side boxes to dump all my barang barang... not to protect from crash ;) that's just incidental

just got tired of having to carry my helmet with me everywhere i go...very tin tei

i dunno about the cornering... seems pretty much the same to me actually. maybe cos my side boxes are smaller and not the huge ones like kev1143

1. does a rusty tank affect my engine? becoz my mechanic installed a petrol filter on the line goin to the engine..n it has slight leakage. n i pump JB oil..he says JB oil is vv dirty. if i dun put the filter is it ok? or should i 'wash' my fuel tank?

2. i did full service n change a piston at $180. including changin gasket, oil seal, spark plug, washin of cab. n exhaust pipe..reasonable?

3.my friend exhaust pipe has black thick oil drippin out..wats up man...?

3.i live in jurong west..would like to meet ppl around tat area in case i need help on some issues of my bike..

thx!

1. Does a rusty tank affect my engine?

Yes, it will effect the performance.

2. My mechanic installed a petrol filter on the line goin to the engine..n it has slight leakage.

Installing the filter is alrite, if it leak mean that the fitting of the tube size is different or the filter itself is damage. Try to change another one. Petrol is not cheap.

3. I pump JB oil..he says JB oil is vv dirty. if i dun put the filter is it ok? or should i 'wash' my fuel tank?

Its not dirty, its juz that the grade (additive & quality) are different & it varies from country’s Authority act & specification.

4. i did full service n change a piston at $180. Including; changing gasket, oil seal, spark plug, washing of cab. n exhaust pipe. Reasonable?

If the servicing reduce your problem of course its reasonable. The Service Quality of the work shop is very important, if it cost you $100 for the same part but the assembly make you return again & again, guess the extra cost & time wasted cost more.

The price do sound reasonable to me.

5. My friend exhaust pipe has black thick oil drippin out..wats up man...?

The Petrol tuning maybe on the high side (unburned petrol). Technical term: too rich.

BTW 2 stroke bike will be more prompt to have such issue as 2T too rich (Petrol is more combustible then 2T).

Try to mix ard with other member, you will learn allot from them. You can keep yourself busy by looking into topic with outing & join them if your schedule is available.

You got to turn a knob located at the left beneath the fuel tank.

Basically it just "cuts away" 2.7l from your main tank.

thanks man.i get it now!cheers!

please consider very very carefully and do keep all your options open....don't die die want a phantom because you may be dissatisfied with its lack of power or some other short coming in the future.

B4 i got myself a ride i also told myself i wanted a phantom to relax in...that I wouldn't be using top speed anyway etc...and now I'm glad a phantom wasn't my 1st bike. Remember, the 1st few months of riding, 90km/h will feel like it's damn fast, and you'll feel that you won't max out a Phantom ever, but that will change as you go down the road, trust me. Everyone goes faster than that on the road every now and then.

People like weiz and hart (correct me if i misquoted you guys) have also told me that they can't wait to change bike because they feel the machine limits them.

So please please please consider again and again as you have plenty of time. I'm not discouraging u from taking a phantom. I'm discouraging you from jumping to a premature decision; you'll save a load of cash if you get a bike that ultimately suits your riding style as you develop, and not one that turns out to be a machine that inhibits you and you're unhappy with it and change a bike, wasting money.

1996 - 1999 ~ Honda CBR400RRK Hurricane

2005 - 2006 ~ Honda TA150 Phantom

Bad points?

Must jaga EO.

Low ground clearance

Lousy top-end

Slow pick-up

Lots of vibration (as with many other 2b bikes)

Lots of metal parts to take care. Rusty will look very ugly.

Stock tires have lousy grip (according to a lot of people. I still find them ok)

Personally, I think the brakes are crap. (also probably cos I've ridden bikes with double disc and ABS)
