Hello everyone,

after reading the recent spat online between an old but new member and and old member, I as a buyer and seller am writing hoping to know what do you think of our buyer and seller mentalities of getting or letting go of a bike.

I have sold many bikes thanks to sbf. met many characters. thankful to them but there will always be a number whom i met and make me sad and wish i dont sell my bike. most and most of the times, i dont make money but buyers will say oh, oh, scratch, oh , oh, seat very bad. and also many kind of excuses.

I am writing here, hoping to hear from you guys what are the reasons that buyers or sellers find on your bikes and thus causing them to offer a very much lower price. most of the times, we have no ideas who these characters are but they know who we are.

As a seller , I have so many times, a buyer with torch in hand will go down and check for oil leak, and when the surprise is there is no leak , will proceed to say, oh look, bubbles . sheesh, its hard selling bikes. no wonder bikes shop[ salesman are a different breed of people.

Compromise.... Sellers will always want the highest price, while buyers will go the other way.... if you sell to friends, you risk turning friends into enemies if the bike breaks down after the sale and he ask you to cover the cost of repairs.... Most probably I will keep my bikes forever until it turns to dust....

I also wish to just stop looking and ride that 1 or 2 incredible bikes until i cant ride anymore but yet to find one. . selling my bikes were an incredible affair. its just the hassle and frustration when buyers come with fantastic ways of negotiation. i am a direct seller. just sms me your price and will decide the offer.I a buyer really brings the price down, it makes the seller just so frustrated.

My topic is what are the reasons buyers give sellers or vice versa when negotiating for a price.

Thanks Robo for your input

If you want to save your time, can try following methods in your sales add voice out / filter what buyer you want to meet.

- Not for fussy buyer.

- Bike already ?? years old cant expect much on the cosmetic or engine ...

- Oultook condition ? / 10 and engine condition ? / 10

- Price if FIXED $??

- Price if nego for serious buyer only.

- No dealer please..

just my 2 cent..

the question is some buyers will still come down and want to see and then give you the surprise request. my post is to ask anyone, what is the strangest reason or negotiation reasons to down the price of your bike a buyer gives. example --- bro , your seat is tear lah. from 3k can go to $2k or not??

Newbie here, I have not sell any bike here but bought a 2nd hand ride in sbf. Usually buyer has a budget in the mind roughly, when he comes to see the bike, most probably quite keen but try to bargain more with seller, if seller thinks the offer too low, just ignore!

Must be happy seller happy buyer...

Bought my first bike from a forummer, then I decided 2nd bike get from shop better.

Reason - 3 months warranty. I get enough time to check and then go back to shop if anything wrong. Of course the shop must be reputable. You end up in one of the black shops and yuo are no better off buying from a con-artist seller.

Having said so, and not to prejudice sellers here, how many is honest enough to list the problems they have with the bike? If everyone is so selfless, then COE today for bike is only $1.

matthias - many sellers are honest to a point. but shops are mostly indifferent. i have bought also many from shop.eg : a few days after buying --- ah _____, i will say, bike die so many times why?? . this guy who actually was standing waiting for customer will then pretend to be busy cannot give answer.eg : ah ___ , i on the phone, can ask you something . his answer : busy , busy. using my handphone going to the shop immediately : not busy mah.

but you are right . only reputable shop> i know reputable shop can beccome unreputable .

There are always 1001 reasons the buyers will give to lower the price, it's just a matter of whether it is valid or not... to them it may be valid even though it is not the norm.... take for example when I sell my house a few years back... the buyer ask me whether my house got face any "West sun", i.e. afternoon sun shining through any rooms making the room hot.... I said no, completely don't have.... and he said having "west sun" is good, make the rooms warm and comfy.... ?????!!!!!.... Sigh.....

What Virago mentions is good.... put in your sale message "for serious buyers only, those looking for a cheap bargain please look eslewhere"....

We cannot choose the buyer's character when we sell our bikes, we can only decide whether we want to sell it to them or not.... if you don't want to go through this hassle, then choose your next bike carefully, so that you do not want to part with it for a long long time.... surely there must be an ideal bike for you somewhere out there?....

its strange, Virago is Yamaha model i would crave to keep until I or it go. used to have a 750 .loved it for its shaft draft and v-twin. sadly no much in the market. but the 1100 which was recently in the market was either 5 year coe extended or a bit problematic.

anyway back to my question of buyer or seller. i get the drift. just bear with many characters and temperament.can sell, sell if cannot , bear with selling very low price or keep.

i think i will end the converstaion as i feel many riders are not willing to share

Take care, bro.... don't get too worked up over this... all this will come to pass....

I would have keep my V45 Magna if not for my health problem then, V four engine, shaft drive, low seat height, extremely comfortable that I rode it all the way to Penang with no sore butt.... bear in mind that then the NSHW isn't build yet....

Either that or they hardly ever log in.....

It's simple really. You set a price range. And if the buyer doesn't meet it, just tell him straight.... NO.

If he says there's this or that problem with your bike and offers something too low for you, then tell him if he thinks there's a problem with the bike, then don't buy.

Conversely for buyers, you have your budget. You can bargain all you want. But if the bike is out of your budget, you can simply walk away.

What's so difficult? It's just business. Nothing personal.
