Hi all

Just wondering can anyone advice me on what are the symptoms of clutch plate problems? As i am facing some difficulties in getting into neutral gear or second gear and above during standstill (infact i can't even kick up as the gear lever becomes so tight), while moving, there's no problems at all and everything is smooth. Someone told me it could be clucth plate problems, so i am wondering if anyone could share any advice before getting lost and cheated in a bike shop

Thanks everyone for your time

Bro,

Are you riding a chianed bike? If you are, please check the tension of you chain first b4 you do anything on the clutch. Some advise on clutch plate problem. You can try it on a long slope. If your noise of you engine is very loud, but don't seem to be picking up any speed, there will be problem with your clutch plate.

I also think I wanna change clutch plates. However, I would like to buy the parts from a supplier first then ask my mechanic to do for me. Therefore I would like to ask what is the difference between clutch plates and pads? I know they work hand in hand rite? I searched the forum for clutch plates got alot but then theres no threads on clutch pads. So I dunno whether I should get the plates or both the plates and pads. How to tell if the pads need changing? Anyway RXZ clutch plates all the same regardless of old or catalyser model right? How many are there? 6 ar?

Shd be 6 pieces for clutch plates... in my opinion, ur problem of having a tight gear shifter is more of an engine oil problem.. try changing ur engine oil.

Check the fundamental things first before you move to other possibilities, I would suggest you check your clutch level free play, adjust it to the correct free play and try again :thumb:

Bro,

There are only clutch plates and no clutch pads.

I think he is referring to friction plates.

top row are steel plates

bottom row are fiber/friction plates (some high performance type made from sintered material)

Usually, we only need to replace the fiber/friction plates. Steel plates life are longer and can be reuse unless they are burnt/scorch (overheated), warped or wear beyond the service limit stated by the manufacturer.

depend on the bike you riding.

On average, every three days, 1 motorcyclist or a pillion die or is seriously injured in a traffic accident. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous enough. Riding recklessly is Suicidal.

adjust clutch cable first if cannot then i guess its the plate,

1. trouble kicking to neutral gear

2. when kick up,esp in 1st to 2nd or 2nd to third, gear drops back suddenly making ur balls go to throat.

change clutch plate is the answer for above problems. make sure choose original plates. and get a reliable mech eventhough its gonna be a lil more lighter for ur pocket. unless u want to travel at gear 1 or 2 all the way..please make sure u get ur clutch problems solved completely with quality parts and workmanship to last u a long time.

hmm.... I also have this issue. well i just change the engine oil last month and then this problem surface. Th gear is difficult to engage on standstill only. when moving everything is alright.

when at standstill the gear become very stiff and almost impossible to engage neutral. need to roll the bike a bit forward to engage the neutral. Or otherwise i off the engine and then kick into neutral effortlessly.

is it the chain?? (well it has been very loose, despite just tighten)

clutch cable?

or clutch plate?

intend to go down to motorshop, but would like to know what us wrong before i am CARROTED!! hahahaha

usually for it to happen, it's the rider who often throw a false neutral suddenly always.

Hard to kick neutral

- always ensure clutch lever freeplay is enough, this is almost certainly the case for cable-operated clutch over a long period of riding time (vibration). espcecially so if you haven adjusted ur clutch in a long time.

- change EO

During cruising mode, give it more throttle, if you feel the revs go up but the speed remains about the same, it's like the clutch is slipping.

- Change friction plates, check clutch basket for notches and wear also.

Bro. It's very hard to shift up gears when u're at standstill. Try moving ur bike forward and backward when u're standstill. Gears have different ratios, therefore different distances between them. So when u're at standstill u can't kick to different gears most of the time because... they're not in line.
