The servicing is the same as other 4 cylinder bikes.

1. Tuning of carb + washing of carb - $42

2. Spark plugs $12(for a good one) x 4 = $48

3. Eng oil $15 x4 = $60

4. Gasket $21.

All prices from suzuki agent workshop Guan Hoe. Take a super 4 for a tune, u will find that they charge $80++

spark plugs and eng oil same pricing. Gasket is $40+

GSX engine is as reliable as CBR400, if not better. It is said to be a problem bike becoz ppl tend to whack the bike. It can hit red rev region easily with no restriction. CBR CANT. the outlook lose to CBR that i admit. But performance in terms of mid range to top speed is on par. Pick up loses to CBR becoz its heavier.

Rev the mid range to about 14k rpm u feel high. CBR, so so~ the sound it produces is not as agressive as GSX.

U really have to find a good gsx that is in good condition and u will fall in love with it. often, this is the most difficult thing. even for CBR, it has its own problem. however, a bike can be considered a problem bike ONLY if the problem persists after servicing it over and over again.

So, any 10-year old bike will have the same problem of perishable parts.

Most importantly, its cheap and powerful. get it for 2A den go for class 2. U wont lose much.

No more regrets.

If you can I would advise waiting an extra year, saving as much as possible and going straight to the CBR600. Most of the 400's are outdated and overpriced as the don't really make them any more. This is Singapore fault for not upgrading the class system.

in my opinion it should be something like...

2b > 250cc (with power to weight restriction)

2a > 650cc

2 above 650cc...

or maybe throw in a 6-12 months probationary period for 125cc

If you want a CBR600 for pure track then the 600RR is the bike to buy. If you want something a little more compromising and good for all things then the F4 or f4i is the bike to get. This is a great bike on the road or track and is comfortable enough for touring. The f3 and below are a bit dated now. I sold my CBR600F3 for about 4k last year. I've seen some f4's (non-EFI) going for around 6k and F4i's from 8k up. 600RR's seem to be above 12k still.

The ZXR400 is great but you need to find a source for parts outside of Singapore. This is only because Evershine (local Kawa importers) are Muthafarkers! The only good thing is you ccn get the bike pretty cheap in sg because it's not very popular. Great little track bike and lots of mod parts avail from Japan. I know a guy who owns two and races in the 400cc class in Malaysia at Pg/Sepang etc.

RS250> Aprilia have stopped making parts. these bikes have LOADS of power and require skill to control but they handle like a dream. Power to weight is almost equivalent to a 600. Old ones are CHEAp now but they could cost you a fortune in repairs. Better not to risk it in my opinion. My RS125 has cost me too much already. The only thing I can say is it corners like a dream though and instills ALOT of confidence. Great brakes also for a 125.

CBR400/RVF400/NSRPGM4 Way overpriced in Singapore for their age in my opinion. Again due to the stupid class system and the fact that most bikes have stoppped making 400's and 250 2 strokes (250 commuter bikes still common)

GXR400... Good cheap bike but a bit on the old side and hard to find a good model. Pay $1000 or less and keep another 1k or more for replacing worn bits and this bike could serve you well and still run sub 2min times at PG with a little practise. Best value for money 2a bike. Kinda looking out for one myself.

The other 600 to consider is an R6. Awesome bike but still holding their value well in Singapore. Cheapest I've seen 2nd hand is about 8k for a y2k model.

Hope this helps a little,

Cheers,

Chris

was tinking of juz waiting till my class2 n get a cbr600..but im small.. 1.61m 48kg.

so i was planning to get a 400cc bike instead n stick with it..tats y.. haha.. so im still at lost of wat bike to pick..my priorities will b the cheap maintenance n availability of parts in singapore n malaysia. i dun really mind the outlook of the bike cos can costomise it.

wah!! headache ah..cbr150 is a great bike which dun give heartaches and problems..in terms or reliability, cheap maintenance n avalability of parts, which 2a sportsbike comes close to the cbr150??

the s4 would b a good choice but i hav a passion for sportsbikes.

WOW... you are small and light which is a good thing. I'm at the other end of the scale at 1.84m and about 82kgs (currently, it fluctuates +-4kgs =p). I still the the R6 is a great bike for smaller riders.

I feel VERY cramped on any of the new gen sports bikes, 600cc or 1000cc.

I do think the RVF is a very nice bike for smaller riders though. But not cheap!

hi noti_8_boi, we are under the same boat... last late night I went for a ride along ECP to airport and airport to loyang towards Changi village... sudden the gear couldn't engaged but the cluck is alright not losse. The problem here is when moving off from gear 1 could kick to gear 2...I was so panic.... my fz advised to move off from gear 2... thats helped so I carried on riding to 3rd, 4th, 5th but can't kick the gears down when stopping... If change the engine oil does it help back to normal? Can anyone here advise? Appreciate!...so sick got to work by bus..

noti_8_boi> When I read the first part of your post I though it sounds horribly like a ring seizure to me. That's a little how my RS125 felt when the engine seized. I hope for your sake this is not the case. I'd be amazed if it was coz 4 strokes are less prone to such problems. When is the last time you changed the oil? did you notice the engine temperature at the time?

So is it running normally now? maybe it could be some water or dirt in your fuel system or something strange like that. So after the last time you got it started it's running normally now?

It could also be electrical issues. A little hard to troubleshoot.

Jileen. I once had this problem on my Z1000. I think the shifter linkage might have come loose and now there is an obstruction when you try to shift in one direction. On my Z1000 I was in a state of panic but on careful inspection I realized what was wrong and tightened up the shift linkage and it was back to normal. I'll have a look at my linkage later and see if a similar problem can happen with the CBR.

By the way, where do you guys service your bikes?

I think if you only bought the bike a month ago sending it back to the shop is probably the best idea.

Anyway, if it's the issue I stated it takes about two minutes with some tools to fix. But it could be something else for all I know.
