Hi guys, need some info. I'm planning a solo ride up north to Golden Triangle. On the way back, I would like to place my bike on the train down from Chiang Mai to Bangkok or possibly Hatyai. I'm wondering do the train services frpm Xhiang Mai accepts my Hayabusa considering the bike is quite heavy and bulky...it's good if my Hayabusa can fit in the train just in case I'm tired goin back to Singapore.

Thanks guys.

Yes. It's possible. But be prepared to pay > S$100 for each train ride as there is plenty of tips to be pay to ppl that you come into contact at the train station. Insist that the bike is on the same train as the passenger. Do bear in mind likelihood there will be some scratches on the bike due to handling issue.

Have fun.

Okie thanks alot for the info, appreciate it.

I better bring some heavy duty straps for added protection.

But do u guys know what's the market rate for tipping those men helping to load unload the bike.....will 200-300 baht be sufficient for each guy helping...

Thanks.

It's up to your bargaining skill. Those ppl will try to ask alot. The key people to me, are the guy at the train station that speak English (to help you do translation at the train station) & the train master.

I've done once with some friends from Hat Yai to Bangkok. Being first time, we give whatever amount these ppl asked.

We ended up with a front carriage all by ourselves (3 bikers) for the journey.

Okie thanks to sv650 and papabread79 for the info; I will start planning soon.

Will try to ride to and fro if can, train is last resort just in case I'm super shag.

I might have to read and research the other threads to find a way to navigate n bypass bangkok to go up north since they don't allow bikes on their highway.

Nevertheless, thanks for the info guys.

This is part of my ride North previously.

Can use Highway 9 on outskirt of Bangkok (left side). No toll and no jam.

Can take R35 to reach HW9 also.

Hope it helps.

Why use train service since you're riding.

if you insist I'll suggest you train from central to southern or the otherway round, road condition at this route is severely terrible after Chumphon.

Whereas central to northern has got no issues on the road except little further. Skirting perimeter of BKK ain't difficult.

I have remarked all the routes I've taken on 1st posting of my 2013 northern Thailand ride.

refer to 3rd day of the route nos.

It's not the destination we conquered but ourselves.

Hi Sw9000, I shall study the route you took, tha ks for the info, very useful. I wouldn't want to get stuck in Bangkok.

Simon, thanks...I read ur thread above, nice one. Actually, my 1st option is to ride to n fro..the train service is just a Plan B just incase I'm (touch wood) injured or fatigue sets in or somethings unexpected set in...need to have a back up plan. But I saw ur trip, inspired by it.

Also I won't be alone haha, my wife insists I bring her along, she just told me.
