anyway, guys out there i got a question need to ask u all.

currently i am using fully-sync 2T(elf). but then like quite expensive leh. any other 2T u all will recommend?? let just say i wan semi-syn one, which brand is good? i heard esso pace not bad. dunno how true is it.

using semi synth increases the chances of engine seizure (piston jam) if your carb is incorrectly set up.... Fully Synth is good insurance... By the cheapest petrol you can, but the most expensive oil :-)

Hey guys, Just wanna noe if the old vespa(i mean the non auto ones) has a 2t pump installed or u haf to premix. Cos i checked my Excel under seat and saw only 2 tank covers. One is clearly for petrol and the other one is for engine oil or 2t? Thanks guys and sorry for the trouble.. I am really a vespa newbie. Better yet a motorcycle newbie. LOL!!

Cool... you've got autolube.... that second hole is for 2T oil... no need to premix....

The Autolube is great.... and if taken care of is also very reliable....

Get it checked out for wear and tear if you're concerned....

most expensive oil but cheapest petrol.... LOL

currenty trying to finish up my bottles of mineral-based 2T b4 switching over to half/full syn. Haven met any incidents of seizures or wat (CHOY!!!) and i'm using mineral-based 2T (those $4 per bottle one).

Still, buying a better grade 2T buys u at least that psychological assurance! :)

I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to death, your right to say it.

haha, thats becos ur scoot is running on duno how many % of 2t leh, u are contributing to the haze situation..

luckily the haze situation is much better, now that the rain has come. But i rather have haze than rain every now and then. Need to wear raincoat and brave the rain. Sux

Engine oil = transmission oil.... put in engine :-) That oil only needs to be changed every 3000km or so...

hw_ng_>> check the bottle..usually it's as below.

no indication of word synthetic - Mineral based

synthetic blend, synthetic based - usually semi synthetic

fully synthetic - not much explaination needed eh? :p

but price's a big giveaway...mineral based are usually dirt cheap. eg zoomlube @ ah boy. $2 per bottle. btw..i used that on skipper and vespa..no issue. even white smoke's @ minimum.

Let's just be clear here....

Engine oil.... = the oil that you change every once in a while... Get a shope like Tong Aik to do it for you... (no need to dispose of used oil and only costs $5 or $6 bucks....) As long as you change this oil regularly (like every 3-5000 kms [imho]) you won't have issues....

2T oil... or the oil that you mix with your petrol is a little more important

Fully Synth (like castrol R2 or Esso Fully Synthetic) will cost you around $20 a bottle (1 litre).... the others, either mineral, or synthetic blend (mineral + synthentic) are around $10 a litre....

I'll say this... if you're confident that your carb is set-up properly and you don't often thrash your scoot.... eg crusing on the expressway at 100kmh plus for extended periods..... you might get away with a cheaper 2t oil.... If not.... buying a better 2T oil will help stop a seizure (piston jam) from occuring....

The funny this is that sooooo many people will typically spend as little as possible on 2T oil and as much as possible on petrol..... which means...

1)- Bad 2T (low temp threshold... more prone to seizure...)

2)- High Octane 98 fuel (when not needed on a regular scoot) = higher temp needed to combust fuel (lower octane like 92 burns at a lower temp, hence cooler engine)

= recipe for trouble.... :help:

just want to comment on the price of castrol R2, it is selling at $13 at LAB. that is the msian bottling.

if you wan the british one, it is selling at $14. Difference is in the bottling and the colour of the 2T.

UK > Red

Msia > Yellow (or u can call that gold)

i'm very sure there's no difference in performance. Colour difference is for marketing purposes. For those who understand marketing, its one of the very commonly used techniques.

If you get it at other places, they are charging like $17-25. Don't ask me why. Other shops like to say that LAB oil don't know get from where, but IMO, it looks/perform exactly the same as the $17-25 ones.

Hey guys, yesterday tried to start my vespa but it cant so i tried changing the spark plug and to my amzement it purred like a cat! So i tested it a few rounds and found out tt both the bakes isnt effective. and its very tough to change the gears cos its hard to pull the cluth in. and also i think there is something wrong with the wiring cos when i am at gear 2 the neutral light is still on and same goes to every gear.

But wht i want to ask here is, How much roughly to repair the braking problem and the clutch problem? or can i diy? And also how much for the wiring? Any recommendations on where to doit? thanks!

glad you managed to rectify the problem yourself. For 2strokers, it is very common for the plug to foul, so its good to have a spare one with you. Usually you can tell its a foul plug when there's no ignition when you kick start it. ie. no spark>no engine started.

but after you change the plug and you kick, there's still no signs of it starting, and you hear just the turning flywheel sound. It is most likely an electrical problem. ie. something wrong with your wiring somewhere.

finally, if there's some ignition sound (sparks and combust for a while but unable to start the engine to idle), it is most likely an mechanical/oil problem. Most simple thing is... low fuel (or the fuel have not reached the carb). There could be more complicated problems though.

i'm just sharing what i think i know..haha correct me if i am wrong
