Look at these adverts : http://www.singaporebikes.com/used_bikes/27699/harley_davidson_other_harley_davidson_models/ and http://www.singaporebikes.com/used_bikes/27698/harley_davidson_other_harley_davidson_models/ and http://www.singaporebikes.com/used_bikes/27696/harley_davidson_sportster_xl_883l/ and http://www.singaporebikes.com/used_bikes/27693/yamaha_vmax/ obviously these photos were taken in another country. i doubt these bikes are 3 years or less , so its nearly impossible to bring them here and be sold because singapore only allows bikes athat are 3 years young to be brought in for sale

Yeah I agree... this is very annoying when I'm seriously looking for a bike and want to get a picture of how the market is. These spam ads are just bs!

I pretended to be interested in one of the suspicious bikes adds and this is the reply by e-mail. Btw... not even my mail wanted to let it through the filter :-)

"Hi,

The price is right: SGD$ 9000

The bike is in excellent condition, like new. All the documents are in order, ready to make the transfer.

I am selling the bike because I recently got promoted and moved with my family in Copenhagen, Denmark. We brought the bike with us, wanting to registered it in Denmark,

but this proved impossible because the bike is registered in Singapore. The bike is in Denmark.

This is the reason why I'm selling the bike and so cheap. IT'S A DEAL.

The delivery of the bike to your location will be made in 10 days with a international shipping company.

The costs for the shipping to your house and for the ownership transfer will be paid by me.

The bike will come with all the documents to perform the ownership transfer at the Land Transport Authority. An agent of the shipping company has power of attorney to

make, sign and finalize all the papers for the transfer, in my name.

Of course you can choose not to buy it if you do not like what you see.

If the bike is not as presented, would be within your rights to refuse the deal.

The payment of the bike will be made after the ownership transfer is completed, but as you can understand I need be sure that you have the money available.

Additionally, you have a day to take it to a mechanic to check the condition of the bike.

If you are interested I will need your name, address, phone and your confirmacion that you have the money ready, because I have a couple of more interested buyers.

Thanks, Nicholas"

I also got this same email. When I feel suspicious and ask for few more photos and LTA web registration record (log card), there was no more reply then.

Just sharing, when I posted my Ducati for sales about two years back, an ang mo emailed me regarding his interest in the bike.

He mentioned that he is an oceanic engineer and was stationed off shore. He offered $4k above of my asking price and said that

he will wired the money to me - however (it started to smell fishy) he will need to sent courier to my place within three working days

to dismantle and crate the bike for shipping/export to his country.

The following day, he requested me to transfer $USD500 to XXX account and updated that 50% of the asking price had been wired.

(I did not replied as it was a clear scam).

Two days later, he emailed me - requested for an update and response.

Another two days later, the "buyer" sent an angry email stating that the money that he sent was stuck at the courier service company

as the vehicle had not been collected. He commented that i will "regret" and will bring the matter up to the FBI for investigation.

About a week later, guess what - I received an email from FBI!!!??? WTF I almost laughed my pant off!!! Hey do take note that the

email is damn convincing, with case number and report detail that demand immediate settlement else will risk prosecution by Federal

Authority (WTF they dun have any jurisdiction here).

Brothers here please note that these Scamer posed as BUYER as well as SELLER - one thing that will not change in their style is the

way they ask for money first (Scamer if you are reading this -m I right?). Bank transfer, Western Union etc will not be traceable, even if

the transaction is trackable, it is probably shove up with some offshore bank whereby there is no chance of recovery.

Some of the thing that You can do to prevent these are:

1) Be observant: from those sales pix; there are no number plates.

2) Obtain the engine numbers, chassis number and cross check with LTA with the "claimed" number plate.

3) If the buyer/seller play hard ball, ask him/her to assign a local representative to make payment on cash term.

4) Refrain any transaction with oversea buyer/seller to eliminate risk.

Hope it helps =)

Basically, do not accept PayPal under any circumstances if you're selling your bike.

The more elaborate scams involve actually paying you via PayPal. You will be able to see the amount in your PayPal account when you log in. The seller will send a sum larger than that you all agreed on, with the additional sum being the "shipping charges to be sent to their shipping agent". They will then require you to wire the sum to the "agent" via Western Union. After which, there will be no news from the shipping agent.

Subsequently, the "buyer" will file a chargeback request through their CC company against PayPal, claiming that the item was not shipped to them and that YOU are the scammer. PayPal will debit funds against your account to reimburse the credit card company which has paid back the "buyer" for the entire sum + fees for resolving the dispute.

You will lose out on the "shipping fee" as well as the PayPal administrative fees.

Of course, you can say that once you have received the payment in your PayPal account, that you withdraw it to your bank immediately. However, what PayPal can do, e.g. charge your linked card/account under their T&Cs I do not know. Naturally, if you empty your bank account, there is nothing that they can charge against. However if you have a credit card linked to your PayPal account, they can still debit against that, and you may wind up paying interest if you don't clear your CC bills. Ultimately, if you have no CC tied to PayPal / cancelled your CC / closed your bank account, who knows whether your credit rating with the bank will get affected or not, could make life difficult if you ever need a bank loan etc.

End of the day, moral of the story is: Deal with 100% cash at LTA in person only.

@Tachnicolour, hey bro how are you? Been a while!

Yup I totally agreed with ya. The crap PayPal system have a "retractable" payment system which by it was

designed to "protect" buyers. Thus payment made will be on hold status in your bank account (can see cannot touch)

till 3-5 working days later. This has become a Serious Issues as ******* buyer will make use of this loop hole to get

"free product" from seller. Once they receive the products, they file a "non-delivery claim".

I had sold a BOSE Lifestyle system online, upon collection buyer tested ok and working. When he set it up at home

he claimed that only subwoofer got sound but the cube speakers are not working. He wanted a refund and compensation

on the delivery cost. I had to ding-dong with the manager at PayPal as the transferred fund was withheld. It wasn't a

good experience with Paypal as the outcome is damn dicey and it involved a few thousands bucks.

In a nutshell, avoid online transaction unless there is no alternative channel to obtain the merchandise.

Hey hey, sup bro. Doing good. How's the LCD? Still nice n clear?

Aye, the way PayPal protects buyers is excellent, if you are the buyer.

Usually most people have smooth transactions, like swoosh. My sis uses it to sell stuff all the time. Maybe out of 100times, will encounter one rogue buyer who after receiving the item, claims that it isn't as described and files a chargeback with PayPal.

I have to admit, it has benefited me before when I made a purchase on eBay. Item was described as good condition, but when I received it, it was all ground up, clearly the after effect of a lowside. Arranged a refund through the PayPal mediation service.

Anyhow, for large transactions, still might be better to not risk PayPal.
