Hi everyone,

I just came back from Penang. While I was there, I rented a motorcycle to get around. But there was a roadblock and I kena fine because I left my licence at home.

I went back to the rental shop hoping that they will pay, but they didn't want to. That was a stupid idea lol. They didn't want to give me back my deposit of 100RM unless I settled the fine. I tried to argue that they were the ones responsible cause they rented the motorcycle to me without the licence, but they twisted my words and said that I say that I left my licence in the hotel instead. What I said when I wanted to rent the motorcycle was that I TOTALLY didn't bring my licence at all. In the end, I told him that I will go JB and pay the fine. Only after I Whatsapp him the image of the receipt of the fine, then he will transfer me the 100RM.

Once I got back, I checked with a few of my Malaysian friends. They said that no need to pay one. Even they don't pay the fines.

So my request right now is, can someone send me a picture of the receipt for the summon so that I can send to the rental guy? I will censor out all personal details, or you could censor it out for me and send it to me.

I can be contacted at nine 0611112 or [email protected]. Thanks in advance

I don't understand how the rental company should pay you at all. You didn't bring the licence then you pay the fine la. How is it their problem? Anyway its only 100RM. Not even $50. Just don't pay. If you get caught just say you dunno you got outstanding fine.

Because they rented the bike to me knowing that I didn't bring licence.

I wouldn't have taken the bike if I knew that strictly must show licence. He say passport can. So I just show him passport lo

He agreed to send the money over via western union.

Not sure where. But it was like a bridge.

You need the passport or proof of identity so if something happens to the bike (ir used in theft or robbery case), the rental agency can show the police you were in possession. It does not exempt you from needing a driver's licence to operate the vehicle.

I cannot deny that I'm at fault. But let's put it this way. If a parent never train the child properly, and the child do wrong things. Both parties are at fault. The parent for not teaching properly and the child for not thinking with his own brains.

I'm don't think I'm entirely right.

But, why would they rent the bike to me even though I said I didn't bring licence?

They can rent the bike to whoever they want as long as they have a copy of your passport. You're the one ultimately responsible for the traffic offences that you commit when the bike is in your possession. Operating and renting the vehicle is completely SEPARATE in the eyes of the law.

Alright alright.

As I said earlier. I'm at fault. But shouldn't the other party be partly responsible too?

Eg. Last time I used to go LAN very often in school clothes which is not allowed. But the aunty/uncle always let us in. When kena raid, both parties kena by the police also leh. Our details were taken down by police and the LAN shop kena fine.

Anyways, I'm not trying to argue or anything. Just wanna clarify and try to understand this situation better so that I am more aware in future.

Dude, we all know the other party is partially responsible also, but we also know that they dun care about you. Things are handled totally different when we are off our shores. That's why the basic thing to know after crossing the borders is to know how to protect ourselves.

Anyway, personally I dun blame you anything but think you damn suay only la. On the positive note at least you got back unhurt other than a hole in your wallet. Do whatever you can to get the money back, but have to let it go if it's wasting too much of your time.

I agree with you, I dont understand how TS can find fault with the rental company. It was all his fault he kenna summoned. Rental company rent him the vehicle without asking for license simply because rental company is lenient to the customer and wants to allow customer to enjoy convenience. TS abuse the privilege and want to blame rental company for renting him a bike without checking his license first when he got summoned for road block.

And they did not twist your words that you left your license at the hotel, because you yourself already admitted that you left your license at the hotel/home. Either way it doesn't matter, ts you were suay u got roadblocked and summoned, ts you try to push your suayness to others becus you are an exploit, end of story.

TS no offense, correct me if i got you wrong, but if this is true, u are one f up guy who understands very little of how common ethics works. :S You are still thinking of ways to cheat through a honest business by sending them a fake receipt and actually thinks people will help you out in your exploit. What a joke.. how the hell did u even get ur 2b here?

Ethically saying, aunty/uncle not at fault.

Uncle/aunty just too kind to let you play, now they end up kenna also. If im the student I would be guilty that the lan shop was fined due to my lack of consideration, causing trouble to the uncle and aunties.. yes uncle and aunty is at fault for being too kind to an exploit like you so they kenna as well.. thats all i can see in this case.. your blaming failed.

As I mentioned. Just giving a scenario for me to understand better. I already admit that I am at fault, not trying to blame anybody :) Cheers
