Hi, i have one question abt the spark plug.

I know the stock is NGK CR8EK. Can NGK CR9EIX(10mm) be used on GSR400? how is its performance comparing with the stock one?

Anyone knows abt it?

hi ppl,

I've been riding my gsr400 for almost a year and it has about 67000km on the clock now. I'm back to riding after 10yrs and this is my first 'proper' bike.Though working on my class2 at the moment, i'd still like to keep this bike as long as i can.

Looking through the forum, other than the standard EO,filter, plug change there seem to be many varying periods when you guys do certain maintenance.Eg,timing chain, valve clearance, fork servicing etc. As of now, i've not done anything else other than the standard servicing every 5000km,change brake pads, coolant and both tyres due wear n tear. In comparison after riding the new cbf600 in SSDC for my class2, i realise my gsr has a very stiff gear change and rough brakes.

My question is, what is the normal things to look into for a bike of this mileage. Eg,for a car,i know thats the 5k/10k servicing,20k transmission fluid,60k timing belt+water pump etc.. that sorta thing. So far what i've gathered from the forum are things like timing chain, valve clearance, fork servicing, clutch plate replacement, brake pump replacement but there isn't much mileage markers to use as a guide. Even the manual just says 'I' - inspect on most things.

Hope to get some ideas to take care of my baby.. cheers ;)

This is stated in the Service Manual. For the GSR 400/600, the intervals are very similar. Periodic maintenance as stated by the manual.

However, it is up to you to take care of this baby.

Things like Valve clearance can be done after 50k, no issues. Throttle body synchronization can be done when idling is irregular. Timing chain when there is some irregularities with your engine.

When to change chain and sprocket varies greatly as it'll depends on whether do you take care of your chain by cleaning and oiling as necessary.

Air filter will depend on whether did you change to an aftermarket option . Aftermarket air filters usually needs to be cleaned instead of replacing so you'll need to get the cleaning kits suitable for your air filter and follow the instructions given by the manufacture.

Spark plugs can last beyond 10k but better change it within 1 year or 10k whichever comes 1st. Though, this length of time can be extended through the use of Iridium spark plugs as they are hardier but sometimes, you might need to clean it.

Bleeding of brake hoses will depend on the "gripe-py-ness" of your brake levers. When they are spongy then it is probably time to bleed your brakes.

When your forks seal breaks or the damping is lacking, probably you need replace your fork oil and seals.

Change your bulbs when it blows.

Uhh, well, that's about it.

I thought 600cc version can get about 18-20km/l? The 400cc version the best I clock so far is 24km/l. Average on the 400cc is about 22km/l.....My wrist not heavy...always workout...thats y.

I tried to ride very relax, change gear at rpm 4 or 5 max, still manage to get 21 only :(

Maybe becoz I mod mine to have better FC at lower gears hahaha.

My GSr 400 is also at rpm 6 when cruising at 100km/hr :/

Wit the current ride now, 100km/h is at 4k rpm on gear 6.......No kick....So sometimes goto 114km/h (around there) at 5k rpm on gear 6....hahahah.....Petrol no change....still getting 21km/l to 22km/l.

Bro, what is ur configuration for good fc? Sprocket confi?

You need an Air-Fuel Controller to do that. You can also try FP60....It helps also for my case. Stock size for Sprockets should be OK, although increasing the front sprocket up 1 teeth might correct the speedo error.
