hmm.. then i suggest u don't get too excited about getting ur ride... read more on the models that are available in Singapore and the problems that you may encounter. A lot of people get very excited after getting their licence and just jump on any offer that comes along. might regret later.

Look thru other riders' experience to get a good gauge of what you really want. Familiarise urself with the mechanics and technicalities of the Vespa before you commit. Seriously, no rush.

U may end up paying more than you should for it

Hello there Alsacehendon...

So many questions!

Many of these can be answered by doing research.

Read http://www.vespamaintenance.com and http://www.scooterhelp.com

Also start following http://www.scooterbbs.com

In brief I can help answer the following....

1) How do I know mine's a stock engine? Mine is a Vespa Exclusive II 150cc. I always pump 98 cos I was recommended by Ah joo to do Shell/Caltex and 98.

Well, it might be hard for you to see what is different... ask a mechanic. You only need 98 octane if you have an alloy block (malossi/polini(iron)/pinasco brand cylinder)

If it is stock, you're wasting your money on petrol, and running hotter due to the increased effort required to ignite the high octane fuel....

3) What's dino oil?

Dino oil = Natural Oil (Dinosaur Oil).... Just a jokey name.... You should be running fully sythetic... it will do wonders as far as preveting a seizure (piston jam) in your engine as the higher quality means it can withstand much higher temps than normal or semi-synth 2T oil.... In short, it will give you a safety barrier... It is also better for your engine (burns cleaner - so less build up of carbon) and is better for the environment (but not much better.... 2Strokes are terrbile polluters...)

Semi-synth and Fully synth sometimes don't like mixing (if you pre-mix... i.e. put the oil straight into the fuel tank... this is less of a problem...) If you use the autolube (i.e. you put oil into the oil hole) then wait until you see the white bubble appear in the sight glass (the piece of plastic that pops out of your frame under the fuel lever) and then put the new oil in...

6) How do I check my jetting? What's that? What does it mean when I'm running too lean and how much does changing to a bigger main jet cost? Where is the main jet located?

Carburration is a wicked devil evil science which has driven many insane.... but you should know about it anyway.... http://www.vespamaintenance.com has a good run through....

put simply

Lean = Hot = piston jam

Rich = poor performance, high fuel consumption & lots of carbon build up....

Rich is better than Lean.

Aim to be slightly rich....

Hope this helps you...

New problem again.

My engine will die the moment I slow to a halt unless I clutch in and rev it constantly.

Just now on the expressway, feeling a bit stupid and experimental, I pulled the clutch in on gear 4 and let it go. I jerked forward and I hope that didn't cause anything? My throttle was probably on throughout the whole thing.

Yeah, stupid I know, but I know better now.

Posted

i think it might be your idling is too low, try to turn it up...

don't clutch in at high speeds, 'cause if you were to accidently let go of the clutch suddenly, or worse, down gear, the amount of engine brake will be very strong, you may be thrown forward or lose control of vehicle.

=)

ride safe everyone~

Might be ur rear brake pedal. check ur rear brake. Might be loose and affecting ur halting.

How do I check my idling? there's a round button that I can pull that's below the open/reserve tank switch, but it seems loose. do i pull it out or in? is that the idling?

how would my rear brake pedal cause my engine to die, un-sith?

wanna gather some inputs from u guys. This is regarding the suspension system of the vespa.

Other then bitubo, wat other aftermarket adjustable rear suspension that is available and doesnt cost as much as bitubo.

Any of u know for the classic fork (three legged) wat other suspension can be use. those that are available now are a tad too soft and the fork tend to dive under hard braking or uneven surface. stability during cornering is also suspectable. Anyone has done the front suspension using any shock meant for other bikes? the front suspension is giving me a headache. always go soft in a very short period.

i have been searching high and low for this. but so far nothing has come up. next best rear shock i know of is sebac. any comment on it..
