my first week with GSR400 ended today, i have clocked 254 km...

during this first week (and the next few) i find it very challenging to keep rpm below 5k and speed below 80... o_O

i also noticed that when riding bigger bike others tend to expect you to run faster; so many vehicle tailed so near me, especially skoda taxi driver...:( i dun have this feeling with my humble bajaj... u guys got similar feeling?

i oso wore fullface helmet, which though comfortable and stylo, it has a wide blind spot compared to normal helmet.. got to turn my head more to check blind spot... anybody installing additional wide angle mirror to expend the angle of rear view?

talking about fuel consumption, in the end i think may be it is worth while to pump octane 98 petrol rather than 95... though more expensive, the milage and performance gain is better than 95 and in the end if we divide milage to $, it may be worth it... any bro wanne comment?

Hahah its normal. Anyway you are still warming up your bike. Do try to stick the the furthest lane to the left for your safety. I've been cut by RSK and kups so many times but muz tell myself thatbe patient, once its over they will get it hahaha. Juz remember to be defensive while on the road.

If this is your first time wearning full face, well you will get used to it.

Hey bro, glad u still alive and kicking. Anyway u mite wanna take a look at your suspensions. Get the settings right for yourself. Improper settings might cause your wheels to bounce or even give u that the bike is low siding and thats when unexperienced riders panic and jam the brakes. U might wanna consider going slow in and fast out instead considering the weight of GSR's. U can't play it like those small lightweight kub kias or 150cc bikes. Its pretty evident on tracks even. Small bikes can take the sharp corners faster. I've seen a PGM beat the heck of a GSXR and a CBR.

I would like to share what happened when i did not handle my bike properly while i was kup-ping corner...

i was going to back home from work on one fine morning and was heading to CTE near the old sub court at chinatown there... ended up skidded my bike and my left side of my bike was a goner... lucky i have sliders on my bike and then i notice there was small stones on the road leading to CTE...and looking at my bike now... no motivation....

have to replace my rear cowling, my exhaust cover was dangling... clutch was damage.. gear paddle was torn into 2.... rear rims have to be wielded and put in some weights to balance the back part...

total damage... $1012.00... damm heart pain look at her now...

sigh... :(

a lesson learnt and a big hole burn in the pocket...

k, some general tips w.r.t. safe cornering, all from things i've read up over time.

set up static sag

this means tuning the suspension to the typical load on the bike; very practicable

on the GSR because of the fully adjustable shock and fork.

know the corner

attacking something unfamiliar would be just stupid, if not suicidal. also, watch

out for debris like sand, even bits that have dropped of cars or remnants of an

accident.

slow in, fast out.

'nuff said.

posture

proper lean technique will make the bike all the more controllable and

predictable. a way to test is to wiggle your arms while in a corner, they

shouldn't be stiff.

also, the position of your butt must be be comfortable. lift your ass and adjust

if you're not.

if moving your body while cornering sounds crazy to you, it's not. get used to

it by trying it out on corners that you know are safe and appropriate for your

ability.

brake control

generally, it's not advisable to use front brakes in a corner as this shortens

the wheelbase and other effects that make you prone to highsiding.

rear brakes are better, though too much will make them lock and then you'll

get a lowsider instead.

caveat: these are advice that have been distilled from professional sources. i take no

personal claim nor credit for them. also, tips are to be tried at own risk. please be

responsible and ensure that your bike is in perfect running condition, i.e.: tires with

lots of rubber & tread, working and effective brakes; of course, protective riding attire

is a must.

mods done:

powerplant device, fuel injector venturis,

underseat cylindrical air filter, bassy stock cans,

super-sensitive in-built gyroscope, inertia-based accelerometer,

streamlined panniers (zero drag),

taped up wires, exposed grounding wires,

TBC mounted, custom tire pressures.

litre bikes watch out! :gun:

glad to hear that u r ok. get used to the bike 1st, then slowly try corner lower. dun go beyond ur comfort zone. n of cos, take note of the condition of the road.

can anyone advice on this:

our GSR uses 3.2 litres of EO, but someone told me that 3 litres is enough. is this true?

also, that someone also said that once you open bottle of EO and there's leftover, you can't keep it for the next oil change. is this true?

3 litres is enough without oil filter change. with oil filter, use 3.2 will do. thats wat i'm doing now. the opened EO, try not to keep it more than 4 mths.

I can see nothing wrong using 3 litres as long as it is in between the high and low mark. Topping too much or too little is bad for the engine.

As for leftovers, what is wrong? I dun think EO can expire that fast. I doubt so. Be sure to keep the leftover EO in a cool environment away from heat and sunlight. It's not like you will be keeping the EO for years before the next oil change.

yes. between high n low will b good. too much oil will create stress on parts like con rod, crankshaft when at high speed. too little mean not enough lubrication.

regarding the cornering, i was not travelling at a very fast speed... was travelling at 50 - 60 km/h.. i think i was not travelling at a fast speed... but i tot wrong...

now, i am think i am the only GSR rider with red tank and silver cowling... tried to get a red one from universal motors but unable to get the colour as they do not have it... tried to find but not successful so have to settle for the silver one eventually...

nope. khuboy oso red tank silver tailboard. he dun frequent here.

Hi guys wanna share something with you guys.

My average speed is 100km/h. When refueling I get 13 liters for 280km. This is after I put in Broquet. Anyway there is significant mileage improvement, but sadden that it can't go higher than that. Unless I travel at an average speed of 80km which I was able to get 300+km for 13 liters.

As for hitting reserve, you need not worry, once the blinking starts, you have about 40km to play with. In Singapore, petrol stations are plenty so can topup anywhere. To be on the safe side, treat as though you have 20km to go once the 2nd light starts blinking.

Anyway I am always in the project of trying to improve my mileage and try not to degrade the performance of the bike.

Another question, anyone try to run their GSR until empty? Any implication? Coz I read somewhere they can if EFI do not try to empty the petrol tank.

the FC depends alot on the type of the place u r riding. like highway riding or city riding. city riding tends to have a higher FC than highway riding. due to all the moving off n stopping. the type of EO used oso affect the fc. thinner oil tends to have a better fc compared to thicker oil esp when u r at high speed.

for me, i can get 21km/l most of the time riding most of my journey at expressways at a speed of 100 - 110. condition of bike, stock less piperX air filter.

once u r done with the running in, its payback time. :D fullface helmet? u'll get used to it in no time.

252km is very good figure considering your speed...:thumb: :thumb:

can advise what petrol grade you use? wat average rpm you maintain throughout your rides?

btw, is there any mod on your bike like brouquet, grounding wire, etc....

pls share le...:) :)

a lot of ppl advised against 92 as the engine will be rough and start knocking after prolong usage, esp if you are travelling high speed or rev a lot... the specs in the booklet mentioned minimum grade 95... may not be advisable to use 92...

for high compression engine, its more advisable to use premium fuel like 95 or 98. they give a smoother ride. using 92 will cause pre-detonation n pre-knocking on the engine hence, noiser engine. engineers believed that too much knocking on the engine is no good for the bike though. explaination abit short n blur. i know wat the theory is about but abit hard to explain.

anyway, gear 1 to 5, gear change not above 5k rpm, gear 6 below 7k rpm, ur fc shd get ard 20 - 21km/l. using caltex techron gold.

My manual states that min fuel requirement is 91 RON so for me ever since the skyrocketing prices of fuel, I've been using 92 and sometimes with added Maxima FP60 with no problems. And yes city riding definitely has higher FC than highway riding.my buddy rides all the way to Jurong Island from ECP every day and has better mileage than me. No mod done on the bike as far as internal system goes. bone stock she is
