Ok.

Here's the thing.

My boss configured a daily differential backup to run daily at 11pm.

Every morning, I go in to see the status and I get a Failed Backup status. But the data appears to have been backed up successfully.

The error logged is:

error: e000feb9 - The NDMP subsystem reports that a request cannot be processed because it is in the wrong state to service the request.

The stats show no hardware error and normal soft errors, indicating all data has been backed up properly. But I'll get a failed status.

I've checked on Symantec KB & the net. Not very helpful.

I was told to make sure the agents are running on Local System (Admin) account & to ensure port 10000 is clear.

Both appear to be in order. Yet I still get this problem.

Anyone has experienced it and got it resolved?

got this off from the net. I have nvr encouter this issue.

Try callin veritas for help

Kindly verify the following to resolve the issue.

- Ensure that the Remote Agent service is running under Local System account on the Media Server and the Remote Server

- Ensure that Port 1000 is not being used by other application on the Remote System

You can verify the same by using the following command

netstat -a

I've mentioned that earlier.

Its port 10000, not 1000.

I've checked. Its clear. Local system account (Admin) is used for the agents.

I dun have a Symantec forums account. Guess I have to create one and start pa-trolling there.

Any other Sys admins qualified in Backup Exec (or its NetBackup equivalent) that can help me?

Try re-creating the differential backup job again.

Have you tried restoring the backup?

Appears on the log sometimes does not reflect actual physical backup.

Review your log.

If the backu-p should start at 11pm, at what time did the error surface? There shouldn't be a large lapse of time between the error occuring and that slated 11pm diff. back-u-p

If yes, the problem maybe as simple as server lag. But feel free to say I'm digressing...just my 2¢ though :goodluck:
