Just to share my own experience. If you cant start at the 1st attempt, you MUST open throttle and rev the engine at 2nd attempt. (This will normally happen during rainy days)

If you crank the engine again without opening the throttle, there is a risk that the engine will get flooded and you will face a hard time to start the bike.

A very bad habit bought over from Class 2B. Please drop this bad habit. Any bike if given tender and loving care will start perfectly hehehe. It should start as nature intends to. Not by force.

If you open throttle in a carb bike, won't that cause the engine to be flooded? Ya I guess yours is a GSR Carb Limited Special Edition, or you have not gotten a GSR yet. Anyway its alright if you have not, we won't humiliate you or something. Its a learning experience.

There is the fast idiling in FI bikes to handle such cold start. Correct me if I am in the wrong.

You may wanna visit a more trusted workshop on this. There got racewerks. If you are in the Ubi area, can visit Planet or Motoworld or Looi's. AND DO NOT LEAVE THE BIKE AND TRUST THE WORKSHOP. See what they are doing. Dun wan them to do farnie things. Take leave and stick to the bike like glue. That's what I would do. heheheh

Its like your wife giving birth or sick, will take leave to take care of them.

Its our bike sercurity system ah bro. Could be a faulty reciever or chip in the key. Try not to hang any other key around the bike key when in ignition. Remove the black ignition panel and check the connection. Could be a lose connection.

Hey pal, ask the HKL mech to check ur starter motor. It could be the contact point of the starter motor got corroded...

FYI, the starter motor is located on the right side just below ur fuel tank. It looked like a "small can".

Just my hunchback feeling ...

Hope that your bike is ok for this friday's trip to Kulai.

Cheers.

By invite only lei bro  need to support my friend so that she wins the top 10 Girl next door competition. Den monday flying off to california for 2weeks. Never left my bike for that long since I had my SP and back den in camp my friends start for me. How ah, got anything i need to do for that lengthy storage anyone know?

wow, u support ur fren till California? girl friend issit? share her photo here mah.. wanna see see.. since she's FHM girl next door.. must be very pretty..

or u tell me which issue, i go buy.. support support.. :)

A-HA!!!this plug break into two...Almost every workshop can tell u which brand of iridium plugs will do tat...OWS...some even had the electrode broke and drop into the cylinder, and it found itdelf wedged between the piston ring and the cylinder wall...heard from Ah Chong tis had happened to a CBR400...had to blardy overhaul the whole engine and bore the cylinders...all becos of a very small piece of metal...

Two weeks not that long lah brader..juz securely cover ur bike...and ask someone to warm-up the bike (approx 10mins) once a week can oready..unless ur keeping it for a period of 6mths, then need to change EO and coolant(if im not wrong)....

fuxk.. OWS spark plug so lousy?? lucky i was planning to get NGK for my spark plug for next maintenance.. (got to stick to good brand)

think if 6 month needs to drain petrol and engine oil then put anti-rust oil something like that... read it before before I went for long holidays last year..

Let me extract a portion of the site that u had given.

"Engine flooding was a common problem with carbureted cars, but newer fuel-injected engines are immune to the problem"

wat is that??? i dunno wat is the prob if yes then i dun hav to go for check up d... haiz... anyway wish good luck guys... if can fix at cheap price then i will stick to this bike.. or else it will be adios baby!

the only BIKE SHOP you can LEAVE IT THERE WITHOUT YOUR PRESENT is Planet Motor (8 fang in chinese) 3007 Ubi Rd 1

#01-430 Singapore 408701

Contact : 67474740

I went there for my first overhaul of my previous bike, then i stand there whole day.. then ah chong told me, u "bang sim lah", won't do anything funny.. else "mia xia chao" bad reputation..

if u still not "fang xing", remind ah chong to take care the bike, and u can get his phone no, and call him back to check again.. He is trustworthy, and so far his staff all are "honest" but some are new birds..

I like to go there for "repair" because AH Chong seems to know all kind of bikes.. hmm.. (at the same time, u can visit his little museum of crashed litre bikes..

He got a GSR lah Razi. FYI xcel. If you ram the trottle when u start the bike, it will cause what they mention just now, a hugh surge of current. that may fry ur circuit

Just to share my own experience. If you cant start at the 1st attempt, you MUST open throttle and rev the engine at 2nd attempt. (This will normally happen during rainy days)

If you crank the engine again without opening the throttle, there is a risk that the engine will get flooded and you will face a hard time to start the bike.

what you explained is purely for carburettor-ed bikes. why do people do that? put it simply, they want to maintain a higher initial rpm aka fast idle. two ways to do that, you either turn on the choke, or you turn the throttle slightly. just slight enough to not let the engine die.

what people normally do is, they just give a big twist when they start the bike, causing the bike to rev very high for a moment. which is not right. during cold starts, all your lubricating fluids are at the bottom of the bike, ie the oil sump. by revving the bike when its cold, you are causing accelerated wear as there is little lubrication to the pistons. moral of the story is, use the choke. its there for a reason. or just maintain the throttle slightly, if your choke is not functioning.

now back to the story. for fuel-injected bikes, eg GSR. there is something called fast-idle. depending on the temperature, the ECU will fast idle the bike during a given time. make use of the given technology. all you need to do is to get the bike started and the bike itself will take care of the rest. there is no need to rev the bike or maintain the throttle. if you have to do that, it means your idling is too low. go adjust that.

if it cannot start on the first attempt, try again. press and hold the starter till it starts, but no longer than 5 secs. wait 10 secs in between each attempt or you're gonna end up with a flat battery. if it still doesnt starts, your fuel pump is either f*cked, or your ignition coil has gone kaput. you only need fuel and a spark to start your engine. that's all.

just like what Razi has said, give your bike the TLC it deserves and you will reap the rewards. thank god i've got no problems with my bike at all. starts without fail with just one push of the button every morning.

and yes, we are bunch of guys who are all learning. no harm in asking noob questions, just no dumb and pointless questions. don't ask how much is a brand new GSR now. go call the shops and ask. get your answer direct from the source.

and don't ask dumb questions like, why the GSR is hotter and more noisy than your YBR125. common sense will give you the answer.
