Yo bro, just to add the very importance of sun in spray painting.. especially during lacquering part.. no sun = milky lacquer .. and for those who are trying it out first time,, u might wanna just test it on an old helmet first to get the hang of it... spray pressure and distance to spray is also very critical.. spray too far..wasting paint... spray too near.. blotches here n there.. so to avoid heartache on the fairings... khekh.. might wanna try it out on an old helmet first..khkeheke..

btw, i must say its quite a rewarding feeling to have able to spray your own bike. however, it must not be a rush job.. trying to finish up in a day would only aggravate the quality as we tend to rush thru the coatings...

Just offering my two cents to those whu wanna try it out.. :)

below is my bike after resprayed it after an accident.. and thankfully, the paint is still the same until now.. cheers!

you spray it your self?

using those nipon spray?

well.. i dun think it matters whether how fast or how slow u sand.. afterall the objective is to smoothen the surface and that all that matters.. theres no other way to do it.. khke unless u got a buffing machine.. :)

There is sign of crack marks appearing around the fairing plate any remedy? I was told to wax it, but don't think it will work.

Normally cracks indicate that the paint is too thick..Either its not dry yet and you put on another coatin..And another..So when it dries up it will form a crack..When did you paint it? If you just painted it then cover it with more paint..Ahaha..If not then still must cover with more paint after you've sand it smooth..After its really really really dry..And I do mean really dry..Wax it so it will last a bit longer..

Yeah.. finally got the rj spray.... and can start anytime.. but i will be spraying on a used helmet first.. and regarding the step is it:

1) Sand the bike to remove paint (sandpaper grit rating?)

2) Wet sand using fine grid sandpaper(sandpaper grit rating?)

3) Clean the bike with isopropyl alcohol

4) Spray 3 coats of primer, drying each layer

5) Spray few coats of desired colour

6) Wet sand using fine grid(sandpaper grit rating?)

7) Spray lacquer, not waiting more than 15mins between coat

8) Use rubbing compound to bring out shine

9) Polish using car wax

do i need to sand inbetween those primer, color coating?(sandpaper grit rating?)

After going thru some articles, I think this is the proper way:

1) Wet sand the bike using 400 grid sandpaper to remove paint

2) Wet sand using 1500 grid sandpaper to reduce deep scratch

3) Clean the bike with isopropyl alcohol

4) Spray 3 coats of primer, drying each layer

5) Let primer dry completely

6) Wet sand lightly using 1500 grid to smoothen primer surface but roughen texture

7) Clean the primer surface with water and cloth then dry. No alcohol.

8) Spray 3 coats of desired colour, letting each coat dry at least 10mins (Pylox instruction) before another coat.

9) Let dry for at least 1 day (Depending on paint brand. Some brand have to spray lacquer before paint dries. For such brand like Plasti-Kote, skip from step 8 to step 13)

10) Very lightly wet sand using fine grid (Colour wun drop cos ur sanding very lightly to roughen the texture.)

11) Clean the bike with water only to remove the paint powder. No alcohol as it destroy the paint. Dry completely

13) Spray 4 coat lacquer, not waiting more than 15mins between coat

14) Let dry for at least 3 days because lacquer hard to dry

15) Sand the lacquer surface very lightly using 2000 grid

16) Use rubbing compound to bring out shine

17) Polish using car wax

This should be quite detailed steps after consolidating from different sources.

Sprayed my bike. Alot of mistakes but worth it cos learned alot.

Damn important to sand the primer before paint and sand the paint before lacquer. Makes the lacquer mirror smooth and reflective. If not it will look like alot of pimple. I noticed that 4 coats of lacquer is not really enough. I find that to make the lacqer look really thick and glossy you have to wait until the lacquer dry for 2 days then respray. It will look really thick and nice. Then use rubbing compound. I bought the Formula 1 rubbing compound at IMM DIY Homefix. $7 a bottle only and clear coat safe.

Sand the paint? Maybe you did sprayed it evenly..Will need lots of lacquer for it to be shiny..Care to post the end product?

I sprayed it ok but after it dries it definitely still have little small pimples. I sprayed many many layers then use 1500 sandpaper and wet sand under running tap till u feel the paint is really smooth. Now I have to remove some parts of the lacquer because I did not sand certain area and the lacquer turns out pimply. The reason y I spray many layers is because I sprayed my bike white. Super hard to cover the grey primer. I used at least 8 cans to complete my Wave. Really tiring... Dark colour easier to spray. I am now waiting for the lacquer to really cure then rub it. Paiseh to post end result leh cos 1st timer really bad job hehe...

no nid directly under sun n spray.. just spray n after tt leave it in sun to "tanned" actually all the paint wont actually turned out matt de.. if u actually sprayed it with reasonably thick layer.. it will still be smooth even without lacquar.. but with it will have a better shinny effect la..

don87: any WU JIN DIAN or HOMEFIX.. but homefix will certainly cost more..

a pic of my bike with DIY spray with help of some friends.. thanks to them alot...
