does the PX150 & 200 share the same clutch?

Actually both have the same design. but not exactly the same. 150 has 5 spring and 4 plates. 200 has 7 spring and 3 clutch place. diameter wise 200 is slightly bigger. Its not a straight swap. dont be mistaken. some slight modification has to be done on the engine case where the clutch is, IF u want to use a 200 or cosa clutch on ur 150. The number of teeth on ur clutch depends on the ur main drive (christmas tree). Different combinations give u different performance. there is a few combination. one for pick up one for long distance. i im not wrong one of the combi is 23/64 and the other one i forget.

maz >is it possible to properly fit a sprint/super's mudguard on a px's fork,the non-3-legged one?

morning, remember i told you it'll cost you about $200 for 3 items? These are brand new.

(1) Left side cowl (w/lock & keys for the compartment)

(2) Right side cowl

(3) front fender with modification to suit the PX fork system.

Right then Maz... learn something new every day eh :) To be honest I don't know much about 150 engines.... I still think that the new cosa ones are the same (save for the number of teeth...) Anyone can confirm?

Ummm finding a px200disc isn't difficult... you just need to be patient and look in more than one place (the classified section of the newspaper often has hidden gems inside)...

Do you want a 150cc or a 200cc? 150's tend to vibrate less and have better fuel economy... 200's are more powerful, better at pillioning and are more stable at speed (as they are heavier)...

A restored PX150... depends on what's been "restored".... You need to ask questions about the engine... when it was last rebuilt, what was changed etc... Many, if not most "restored" scoots look great on the outside... but there's no way to check the integrity of the innards without doing an engine rebuild... These engines should be re-built every 40-80,000 kms to change parts that are designed to wear out... if this isn't done, the engine's integrity and reliability will suffer.

Perhaps buying one already restored is like buying a Dell PC... sure it looks good, but can you be sure of all the components...

You can DIY restoration at another shop (eg TA or Hendra) and spend about 2k (if you want it to look like a sprint) or 1k if you want it to look as good as it did when it left the factory... This is ontop of the price of the scoot (1-1.5k) and should include a full engine rebuild and a full dissassembly after which the components are painted by an autoshop (we can help) and baked, then reassembled by the scooter mechanic... 1K may sound like alot... but you can be 100% confident in your scoot.

Just my opinion here... option 1 may indeed be the better option if you don't have the time/patience to wait for a scoot to be restored (provided the scoot in question at AJ has already been restored)....

If it were me, I'd go with option 2... but that's just my (admittedly biased) opinion :)

more newbie questions:

is the suspension for vespa generally bad or is it just me? - when i ran through uneven ground or even those hump, there's a 'proom blroom' sound, felt kinda unsteady and not smooth at all. is this normal or i need to change my suspension? how and when do i know it's time to change suspension?

How do i know when it's time to 'clean' my exhaust?

How often to lubricate the clutch cables and how to do it? what brand of lubrication to use?

thanks :)

the lubrication can just be bought from TA,just ask for grease.

i usually lubricate the clutch cable once, upon installation.

-= Unsure of what to get=-
