Hi guys!

Juz asking why is Magnetic North preferred over True North when it comes to navigations and instrument displays?

cause compass shows mangetic north? :?

Haven't heard of a definite answer based on this. Maybe sunnyday has a point -- that the instruments are (electro-)magnetically operated and they naturally point to Magnetic North, just like how a compass/floating magnet would.

I have heard one more root reason from others in that the reason why pilots prefer Magnetic North readings instead of the geographically-defined True North readings is because it has been the standard since the world's very first flight. The world's major aircraft manufacturers have been manufacturing cockpit instruments that are already Magnetic North oriented. Pilots prefer Magnetic North in order to make them more compatible with systems and instruments that already depend on magnetic north calculations.

Correct me if anything isn't accurate here :)

Found some interesting sia's boeing 777 cockpit videos on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=lzd772

Cool :thumb:

It looks like it's an a** trying to multitask between keeping the speed and altitude correct, whilst (in layman terms) keeping the plane pointed in the right direction as suggested by the onboard radio-navigational systems.

The Boeing 777s have modern, informative and organized electronic equipment so the abovementioned stress the pilots have to face is not as bad as the old jumbo jets

I've seen planes transported via roads and/or via rivers barges in other countries but why in the world do they wanna transport a 737 across Singapore

Moreover, I think there's height clearance problems...the top fuselage is going to scrape the overhead pedestrian bridge

Ya there are, went to one early this year but it was not open to the public. Had a joy ride in a CN-235, got a little scared when I realised the plane was Indonesian made!

Cheers!
