Hi there!

Wish to ask for some advise on the differences between a Fazer 1000 and a V-Strom 1000?

in terms of their maintenance costs, Fuel consumption, usual servicing costs, cost of tyres, etc..

and which is a better bike?

and roughly wats a 3rd party fire n theft insurance be like for a 27yr old?

thanks!

The maintenance cost, servicing cost and tyre cost for both bikes should be more or less the same, as with most Class2 bikes. Since they are all about the same, these factors should not affect your choice.

Fuel consumption should also not affect your choice when buying a class2 bike, otherwise you might want to consider a smaller bike. Anyhow, Fazer1000 (the carb model) gets you about 17km/l. Strom returns slightly lesser at 15-16km/l, but it's not much difference. For insurance, can't answer you 'cause I'm not 27 yr old. But I think both bikes' insurance are more or less the same.

These two bikes are rather different. One is an inline-4 meant to be a R1 bike with an upright posture. The other is a twin like a BMW GS big adventure trailer. Though due to its size and height, I think few riders here will really take it off road.

What's good for me may not be good for you.

the fazer has an inline 4 engine. it's powerband is in the higher revs which means you will get the meat out of the engine when you rev it hard. the v strom has a v-twin engine, it's power is in the low-mid rpm range and has better pickup. both are great for touring although the riding styles are different.

Give yourself a chance to try both.

Some will fall in love with a big Twin once they have a chance to live with it for a while.

I did. In line 4s are like cars, not much character if you ask me.

Just putting in my 2cents worth... one thing I notice about the FZ1, the only way ur gonna get the 'character' is if u ride it hard. If u manja it along you won't really feel wats it's capable of. Cos I'm not encouraging you to ride like a maniac but in my opinion that's the Fazer, shy at first but throttle up and u'd might be suprised...

G'luck with ur choice. Remember, ultimately ur the rider and u should choose the bike that best suits ur riding style n budget. :thumb: Ride safe!!
