Press Menu button twice to check the remaining memory (display at the bottom of screen).

If u'r refering to the base map of GPSr, it cannot be erased as it's hard coded into the hardware. As for user option map, upon uploading of new map(s) to the GPSr, it will eventually delete off the old map(s) n replaced it w/ new map(s) in GPSr.

Hope it helps, hunkiedave.

Upload Map into Garmin GPS

Download SendMap to your PC.

Unzip all the files into c:\map

Unzip the completed map file : 00008888.img c:\map

shell to MSDOS -

Winxp: Start, Run, CMD

Win98: Start, Run, COMMAND

CD \MAP

Connect the Garmin GPS to the COM1 or COM2 port

C:\MAP\>sendmap com1 00008888.img (or com2)

The software will send the map to the gps. To turn OFF the map, on the GPS use MENU /Mapsource info /Enter then check / uncheck the map.

 Halo, here's my input:

My model is Garmin legend C. Its supposed to be the cheapest of the color GPS range under Garmin brand.

http://www.garmin.com/products/etrexLegendc/

It can also be mounted on my bike mirror - see attached pic. Its got Auto-routing function; means I can select my destination, it will automatically calculate the shortest route to it. It also will prompt you before each turning, to guide you to the destination.

Comes with a 128mb microSD card free for the expansion slot. It is USB connectable and I think it works better my previous b/w legend which uses serial port. It is also easier to transfer maps directly into the microSD card using a external card reader. 128mb can hold detailed maps of Thailand, malaysia and Singapore only. Its insufficient for detailed maps of Europe, America etc. Need at least 1 GB card.

The battery life is almost double of my previous b/w legend surprisingly. Also the color makes it easier to see the roads & symbols easily.

I bought mine at Sim Lim Square's Perfect Watch pte ltd, after comparing prices at a few shops - including the ones at Sim Lim Tower basement.

I suggest before you buy GPS from the shop - ask for bundled discount together with the World Map CDrom.

If you like to go bike touring - then buy the GPS mounting clip for your bike also.

Lots of free detailed maps are available online - only if your GPS is a Garmin brand.

Hope this helps.

if yours is using external memory, then it should be Legend Cx.

Rig a cigarette lighter type power point on your dash, and with a cigarette adapter wth USB connection (available at SLS about $19). With the USB cable connected to your GPS, you can have backlit permanently ON which makes viewing very much better.

Ask around, FYI price from Perfect Watch ain't cheapest in SLS..

*beware - there r some PI models, make sure it's local agent warranty by NaviCom or O'Connor, not shop warranty.

Perfect watch is not a listed Garmin dealer

http://www.garmin.com/cgi-bin/dealers.pl?country=Singapore

I bought my Legend Cx with 64Mb micro SD card for $415+GST (cash).

Perfect Watch sells Legend Cx with 128Mb micro SD card for at least $100 more.
