Hi ackl, actually the wiring mess is left behind by mechanics who cut or took off the original cabling ties while servicing the scoot. U can always tidy them up by bunching them up again with cable zip-ties or twisties, available from PC or DIY shops. :cheeky:

Of cos if a certain scoot shop had been known to tackle certain classic Vespa models successfully, it would make good sense to approach them again. But by no means r u limited to those few shops.

The good thing abt classic Vespa is that most likely a proper service manual, by Haynes etc would hv already been written up abt ur model of scoot. U can do a check with Kinokuniya Bookstore on titles available. :thumb:

mine used to be in a mess too until cannot put rain coat inside the side box. so i take out the IU and the battery. so now little wire left.. plus a bit more space.. :)

actually u can do new wiring but it takes time. the best time is when u're planning to repaint your vespa. so can go one-shot, more easy for them coz to do wiring, the horn covers, chassis, etc need to be open.

my brake light and head light not working,..

tink some old vespa dun hev brake light. i dun have mine too. head light depends on your engine rpm as they use some sort of dynamo. used to have blinking head light or no head light at all if never ride for 2 weeks +. but after riding for arnd 10mins, the head light will finally appear.

neway, wat type of vespa u riding?

there are many vespa shops arnd. but for wiring, i tink u might wanna try ah joo's. coz his brother does the wiring of vespas there.

there is also a mly vespa shop behind jln bsr stadium. u might want to check it out.

hum..

seem like everyday also got questions..

can i check with your .

can vespa use engine bake..

cos when i try to do that..there is is loud metal

scratch sound from the gear..

thank for any infomation..

:cheer:

hmm. i only use them when raining cos nvr dare to brake hard on wet tarmac again. i skidded twice and flung out after jamming my rear brake. so engine brake pretty works well for me during wet surface but of coz must ride slow. on top of that rarely uses them. only use my rear brake often.

i tried on dry tarmac. but dont like the noise produce. very e pain in the ears, so i refrain from using it unless i'm in gear 2 like dat.

Don't use engine brake often.

Will spoil the engine in the long run.

And if you are riding at a higher speed, there's a chance tht you may be flung from the bike if the engine brake is too hard.

I just got a 1977 Vespa Sprint and the insurance for 3P was just under 170. It cost me quite a lot to restore (better get the engine checked out if you want to buy a classic vespa, restoration is a huge hidden startup cost) It's currently at Tong Aik at Golden Wall, I should be getting it this weekend.

But I hear that the running cost is pretty low and the cost of 2T is marginal. Anyway the engine seems hardy enough since the bike's older than me and still up and running

I'm 26 this year but I've been riding for under 1 year. the ins co is Mitsui.

I think only Mitsui and NTUC doing ins for old bikes. but NTUC quote is at least double of Mitsui's

most bike shops will do the ins for you but will charge you a nominal service charge of like $20. you can actually go to an ins agent and they do it for you on the spot without service charge, i.e. just pay the premiums.
