"Petrol engines, i.e. "controlled ignition" engines, need to be supplied a mixture of very precise proportions of air and petrol. The device which, traditionally, has always carried out this task is the carburettor, the operation of which is entirely mechanic. The current alternative, which has become state-of-the-art in motorcycle engineering, is fuel supply by electronic ignition: petrol is sprayed into the intake air by injectors controlled by the output of an electronic control unit (ECU), which controls ignition and injection in an integrated manner. In other words, it decides WHEN and HOW MUCH fuel should be proportioned and WHEN it should be ignited. The working inputs for an ECU are basically the engine rotation speed - n and the amount of air intake - a (i.e. the throttle opening), adjusted to surrounding atmospheric conditions (air pressure and temperature). The main difference between these two systems lies in the increased versatility, accuracy and controllability of injection which, by perfectly adjusting fuel supply to the engine requirements, enables the best obtainable performance while cutting down on noxious exhaust gases and consumption. In short, it achieves full "awareness" in engine control. "

Can understand the difference now, dxruzty_?

r6 bros. thanks for ya reply. but i still have some doubts in mind. still have questions such as

1) is there any different between 01' n 02 model? (bodykit, engine, etc..)

2) so far what are the problems arise for these two models?

btw thanks to leo for answering some of the question. its good to hear that yer bike is in gd condition. btw anymore riders out there can assist to clear my doubts. kos this will be my first class2 bike n i dun wanna have a lot of troubles maintaining it. maybe lesser troubles. i heard 03 got some problems as told by bike shop. 04 n 05 absolutely out of budget. kos i m now compairing with the f4i FT plate fuel injection.. dunno where to choose but my heart is still with r6 but still researching some reviews on f4i. arrghh.. help.. i will be much appreciate if u could answer my doubts thanks..

I not super sure about 01/02, no major changes in engine or bodywork. 01/02 has some gearbox issue, 2nd gear engagement not good as the transmission wears out. This is a big issue in the states, costly repairs. Yet, I haven't heard of complaints from local riders, maybe different batch? Coils, batteries and rectifiers tend to be reaching their lifespan in older models. In general, the carb models offer a very smooth engine, the only worries are wear + tear and previous owners' abuse.

I ride the 03, everything is fine, no problems that can't be fixed by a competent mechanic at little to no cost. The only things that needed to be replaced so far is chain/sprokets and clutch cable and tyres, all wear and tear items. As long as the bike is well taken care of, you can expect it to be pretty problem free. Best if it is bought from 1st owner, they tend to take care of their bikes better.
